"#MeToo is over if we don’t listen to ‘imperfect victims’ like Amber Heard"; Gross article denies Men can be victims of abuse & encourages people to never believe Men. Individuals such as this are why so many Men feel uncomfortable about opening up or seeking support.

ikr? I never paid attention to the lyrics until now, was she really asking for it?

[–]EvidencePlz 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She wanted her bf to hit her up again. I was joking. It's just a stupid and shallow gynocentric pop love song written by equally stupid people. Not worth your time to pay attention to it imo.

And yet at least 40 people reconized it.

The spice girls in a post about loneniless! This just made me 30% less depressive for a couple hour. Better than a joint!

This trashy and lazy BBC article starts by explaining the isolation and loneliness experienced by men and boys in a modern feminist dominated society, then quotes a feminist academic (Prof Niobe Way) who femsplains masculinity to men and boys, blaming the persecution, marginalisation and isolation of men and boys in feminist dominated societies on hyper-masculinity.

As always in feminist discourse, hyper masculinity is very bad, because its being extremely male and we all know that being male is very, very bad. In reality, hyper masculiniity is a feminist method for describing men and boys who are all the things that feminist hate about men and boys (try reading the SCUM manifesto by the famous feminist psychotic Valerie Solanas), which like "toxic masculinity" has no valid real-world definition and simply associates "masculinity" with a negative adjective.

The author of the article fails to challenge any of the feminist hate speech published by Way, but offers characterisations of men and boys as macho sit-com personas as evidence supporting her shallow stereotyping of men and boys. Well that oddly makes sense?

In addition, the article discusses the opinions of an Emeritus Prof Dunbar, focusing on sexist stereotypes of men's relationships and social interation based on comparisons with women; “Because males are socially lazy, what tends to happen is the wife ends up driving the social environment for the household,” says Dunbar. OMG, projecting maybe? He is Emeritas and most likely writes from a bygone age, possibly influenced by neuroarterial plaque.

This is a shallow understanding of men's and boys' social interations, which stereotypes men and boys as socially lazy, and ignores the domestic violence of female partners who actively isolate men from their extended family and male/female friends. A similar ignorance is recounted from John Ratcliffe, a researcher at the Centre of Loneliness Studies at Sheffield Hallam University, who claims the high male suicide rates in single men in their 40s and 50s are related to men having a stronger link between marital status and loneliness than women, and a greater ‘reliance’ on partners for intimacy. I guess this academic completely forgot to consider that most separated men with children are alienated from their children and suffer considerably more emotional trauma on relationship breackdown (really? he didn't consider that?).

But the real gem of this garbage journalism is the quote from Prof Dunbar "Men’s reliance on their partners can also lead to further problems. For one, it places a lot of pressure on the women (in heterosexual relationships, at least)." That is the "issue impacts men, women most affected" of the week.

Because males are socially lazy

If males are socially lazy, how does male get into a relationship with female? The article is nothing but sexist, trash.

[–]rabel111 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. but feminists love reading trash that trashes men and boys. It's like feminist porn.

[–]AbysmalDescent 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I hate this idea that it's just because men are socially lazy or inept. It's just wrong. Most men have male friends, and are reasonably content with those friends. Men are usually quite easy to befriend, especially with other men, despite the fact that men already are biologically predisposed to seek out women first and foremost.

The real problem is that men often face a lot of social isolation, especially in mixed groups where women in those groups are often quite unwelcoming or unfriendly towards men or male romantic advances. Often men are even excluded from social groups, simply because they are men and because it makes misandric women "more comfortable". For men, a lot of group settings can be especially dangerous, because the slightest offense perceived by women can result in ostracization, hostile gossiping, slander and expulsion. Women really do not have to walk on egg shells the way men do, because we live in a society that will more or less excuse any toxic behavior from women.

There's also the fact that male loneliness, which is exacerbated because of the way men are treated by women, can also have a lot of negative impacts on male relationships. For starters, a man with unmet emotional/sexual basic needs wouldn't really be in a mindset to focus a lot of time/energy on male friendships, because it just isn't as important as fulfilling that primary need with women. That lack of female intimacy might also often leave them feeling depressed or ashamed, which would make it harder for them to socialize at all.

There's also the fact that men are generally less valued in any kind of social setting, not just by other heterosexual men who have no real romantic/sexual imperative towards them, but by other women who simply do not value the vast majority of men either. This is another negative byproduct of hypergamy, and women's unwillingness to pursue/initiate with men. This value, or social privilege, also gives women a lot more power and influence in most mixed social settings as well.

[–]Qantourisc 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Often men are even excluded from social groups, simply because they are men and because it makes misandric women "more comfortable".

Reminds me of "ladies night".

Agree.

[–]Acousmetre78 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

When I was working on my graduate degree at CalArts the majority of the class was female. They would often explain to us males how we think. They’d say things like a man could not be sexually violated and that men secretly want to be women. Us 2 males in the class would not be listened to. College has changed.

[–]rabel111 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women femsplaining masculinity to men and boys has replaced the voices of men and boys in academic discourse about masculinity. This why academics always define masculinity by men's attitudes to women.

