I never found this generational thinking to be so productive. It strips you of the individuality you have. Also 20 years is not a generation, most people in the west get their kids in their 30s.

It seems to me it has been a tendency in media to make generations hate each other. Just like feminism, more of the divide and conquer mindset.

Group think is bad.

Heh... I'm right smack in the middle of Gen X (I'm 52 years old) and NONE of the Gen Xers I know fit into any of these descriptions.

Besides the temporal references, the attitudes I see here seem to apply more to Millennials (the kids of Gen X) than to Gen X.

I have had VERY few issues with Gen X women relative to Millennial women and frankly, they're (Gen X) the only ones I see saying things like "These women calling themselves feminists today are crazy bitches."

Maybe it's just all relative and I only hang around with cool Gen X people, but damn...

Most of us in Gen X are laughing at ourselves and how foolish we were to think our parents were so full of shit while we watch things turn out pretty much the way our parents told us they would.

Gen X is where feminism became mainstream basically... I'm millennial and I think women from my generation are far worse in that aspect. And from what I see nowadays, Gen Z girls will be worse yet.

They're jaded.... just like most every genx, including myself. Our world has been shit our entire lives, with a brief respite in the late 90s-early 2k. We watched our grandparents drink themselves silly trying to forget WW2, our governments hung the constant threat of nuclear annihilation over our heads, our parents spent our inheritance on worthless crap to forget Vietnam then lost their houses in some burst bubble or another, we went to a useless "war", then we sent our kids to another useless war in the same place. What the fuck.... I'm going to go drink the rest of the fucking day.

I beg to differ.

Gen X seem to be a little more rational than the generations either side. The baby boomers were the ones who started the divorce/burn the bra/"I am woman hear me roar" rot. If you look at the anger/envy/paranoia/phobia/hate it is really the "I don't need a man" Gen Y/millennial crowd who are really the first generation who have grown up where grandma and grandpa were divorced, mum and dad were divorced and who grew up with a bitter a twisted mother.

Peak angry women seem to be in their 30's. They have gone through school getting told by (female) teachers that "girls can have it all" "girls can do anything" etc , then they head to Uni, get a white collar job in a female dominated area (predominantly government too) and treat men poorly in their 20's calling them Low Value Men (refer female dating strategy) looking for that elusive single man over 6', earning $150K/yr, has his own home and drives a nice car. Suddenly, they hit the wall and their biological clock is ticking its last tick, she calls up Steve from high school who she doxed when he asked her to prom "I've always loved you Steve, but never brave enough to say it. Hey, want to wank off and be a dad?" By the time they are 38, they realise that their life is pointless and become bitter and twisted. "Hey Jessica, you would have made a great mom, why didn't you have kids?" "Oh, never met the right man, plus I have <insert random disease for sympathy>"

Yep, Gen X might be angry and paranoid, but I tell you what, talk to a 38 year old spinster living on her own about men.....

I still think Camille Paglia had the best explanation I've heard. Schism between liberal and radical feminism happened in later 70s in unis etc. Liberals went out into the world had careers etc got on with life after they graduated. Radicals hung round the unis/colleges, weedled their way into being professors via junk phds and raised another generation on a more spiteful dogma of the old creed. Boom! 90s rolls round and you've got one of the most hateful cohorts of women to ever exist. And then THOSE women started teaching the next gens an even worse and more distorted form which is what we are seeing now with millenial/gen z women

As a woman, I do not know a single other women who has not been sexually assaulted to some degree at some point in their life. This is perpetuated by things like the extreme sexualization of women in mainstream media and well just porn, which ever man watches shamelessly apparently.

It’s not THAT hard to be a decent human. Do that and the anger isn’t directed at you anymore. Seems to be working fine for me 🤷🏻‍♂️ if we police ourselves, we can eradicate the men who actually deserve this paranoia/anger….and anger with nothing to be mad at slowly fades. This is a marathon boys, not a 100 meter dash.

I’m not gen X I’m a millennial. But I will say that there is always a constant fear and paranoia that I feel being around men I don’t know. It is very hard for me to convince myself to drink around men. Every time I do drink around men who I am friends with I always start off by saying “I don’t want to have s, I don’t want to get personal with anyone, I don’t want to stay the night anywhere besides my own home, and that I will Uber myself home.” I make this statement because if anything happens then I have witnesses that when I was sober I made my intentions clear. But instead of having fun I’m usually nervous the entire time and end up leaving early. I don’t drink at all anymore because it’s just not fun. It’s just stressful. Being around men at work also makes me nervous. I prefer that there is always at least 3 people in a room. Me and 2 other people. I hate being alone with men I don’t know at work. And I carry. The reason why I feel this way is because I have friends who were taken home when drunk. I have had friends assaulted by co workers. And just hanging out with groups of men I personally know in a social situation I have heard my fair share of sexist comments. To a certain degree Ik most men don’t respect women or don’t respect them until they prove themselves. I also know that there are a lot of guys that do see us as objects and not people. Now anger I can’t speak for. I’m not angry I have bigger problems then being angry at people who haven’t hurt me personally. But the paranoia thing is more of a safety thing. The world is slowly getting more dangerous because people are dangerous. And the reason women are paranoid around men is because most of us would probably rather be killed the r ped

My mom is a Gen-Xer who does not hate men in the slightest, but is very worried about my sisters and I (all girls) getting a proper education and not marrying young. I think it stems from the fact that my grandmother married my grandfather very young and then had 13 kids. She only held a paid job for a few years (although her own mother (my grandmother) saved up money and insisted all of her and her siblings go to college, including the girls, which was uncommon in the 50s) before marrying my grandfather, who, while a good man, was very opinionated and seemed to hold her back from doing things she really wanted in life. I thin growing up in that environment made my mom always want to have the financial option to have a divorce if she ever wanted one. My family is also Catholic, and growing up being told that only men are fit for the highest leadership positions, and only through men will God speak infallibly, and women are naturally good homemakers and gentle, will make you, very reasonably feel like men don't like you and distrust them. It's not hate it's common sense. (This obviously doesn't apply to women who are actually bad people and use feminism to justify it, but this sub seems to ignore the fact that many feminist issues are legitimate).
