As much as I dislike female privilege, this sounds like a legitimate mental disorder. Hoarders can be scary.
" Bradbury suffered from a mental health condition which caused her to hoard possessions and protect them in a "pathological way", the court heard. "

What if a male hoarder stabbed his girlfriend after she told him not to pack so much? If that happened noone would care about the fact he was a hoarder and the headlines would be screaming "male violence"

What a sad “woe is me” world you guys create for yourselves; your neurotic obsession with women and fetishisation of victimhood has led you to ruin your own life.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Logical fallacy. Generalizations and stereotypes are not inherently wrong or inaccurate. They serve a very useful purpose to make sense out of the complex world we live in. Indeed, the existence of a very small number of outliers does not even come close to nullifying the validity of my larger point.
your neurotic obsession with women and fetishisation of victimhood has led you to ruin your own life.
Nice projection, cupcake. No, this fictional male “obsession” and “fetishisation” you claim that men are afflicted with has absolutely nothing to do with the fundamental reality that women and feminism are hell bent on destroying everything that is decent about human relationships so as to hasten the ultimate demise of our own species.
If you look at the facts, you’d see that women and feminism have the market cornered on victimization (and likely fetishization as well, for that matter). But we all already know that feminism, as the pure hate movement that it is, has absolutely no interest in truth or facts. Doesn’t fit your fucked up agenda of complete male annihilation and world domination at all.

I mean is the intent to punish the perpetrator or to rehabilitate them?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I was being a bit rhetorical but it was because I've wrestled with the idea previously.
I intellectually agree with Lewis (and certainly for crimes caused by mental health issues) but sometimes as the victim of a crime, I feel like deterrent is preferable.
Obviously I know that's an emotional response to feeling powerless and in the long run not in anyone's best interest but it's a very real response that many people have.
[–]ApeGoesBananas 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
In an ideal society this question would not exist since such people with mental problems would be properly identified and helped before they can commit such an act. But we're a long way from this.
Unfortunatly in many cases it's not the identification of mental health issues thats gets missed it's the getting the help they need part.

Bradbury, a 50-year-old former invoice clerk
She is not some hormonal toxic teenage girl, her ass deserved prison.
Bradbury, who now lives in Stoke-on-Trent, was given 12-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months. She was also ordered to complete 30 days of rehabilitation.
As usual, the woman pass.
She said to police he deserved it and she wanted to kill herself. ...doesn’t reduce your culpability - the knife could have gone into the chest and it could have been a different scenario. Your conduct has to be marked with a prison sentence but it won’t be an immediate custodial sentence.''

...doesn’t reduce your culpability - the knife could have gone into the chest and it could have been a different scenario. Your conduct has to be marked with a prison sentence but it won’t be an immediate custodial sentence.''
She needs to be in a mental sanitarium, not around sane headed people.
[–]SwiggityStag 27 points28 points29 points 7 years ago* (23 children) | Copy Link
To be fair, I feel like she needs serious help with her mental health more than she needs prison. I'd feel the same way about a man in the same situation, but unfortunately society doesn't generally see it that way.
[–][deleted] 38 points39 points40 points 7 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

I get that it makes you angry, but punishment like prison won't prevent someone like her from doing this again. The problem causing it needs to be solved, or at least treated appropriately. Prison only works as a deterrent for people who already know what they're doing.

