I don't really care how many "true" feminists insist it's all about equality and helping men too, as long as self-proclaimed feminists continue to actively work against men's rights and no effort is being made to counter them, I'll take issue with the movement as a whole. Take the protests that just happened at Dr. Warren Farrell's lecture; where were the "true" feminists when their "fake" feminist brethren were screaming in the faces of bystanders and clashing with the police because University of Toronto dared to host a seminar on men's issues?

Feminism does not advocate for equality at all. Unless by equality you mean access to services, opportunities, liberties, and rights that are denied to men. Which is how feminism defines equality. And that is the problem that this subreddit has with feminism. Have you seen the UoT Farrell protest video? Pretty representative of the feminist reaction to men trying to have equal rights with them.

Feminism, when distilled down to its dictionary definition, is perfectly acceptable to all but the beardiest MRA. The social, political, and legal equality of genders. Fair enough, right?

California FINALLY granted men some of the same rights women had, but feminist and caliofnria now fought bitterly against it.

The problem is, people aren’t able to accept the idea of discrimination against men. Because feminism is not equality. It may have been once, like when women were fighting for the right to vote and own property and such, and I would have supported it then. I still support gender equality, and will support feminism when it and true equality intersect. But when you get into shit like this, how the hell is that equality? That's supremacy, pure and simple. Whenever it's suggested that men could maybe have it worse in any area of society, feminists reject it. Either it doesn't exist, or it's a side effect of the patriarchy's oppression of women. Their entire ideology is based on the fact that society is patriarchy, and men oppress women. Accepting the premise that men have it worse in any area of society or that female privilege exists flies right in the face of their central dogma. It's a religion, except they don't have God, just Satan. Many of their arguments and tactics fall in line with anything and everything a fundamentalist Christian would use. Don't think that women should be made to carry their rapist's baby? BABY-KILLING MURDEROUS SCUM! Think that life begins at conception and so aborting fetuses is morally wrong? WOMAN-HATING RAPE APOLOGIST SCUM! It's intellectually dishonest, and feminist argument 101 in a nutshell. Don't march lockstep with Big Sister? Well, you're just a misogynist/rape apologist/rape supporter/Republican/neckbeard virgin shitlord.

And yes, there are people who call themselves feminists but support true equality. My mother, grandmother, and several of my closest friends are all examples. Yet even these people, when they fail to call out (and sometimes even embrace) the full-on misandry in their movement, contribute to the problem.

Ask a feminist how they feel about a popular mens issue and see how many fucks they give. We are completely for the feminist goals that give women equal rights, it is when feminists try to deny equal rights to men however that we have a problem.

In one phrase: Feminism thinks women are an oppressed class, when they are not.

Being an oppressed class in a liberal society is like a blank check. And rightly so for actual minorities (imho). Women are not minorities, in either sense of the word.

What is an ideology? It's a description of what the problems are, what's causing the problems and how to solve them. Feminism gets the first part right - identifying womens issues. However because it falsely thinks women are oppressed, it completely messes up the next two bits.

Feminism advocates gender equality, so I don't see why people dislike it so much.

I actually just made a post on this topic somewhere else. Feminism means something different to so many people. It can mean total annihilation of men to the most extreme, or gender equality at the other end. The former is basically a joke, but there are feminists who just laugh at the idea that men face any type of issue. The recent twitter fiasco is a great example of that. People who identify as feminists are joking and laughing about male rape and a number of other issues that we consider to be very serious.

If you're a feminist who only cares about gender equality then I support you and what you believe in. Just don't tell me that we don't need this space because feminism addresses our problems as well as women's. There was a post in r/feminism the other day about a men's issue. One of the commenters was accused of "what about the menzing." If we're all working together, and my issues should be seen as valid, then why is my voice dismissed because of my gender?

If you haven't seen the recent twitter stuff, then I recommend reading it first. There's a hell of a lot of hate there.

If it was for equality, you wouldn't call it feminism.

You can't salvage feminism because the name itself makes it sexist. Even if today all violent man hating fanatics disappeared, within a few years (even months) a whole lot of new ones will have joined. Because the word feminism attracts misandrists and female supremacists.

And the presence of "nice feminists" will never change that.

Besides, even most egalitarian feminists subscribe to divisive concepts like patriarchy theory or male privilege or make false and sexist assumptions about men being in power.

The major problem I have with it is that it focuses on comparatively minor western(mostly white) women's issues while ignoring larger Men's and non western women's issues.

It takes a long of money and much needed attention away from those issues.

And it can be quite sexist. Read some Mary Daly or Andrea Dworkin.

Short answer:

They are liars. Every single study cited by feminists is a fraud and they regularly engage in shaming tactics rather than honest conversation. They not only deny male victimhood but mock male victims. They also assert that feminism is not responsible for solving men's problems, which wouldn't be a problem except that they also claim that "FEMINISM=EQUALITY DUH!" and universally oppose the MRM.

Basically they are our mortal enemies and have been waging war on our rights for the past 50 years.
