I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this, but I haven't seen it discussed in here.

Texas and Ohio are regulating most of their abortion clinics out of business, and making it much harder for women to get access to an abortion. Florida and NC are following in that path, and more Republican-controlled states will surely follow suit once they see that an effective way to ban abortion has been found, even though they can't technically outlaw it completely.

More and more women who are unexpectedly pregnant and do not want to have a child will find themselves being told, "You cannot have an abortion. The government is going to force you to undergo the full 9 months of pregnancy and to give birth... unless you say you were raped. If you say that, then you can have an abortion."

Sounds to me like we're about to see a sharp rise in reported rapes in Texas, most of them perpetrated by nondescript men who "I didn't get a good look at, I can't describe his face".

It's likely that on occasion, the police will pressure the woman and push for more details... at which point the woman might describe a man she knows, just to get the police off her back and to be allowed access to an abortion. It will be of more value to some people to be allowed the abortion than to avoid getting an innocent person in trouble with the law.

Then with a larger number of false rape reports mixed in with the real ones, sorting them out will be difficult for the police. Not only will innocent men be punished, but more actual rapists will get away with their crime.

I'm not here to convert anyone from being pro-life to pro-choice. If there are women reading this, let me clarify that I do understand that restricting abortion access does more harm to women than to men. I just wanted to point out that there will be some negative effects to both genders.
