The way most people use "real man" is to use it to mean "ideal man"... which is kind of puzzling for anyone that likes to be consistent with their ontological standpoint.

"Real manhood" as a social status is merely a tool used to control males and manipulate them.

I can appreciate the sentiment, but I don't think this is the case. Scarlet Johansson could identify as a man all day long and deep down, I just wouldn't believe her. Granted, people attach all sorts of strange arbitrary criteria to maleness, but that doesn't mean maleness is simply a consequence of how one identifies one's self. I suspect it's as much a function of how people see and treat you as it is a function of what you want to be seen as.

No, we can't agree. Being a man is a biological fact not a question of someone's self-identification. For example, if a man is in a coma and lacks the ability to identify his gender, then it doesn't follow that he is not a real man.
