When you follow the trail from the article to the study and then to the data, you find the definition of "loneliness" that is used in the original study and which is then twisted in all the articles currently doing the circuit.

We all interpret "lonely" subjectively and as an emotional reaction. To describe the fact that men don't have the social relationships they desire shouldn't be defined as lonely. That puts the blame on men when what needs to be examined are the desired social relationships that are available.

Why not define "the discrepancy between actual and desired social relationships" using other words.

What about he writes an article on "The rise of un-lonely and extremely happy single men" ? I'd consider it worth my time to read something like that. I wouldn't spend time on this garbage.

I've been happily single since 2016, gone full MGTOW since then and couldn't be much happier. Of course this doesn't apply to or work for everyone I understand, but I'm just saying that just because someone has chosen to remain single for the rest of their lives doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

This is actually really easy to answer.

Dating apps are for women, 80% of consumer dollars are spent by women, and movies and television are primarily targeting women, 90% of publications are produced for women. Women outnumber men hugely in psychology degrees and not surprisingly the majority of psychological patience are women. Hell even most of Porn is owned and produced by women and it's made to be palatable to women.

So if you want to make money target women with your product! If you want funding for a study make sure it has a result women will like.

Of course it is! My own husband recently told me about being nine and crying after he hurt himself, and his father and male cousins were scolding him and saying men don’t cry, stop crying. They were literally angry. He said he got up and never cried again. I’ve seen him cry lots but I don’t know that he ever cried in front of another man again.

Years ago (like - decades) I read some article that talked about the top 5 reasons why men and women cheat on their significant others.

All 5 reasons for men were basically different ways of saying: "men are pigs and can't keep it in their pants". There was no mention of shrewish, henpecking, frigid women and men being trapped by kids and mortgage and alimony and all that shit... nope... it was all different flavors of "men are pigs and can't keep it in their pants, and thats why they cheat".

Meanwhile, the article also listed 5 reasons why women cheat...

Those were things like:

The woman's partner isn't making life exciting enough for her.
The woman's partner doesn't make her feel appreciated.
The woman's partner is a pig and can't keep it in his pants and the women are cheating to get back at them...

Bottom line according to that article:

If men cheat, it's because men suck.
If women cheat, it's because men suck.

It's all the same shit with this article and it's only proof that the more some things change, the more they stay the same.

Primarily because men are always expected to make the first move. At least in my experience. I even had a teacher at my school say “my husband asked me out, and back then every boy did that [at prom or in nightclubs, etc].” Ultimately I think that’s the issue. Although most mature and nice girls don’t give a shit about all that. Most of the girls I’ve met aren’t assholes and are happy to split the bill, ask me out, etc etc.

I think there's a topic touched on in the comments that would do well to be aired: personality.

No, us guys almost never talk about personality as a trait we look for in a potential partner. The joke between men is that if we say she's got a nice personality, we mean that she's not good looking.

At the core of our caveman brain, fertility is actually what we screen women for, not good looks. There are a few signs some of which we can spot literally from a mile away: breasts, pubic hair, 70% hip-to-waist ratio (regardless of size), symmetrical facial features, coloration of skin/face, glossy hair. These are all signs of health and fertility - we need to know if this particular woman in front of us will carry our baby to term and beyond. Perhaps you could make the argument that men use looks as a proxy for fertility, or vice-versa. I remain convinced that they are linked, in any case.

Personality does NOT affect this in any way.

I understand that women size men up in a similar way, but using different measures: confidence (i.e. personality), build, symmetrical facial features - and here's where it differs - attire (which can be a proxy for wealth) and social circle (a proxy for status).

Women need to know a different metric: is this man in front of her likely to provide well for her and her baby? Personality plays into that.

It's only as men age that their hormones calm down a bit and they realize that there is more to a relationship than fertility.

But from my own experience, what I look for in her personality is largely limited to how easy going she is. i.e. how well does she cope with stress? I don't really give a fig if she doesn't like my taste in clothes, or share my interest in 1980s Japanese motorcycles, what I care about is that she doesn't get stressed by our differences.

I also don't care if she is into underwater basket weaving, or paints the toenails of stray cats at the weekend. What I care about is whether we enjoy our time together - i.e. lack of stress.

As an aside, I have heard the rumour that women can (and do) mold their "personality" to suit the needs of their latest crush, only to revert to their original quirks once that crush lapses. Is there any truth to this?
