I think nominalism is a good idea, essentialism is bad idea. We should look at how things are and find practical definitions, we should not waste time figuring out what words "really" mean.

The whole gender spectrum idea is kind of nutty. It's a response to the problem that some people aren't comfortable with the gender roles of their sex, which is a valid problem. But instead of doing the obvious thing and saying 'lets get rid of these silly gender roles' they go in the complete opposite direction and start re-theorizing gender as something which is both an essential and intrinsic aspect of a person's identity AND a malleable and, basically undefinable spectrum. And so the contradictions start to pile up.

False dichotomy--saying gender is either a spectrum or just male and female is not sustainable under any scrutiny.

Gender is BOTH biologically and socially determined; individuals have free reign to express their self-identities, but they almost exclusively fall into as few as six camps with regards to gender identifications. If one were to believe in only the black side, it would muddy the waters of gender identification as somehow being a conscious choice and not a fundamental biological desire; if one were to believe only the white side, there's no biological argument against homosexuality, asexuality, transsexualism/intersexuality, and a host of other avenues of sexual self-identification that exist in the animal kingdom already.

Separating the two is what has created the fallacious debate that animates silly Red/Blue politics in America. Only by repairing the two definitions can we actually move forward in our discussions of gender identity and sexuality.

Gender is a spectrum mainly influenced by ones biological traits. Mostly it matters and restricts individuals a lot less than most vocal gender-specialists tend to claim-

Well, it's hard not to, because apart from #3, which I'd think isn't a factor, the right-hand column doesn't describe gender, but sex.

Also, sex is NOT just a dichotomy - think of the fungi! Some species may have hundreds of different sexes, even if some amount of them form ideal pairs with one another.

Any combination that does not permit sexual reproduction is a biological mistake, either due to in womb incubation time or flaws in individual base materials. I totally believe that sexual orientation is an expression of that persons genetics just like Sickle Cell, Cystic Fibrosis, Tay-Sachs, Hemophilia, Huntington's disease, Marfan syndrome, and any number of a thousand others, and no evidence points to anything else. I know, love, and am related to gay people, I do not hate them for what they feel but I also know that they are biological dead ends in a form of mutation that renders them basically sterile (in most cases).

Oh well, I appreciate the honesty people. You've made it abundantly clear that giving any help to society, charity or people in general isn't worth it. Why support people who don't support you? Altruism? Nah, maybe being naive.

I have no fucking idea how my parent's generation became more open to ideas and varieties of people than their children's one, but it happened. Oh well, I guess as long as you are totally "normally gay" or "a real man" then you are fine. Anything else and you're deviant. :( Fuck this, fuck almost all of you. I think that those are two different definitions of gender, both of which are correct. Physically, gender is defined by genetics and your body, ect. Mentally, you have the whole idea of a spectrum, ect. Both of them are correct in ways.