Did you miss when I mentioned that she can get help WHILE serving her sentence?
[+]SwiggityStag -14 points-13 points-12 points 7 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
No, I didn't. She should definitely be separated from others in that time, but the idea that this wasn't a reasonable sentence is misinformed and blind to reason. This is the way this should be handled in this case, but men in the se situation should be handled the same way too.
[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
This is the way this should be handled in this case, but men in the se situation should be handled the same way too.
But they aren't. And no one is even bothering to consider this angle.
So what's wrong with making punishments equal across the board? Why give this woman's "Mental Issues" consideration that isn't granted to men with Mental Issues?
I'm sick and tired of having to endure the mindset of "Oh who cares, he was a brutal monster." versus "Oh no, the poor thing. She needs help!". As if men aren't complex or are devoid of emotions.
[+]SwiggityStag -11 points-10 points-9 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Why do you want to fight to take rights away from people rather than fighting for more rights? Is it really better for things to be more shitty all around the board?
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Because the rights of the greater population at large to be free from the fear of being stabbed by a batshit crazy woman should outweigh the rights of that same batshit crazy woman to roam freely in society (now that she has demonstrated her propensity and proclivity toward rage filled episodes of violence).
[–]SwiggityStag -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Well, if you don't want anything to change, and you'd rather men be treated like monsters for their mental illness until the end of days as long as women do too, I guess the rest of us will just move on and make progress without you.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Why do you want to fight to take rights away from people rather than fighting for more rights?
Where did I say, or imply, that I wanted to snatch rights away?
You know, I'm sensing a pattern here. The more I stress about equality applied in all aspects of society the louder you hem and haw about poor criminals like this women as victims that should be helped. Then when I specify that she could receive help while serving her sentence, like men should (but they aren't), you screech louder.
Just like when men insist women should register for the draft, critics like you then scream "WE SHOULDN'T BE DRAFTING PEOPLE!". Well we are still drafting men and there's no signs of that changing even when men protest themselves hoarsely against it.
If nobody, not even parents, are teaching women from as early as childhood that actions have consequences, then it's only fair these women get a wake up call about it in the criminal justice system much later in life should they carry on with this pomposity of living consequence free.
Is it really better for things to be more shitty all around the board?
See above.
[–]GoodRedd 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Not to pile on here, but prison is actually a terrible deterrent in the first place.
It's also terrible for rehabilitation.
The concern in this sub isn't getting her help, it's outlining the differences between how society views and treats men vs women.
[–]SwiggityStag 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, I see the difference and I want to change it, but we want to make things better, not worse. Acting like everyone should get the worst case scenario instead of the best case scenario is just stupid. I'm starting to go off of this sub because I'm seeing people with a victim complex they want to feed turning up more and more.
[–]GoodRedd 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yep, I can see that. It's good to try to be positive, but it's also important to acknowledge that the problem is very real, and very large.
It's entirely possible to want better for men, and also want better for women. But at the very least, media and the law should treat all individuals without bias.
Once media coverage and the law are applied fairly, it will be easier to correct the legal system because half the population won't be getting light sentences and free positive spin.
We just aren't there yet.
[–]SwiggityStag 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've been here for years now, I know and see the issues. But, like I said, I don't think making things worse for someone else is the way to go about seeking equality. Nobody gains from it at all. That's the issue I have with this argument.
[–]rabel111 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The issue here is that women get a free pass for committing violent crimes against males on the basis of mental health issues (ranging from "I was in a bad mood - depression/anxiety - serious mental illness), while men are not given the same empathetic treatment (i.e. depressed male - jail term, serious illness - jail term).
The primary reason for jail terms and longer jail terms, is sex of the offender and victim. Extraordinary sexism from the point of investigation, arrest, hearing and sentencing has been well researched and validated. Misandrists argue that the discrimination in the legal system is appropriate, given we all know that ALL men are violent knuckle dragging wife beating rapists.
[–]perplexedm 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
As mentioned earlier, she is not some immature hormonal toxic girl. The is a mature woman, old enough to understand how crazy she herself is.
She deserves to stay in mental sanitarium away from normal people and jail time.
[–]Kensin -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The is a mature woman, old enough to understand how crazy she herself is.
That seems presumptive. Many people with mental illness don't understand the scope or extent of their problem if they even recognize it at all. Hoarders in particular can be shocked after being told they have a problem even while their homes are filled with trash. Super obvious to everyone else but some just can't see it until their unhealthy behaviors and reactions are explicitly pointed out to them and even then there is often a period of time until it's really accepted.
The question comes down to how much control she had over herself. It's pointless and even counterproductive to punish people for actions they were not in control of.
Basically if she's so mentally unfit that she can't be expected to not stab people she needs to be separated from society for our protection until we can be assured that she can control herself.
Prison in that case would be needlessly cruel and a hospital the more appropriate setting. Once doctors are convinced that she won't hurt others regardless of how her belongings are treated she should be welcomed back into society, but expected to follow any instructions her doctors felt necessary.
I doubt she was in control of how she felt about her stuff being tossed around, but if she was in control of how she acted in response to her feelings then jail time is perfectly justified and she can seek treatment during or after her sentence to figure out better ways to handle her emotions.
[–]perplexedm 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
That seems presumptive.
How about NO ? She is a 50-year-old woman, almost time to kick the bucket.
A former invoice clerk where she knew how to do her job and function basic in society.
Her problem is she don't know how to behave with her husband or family members. Well clear when she is still saying 'he deserved it'.
No amount of beating around the bush is going to help.
Her problem will be solved if she is treated well in psycho dept together with some prison time. If it was man in her place, he crazy ass will hit prison floor and you will not be making useless long winding argument trying to make let women weasel out of self responsibility.

