Doesn't that depend on ~~femicide~~ female homicide rates? Something unknown which is why they are starting to track it.

Seriously though, homicide stats are already kept. Aaaand guess what, women are murdered WAY LESS OFTEN THAN MEN.

So, anyway, fmicide is a feminist coined term, so already it is suspect. But, if we use "the intentional killing of women" as its definition, then we have to decide what that means still, from a legal perspective.

Does it mean "any killing of a woman?" Well, we already know what that rate is. So that can't be right. Does it mean that the primary motivating factor in the murder was that the victim was female? It has to be, otherwise it can't be different from homicide. Prove that the perpetrator killed this person solely because they were female.

You're saying there isn't a problem and the government is saying we want to collect data to see if there is a problem.

Again, how do you differentiate between the two when you can't possibly know the true motivation of the killer without an express statement stating they killed this person ONLY because they were female? You can't, it's impossible. The data will be suspect from the beginning.

Isn't monitoring statistics a better approach than just shoving your head in the sand and saying there isn't an issue without any statistical analysis being done?

You can't monitor what can't be proven. And incarcerating people based on a hunch is damn bad.

Denying a problem exists without gathering data is obviously a horrible approach. I would think you're educated enough to see that as you seem like am intelligent person.

Generally, yes. But again, how do you "collect data" on something that you can't prove? You're saying that it's possible to tell that a murderer killed this person solely because said person was female and for no other reason. It's asinine.

I used to think the way you do, and for the most part, it's absolutely true. But it's simply not true in many cases. If you are unaware of certain contexts that are material to a decision you are making, you didn't really have a choice. Because if you had known (ignorance) you wouldn't have made that choice. Likewise, if you are heavily intoxicated, your critical thinking abilities are severely handicapped; can you honestly say you can make a reasoned choice that way?

Our brains are also wired to make certain choices more difficult, take addicts or abuse victims for example. They can make the choice to stop/leave, but backsliding happens all the time, and it's because the parts of our brains that allow us to make those choices are compromised.

Yes, we "always" have a choice in the strictest sense. But no, we don't always have a choice in a more abstract consideration of what choice means.

There's no such thing as a "hate" crime. That's nonsense propaganda; hate is a motive. Lots of crimes have hate as a motivation. Take a look at all the recent assaults on Asians, are those "hate" assaults? No, they're fucking assaults committed by morons.

The moment a society starts protecting or actively privileging some people more than others, we get Animal Farm. It has to stop.

Hate crime laws like this exist because people that murder based on race, gender, sexuality, or religion are significantly more likely to reoffend.

And putting them in a tiny box with no real opportunities to rehabilitate for an even longer period of time is definitely going to help their mental state and prevent re-offending. Right? RIGHT? 🙄

Fuck, most murders aren't even race/gender/sex/religion oriented.
