It happened to my best friend. Did not sign up, didn't get to do student loans for college. Had to pay out-of-pocket and use private loans.

He's also banned for life to work for the Fed government or its contractors.

And since we're engineers, it's not a trivial ban. Happily, he made it and has a great job now, but it was a rough ride.

It's fascinating how many services and outlets that purport to "help" always frame things as though they're men's fault. "Men are depressed because they don't cry.", "Men commit suicide because they don't share their feelings.", "If men don't want to pay child support then they shouldn't have sex.", it's always men's fault lol. Societal narratives about men just have to make you laugh. I'm so lucky to have women and men around me who treat me like a human being instead of as the embodiment of some vague evil concept like "patriarchy".

I’m curious. My experience signing up with selective service was going to the website to sign up only to find out I had already been signed up about six months prior (which would have been when I was 17 1/2). Did anyone else have this happen? Is it automatic since 2009?
