I'm so tired of hearing the counterargument that "the patriarchy hurts men too!" whenever I mention or talk about misandry. To illustrate how bad faith and simply untrue this kind of sentiment is I will analogize it with capitalism:

Let's Imagine person 1 says: "A rich man was falsely convicted of a crime and imprisoned for 20 years", a clear example of something NOT caused by capitalism, but the legal and judicial system.

Person 2, who is a socialist responds to this claim with: "Well, capitalism hurts rich men too!". Sure, the "system", is certainly capitalistic, but this isn't relevant. In the case of a rich man being falsely convicted of a crime, this was in no way caused or influenced by capitalism, it was caused by a system, which is capitalistic, but it being capitalistic had no direct influence.

Now, how is this relevant to the patriarchy and misandry? Misandry, social contempt for men, the normalization of male disposability, and structural double standards against men, is often not a byproduct of male dominance, but a phenomenon in its own right.

Reframing it as "patriarchy hurting men" erases misandry as a valid concept and keeps all interpretive power within a feminist-defined lens. So, even assuming that there's a hypothetical "patriarchy"(which i dont agree with), this kind of response doesn't make sense at all and is just another way of shifting the blame back on men.

TLDR: just as not all harm in a capitalist society is caused by capitalism, not all harm to men is caused by patriarchy.