Sadly true that somehow this misandry is not only tolerated, but celebrated in academic communities.

Make male friendships. It saved me.

[–]TheMorningJoe 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is the way

[–]wolfoftheworld 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. Easier said than done, though. Especially as you get older. There are also some men who don't welcome outsiders to their circle.

[–]_BlueShark87 52 points53 points54 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well at least it’s all our fault. Wouldn’t be a good article without that man shaming and then offering nothing to solve it.

[–]BlindMaestro 13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The answer is fraternal organizations.

[–]wolfoftheworld 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I second this. It doesn't seem there is enough of these types of organizations.

[–]PartyAllTheTime3113 41 points42 points43 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, at least they blamed it all on men.

[–]bruh_bro_dude 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The article unfairly blames masculinity as the cause.

However, this is a real problem and the solution is having more male friends for which we need more male only spaces.

[–]PeonSupreme 18 points19 points20 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Learn to tolerate loneliness.

[–]wolfoftheworld 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. The problem with our modern world is nobody takes the time to enjoy their own company. They are too busy filling it with external stimuli.

[–]PeonSupreme 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We’ve all had it relentlessly drilled into our heads that relationships are the solution for every problem.

[–]wolfoftheworld 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Indeed. At least there is starting to be a small movement of people who are rejecting that.

[–]Same-Machine121 points 3 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

If masculinity is the problem, and feminism the solution, why are men unhappier now than 30 years ago?

[–]FuckinNogs 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women as well if I'm not mistaken.

[–]Trick-Champion3634 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s not so hard, go to a bar on Sunday and see the men all by themselves. On a Saturday the men are standing by while the women are living it up and I mean taking shots, sniffing coke, making out. This one couple I saw, the female in the relationship was making out with strangers and the guy was acting like he was cool with it. If that’s not loneliness than I don’t know what is. That being said I’m a loner as well, if I ever go to a bar or club just know I’m alone but the difference is I’m to totally comfortable with it most of the time. Men really have it hard, go to work and bust your ass from Monday to Friday only to hit a bar on the weekend and have your wife make out with you get guys.

[–]Gunslinger1925 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That’d be an ex wife.

[–]Ozhubdownunder 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Socially lazy or socially less needy. Overall the article is a worthwhile read.

[–]g1455ofwater 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The article is ok but it goes a bit into the stereotype of women's problems are society's responsibility but men's problems are the individual man's problem. So by doing this they don't advise more funding for men or more investment into men they mostly start rattling off tips for how to make friends. But it's a societal problem and giving friendship tips to men is like responding to heavy crime areas by giving the phone number to a locksmith.

It also either goes too far into pro stereotypical male behavior or too far anti-masculinity. Some men are stereotypical and some aren't and I don't think that is the main issue for either one being lonely.

It talks about how men adopt a wife's friends as his own and says men are socially lazy but ignores that men are often expected to drop all their friends when they get married and devote themselves to their wife because of gynocentric dating standards that favor women. I've never agreed with the idea that men's friends shouldn't be part of his life after marriage.

The one person talks about lack of friendships being a symptom and that's true, but if you bring up the microscope the bigger problem is men are only loved if they provide but women are loved unconditionally.

[–]evamads2 points 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I’m about to get married, I think that your family and your spouse should be your main priority but it’s important to make space for friends and guys/girls nights, just like it’s important for date night. Me and my fiancé have discussed making time for both. If you get lazy and stop actively dating each other when you’re married, it can cause problems. Same thing with not actively making time for friends. I’m worried that I’m going to be the lonely one because my fiancé had work friends & old friends from his frat whose partners I just “hang out” with (some of them are really cool but others I don’t have anything in common with).

[–]slipkit98 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have been alone for 7 years. Became pessimistic, opposite from the person full of hope I used to be. I’ve been considering going to Ukraine

[–]selfiepiniated 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I’m not surprised. Some men cannot even look you in the eye these days. If you are too friendly, you are seemed a bit suspicious. I think some men are also self-obsessed, too self-conscious, neurotic, paranoid, and awkward, which makes it challenging to connect and make friends, and this leads to loneliness.

[–]LSX81 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Has alot to do with open eyes and shiesty people. More people are open to human nature and realize genuine friends are so rare that terrible people are sometimes masked by the illusion that they are good people. Friends that will backstab you at your low points or when you slip up.

[–]Gunslinger1925 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m an introvert. Always have been. I’ve bonded with other dudes at work as acquaintances. Have even become Waldorf and Statler with them, poking fun of things.

But at my core, I’m still an introvert. I’ve never been into sports, and not everyone enjoys going to the shooting range to pop off a boxes of rounds in my field of work. (Education). Not that I could if wanted to with the rising costs of everything.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to find some dudes to hang out with and do shut with, but it feels difficult. I may look for some drawing clubs or something around town.

As for the article, I did see the femsplaining was strong with that one.

[–]lifesuckswannadie 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They don't care about men until one snaps and does a mass shooting

Then they blame all the other men who didn't do anything
