If we both work 40 hrs a week how is it fair if I have to do 70% of the house chores?

I think a lot of commenters, including me, pointed out that they do outearn their partners...and don't expect them to go out of their way to "make up for it". If we don't expect our partners to do it, it makes sense that we wouldn't do it if the situation was vice versa.

I believe that chores should be divided by the time one has. I wouldn't want to overwork my husband in the kitchen just because he makes less but we have similar hours. If he wanted me to "compensate" my lower salary in this way, I'd question his feelings for me really.

Dude, this is such a yawn. I'm allowed to say that now. This is why women leave y'all's dusty dump asses like crazy. We work 40 hours as well. Making more money does not entitle you to a live in the house slave that is supposedly someone you love.

I've got parents that treat me better and would love to cohabitate in equal and loving ways. There's government benefits that would treat me better. If your best argument for why you should get a cook, house-keeper, and child-care is making extra money compared to me, godspeed with that pathetic attitude. We'll find men who can grow the fuck up and do the dishes too, take a kid to the dentist, and make his own breakfast. Or, you can pay a maid, cook, and housekeeper to do your half of things. I don't mind if Olga is the one making your breakfast. I'm very open to the possibility she washes your clothing and goes to parent teacher night.

Daily reminder that women can and do have jobs, make their own money, and even be the higher earner in their relationships. I agree that men should step up and contribute at the 50% mark.

100% of his check goes to the joint account and 100% of my check goes to the joint account. We work as a team to balance home and kids....yall really are making things way more complicated than they have to be. If, as a man, you live in a home and choose to have children then you are also choosing to take care of the home and children. This whole attitude is the reason I get shocked expressions and "you're so lucky!" comments when people find out my husband does the cooking.

I don't get the whole resentment thing if one partner happens to earn more. If you're living with someone you're in a relationship with presumably you like them and would like to share with them rather than call them a leech for only paying what they can afford? Especially as those who earn any substantial amount less are generally taking on a substantial amount of responsibilities at home to contribute, and generally you've chosen the relationship knowing the income difference full well. (Obligatory disclaimer that I'm the higher earner.)

I’ve always had more money and more assets than my boyfriends. I expect equality and for everything to be 50%. I will never clean up after an adult man and If they can’t cook or clean they’re essentially a child. I don’t ever want any relationship to feel like I’m their parent.

I don't contribute more time to make up for our wage gap - and even in the same line of work my husband is 16 years older than me, he's at the wave cap for our sector while I won't reach it for another 5 years or so. But I am specialising and might overtake him, not likely before he takes early retirement though!

But I do have far cheaper taste than him, that gap is enough that while I pay proportionally for larger spends (50/50 on bills, food etc) I am the 'loser' financially based on my subjective value of expensive stuff.

I personally think women working doesn’t change your roles as a wife in a marriage. I think that’s a misconception (50/50 relationships) that women in the west has adapted which is part of the reason why marriages are such failures here. Women don’t want to do their role. Everyone has a role in life. Women in other countries have no problem working and still coming home to take care of their wifely duties because it’s not about them, it’s about the betterment of the family. Women wanted to work , you got your chance to work and now they’re upset because they thought it would make a difference in their role as a wife. Hell, as a black person in the states, my ancestors ALWAYS worked outside the house and the wives were coming home to clean the house & care for the kids because that’s your role regardless if you work or not.

Equal contribution means time. So if the extra income took extra time each week than it makes sense to take on more chores for the less time person since chores are a time thing not a money thing. So just earning more money for same amount of time doesn’t make sense that the partner would do anything more. If the person suddenly earning more money wants to get a divorce and date someone that earns more to avoid a leech…bye bye I guess 🤣