Mental hospitals are only for the rich and the immediately suicidal. The vast majority of crazies are out on the street, literally in the worst cases.
Free residential accomodation is available pretty much exclusively to males through the prison system. Male privilege again.

Welcome to 2019 and the rest of the future, folks. Women think men deserve to be stabbed and murdered simply for breathing and existing. And plenty of other men support and worship women in every single thing they do. The solution? Stay the fuck away from women at all costs. They have already said they are “strong and independent and don’t need a man” .....so don’t get in their way. The life you save may be your own.

I'm surprised to see so many jumping to the defence that she's suffering from a mental health disorder, when the reality is if your reaction to any situation (other than defending yourself) is violence then you too also suffer from a mental disorder. The majority of violent offenders who are in prison for large lengths of time have mental disorders, it's not really an excuse for lighter sentancing.

To be fair she does sound ill. In which case she should be committed to an asylum. Worth noting this usually means she won't get out, at least not out quicker than she would if she just went to prison.
We have to consider that putting a murderously violent hoarder into prison is not going to end well for anyone concerned. The compulsion to take things and hoard them and react with violence to that being challenged, in the context of a prison environment, will quickly result in either her dead, or one of her peers.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
We have to consider that putting a murderously violent hoarder into prison is not going to end well for anyone concerned.
We've been dumping violent males into the prison system for ages now and no one bats an eye.
Why should she get special treatment all of sudden? Because she's ill? You think some male prisoners are immune to mental illness?
[–]azazelcrowley -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Men should be treated similarly. Do not fall for feminist logic where you assume mens situation is the one women should aspire to copy. If men are oppressed. dragging women to our level serves nobody.
Do not fall for feminist logic
Asking for equality is not falling for feminist logic. Stop applying that as it's just as bothersome as when people think women should be treated with kid gloves.
And again, men SHOULD be but they're not and everytime someone raises this issue, they're constantly shouted down. What options do you suggest when this happens? Yelling louder? Protesting int he streets? THAT'S BEEN DONE ALREADY!
If men are oppressed. dragging women to our level serves nobody.
I'm not dragging all women to our level, only women like this in the article.
Fucking hell, I will say this again: NO ONE IS TEACHING THESE WOMEN FROM EARLY CHILDHOOD THAT ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!
Somebody has to teach them. If not their parents or teachers then who else?

Or we treat men the same way?

And why is this a problem? She already demonstrated complete indifference and lack of concern for the fact she maliciously plunged a knife into her partner. She even believes he deserved it. And for what? Because he wanted to unpack some of her clothes? And yet you (and most of the rest of society) want to coddle her and give her hugs and some hot cocoa. Just because she is female. You are fucking crazier than she is. This is why our society is going to shit.
Doesn’t matter how “ill” someone is. I don’t care what their gender is. Those issues are irrelevant. If they are running around with a knife and stabbing people for no objectively legitimate reason then they deserve to be shot. Simple as that.

Well, seeing as women are arrested less often for the same behaviour, charged less often for the same behaviour, are routed to alternative sentencing more often to avoid incarceration, and even when they do get incarceration get shorter sentences plus qualify for parole more often and earlier ... you don't have a single fucking foggy clue what the ACTUAL rate for female violence and aggression really is.
