Is Marriage worth it for successful men?

If divorces are possible, legal marriages don't make sense. You make a life-long commitment that you, technically, don't have to commit to.

There's no reason for marriage anymore. At all. What was once a great institution has become a shell of its former self. What we currently call marriage is a joke.

It used to be a lifelong contract, enforced by society. Your children will be raised in an environment with a mother and father present and if you chose to separate, there were consequences socially.

Nowadays marriage is solely for the woman. It's not even about children anymore, whatsoever. Marriage has turned into a financial safety net that women can cash in at any point in the relationship (The longer she waits the bigger the payout!), and then she gets to rear the children in a broken home.

It doesn't work.

It's actually more beneficial nowadays to have children outside of marriage. There's no cash prize for the woman if the relationship goes sour and you can actually make sure more of your money is going to your kids as there's (currently) no alimony paid.

Marriage as a whole isn't worth it as it is no longer something considered permanent.

From the males perspective: Marriage isn't worth it because it is not a permanent contract of any kind. There is no definite commitment. Nothing is actually secure.

Basically the wife Flo wants to go to parties of her friends, so she decides to go with her husband to adopt a child. Now I dunno about you guys but I'm thinking a Dentist who went to the other Dentist child's 10th birthday party might have a closer relationship, or at least more time to hang than the Dentist outside of the party. I'm pretty sure equal "face time" on or off the clock is a feminist bitching point.

Come to think about it, could people be taking the risk because they just wanna do cool activities with their friends and their kids give them the excuse?

Firstly your stat is questionable, you should cite you sources.

Secondly, if you don't plan on making children and aren't in need of a few tax breaks then marriage is mostly meaningless to you.

I've noted this before, but typically when you get up in the very top, marriage is more of a business necessity than a romantic equation. In other words, you pretty much have to get married.

In the upper echelons of society, marriage is political. It is useful to be seen to be able to handle a marriage as well as your demanding career, it shows you have your shit together, you're grounded and trustworthy, you care about legacy and the long term, you're less likely to be reckless with your business/career choices etc. It basically identifies you (accurately or not) as a 'reasonable' man with whom you can pleasantly do business.

Marriage literally serves no purpose. You get a few legal perks but that's it. There's no overwhelming reason to get married. Cohabitation is the future imo.

If you want family/legacy/heirs/respect/life-long companionship

Of course marriage has an unfortunate risk and that risk is too high for many. But if you want to take your chances, marry a smart woman (not necessarily ~~indoctrinated~~ educated, but smart) from a solid family, that has a good relationship with her father, that has brothers, that is from an environment where marriage is important and taken seriously and you'll have a pretty good shot at having a successful marriage.

Of course, you have to be the shit though. So if you aren't the shit, need not apply.

Marriage is only worth it for men who want to be politicians. Maybe for some high class business men but that is suspect. Other than that, no its not really worth it today.

Literally anyone can come up with examples from their own lives of a marriage gone wrong. The fact is, upper class people are more likely to be married and stay married. They also tend to marry at a later age. The risk of divorce is lower for successful people. If you are young and poor then yes, you are more likely to get screwed over.

There are a few thing that come with marriage.
- Social security death benefits are extended to your spouse. If you aren't married, then it's basically seeing that money disappear to nothing and your family might then elect to pay a monthly amount for death benefits. This is not really a direct benefit since it only kicks in if you die, but some people, like myself, feel it is important to make sure your family is taken care of posthumously. I have a daughter and I would hope my wife would have what she needs to get raise her - Of course, especially when one partner makes significantly less, there are tax benefits to being married. I got an extra $4,000 in my pocket for getting married.
- This one is a big one for me: you get a legal advocate for when you are impared. Of course, the important thing here is having a partner you trust, but if you've never been hospitalized for something major in the U.S., you might not be aware of how incompetent the medical industry is, and how nurses can be inattentive and not pass on information to doctors. I almost died from brain swelling once and was in no position to advocate for myself. The nurses had no idea what was happening even though it was one of the things the doctor had ordered to watch for. It took my wife throwing a fit and demanding a neurologist to have them do an MRI and then give me lasix to reduce the swelling. Essentially without her I would be dead. Now your parents can advocate for you, but in this case my parents were around and were pretty useless. If you're fine with your parents having control over life or death decisions then this probably isn't so important.
- not so much a big one for me because the company I was with when I was unmarried allowed for a domestic partner, but many company health plans will not extend to your partner unless you are married. Again, not a direct benefit, but it is something if you think of the family unit as a whole.

It's a free country. Get married if you like, get divorced if you like. To imagine that there is one correct answer for this question is a false dichotomy.

Everyone is different, every situation is different.

If you don't like marriage, don't get fucking married. Some people do want to get married, let them.

Where do you get the 60% stat from ? Also , you're right , no need to get married if you don't feel like it . Not getting married doesn't stop you from having a love life fortunately .
