Dude, I don’t want you to feel like you were cheated out of a long reply to yours which you put effort on, but I just have this burning question: do you want to be proven wrong? Have you talked to clinical psychologists? People with any sort of licensed expertise on this sort of thing? I’m not asking you to go to therapy or counseling, I believe that would make an improvement on your life but regardless... all the ones that I’ve talked to single or married are all fine with this sort of thing. The research shows that physical attraction is what sparks that first interaction or better consideration of a relationship. It’s actually pretty consistent with the rest of the research literature that shows that divorce rates are high. The consensus is that if human mate selection is primarily based off of looks, then you would expect a lot of relationships not working out because of personality incompatibility. S-her bf was unattractive imo and eventually I suspected that something was definitely wrong with him mentally. Initially he seemed like a great guy but after some months the facade faded and bit by bit red flags started flaring. They got together in highschool. He wasn’t her first boyfriend but he’s the one she went the furthest with from what she told me. They were sexually active but using protection. She got pregnant and couldn’t get an abortion because neither she or the boyfriend had could come up with the money in time to get one by the time she found out and her mom kicked her out and cut ties. He was physically abusing her and I suspected it was going on for a while because I witnessed it while I was bringing their son home. The son is usually very talkative, chipper and hyper but while the whole ordeal was happening and I was trying pull him off her. The boy was just standing their eerily quiet and still. That seems like a conditioned response to me because any kid witnessing that for the first time would probably scream and cry. For her faults she would nag him a lot, but it’s because he was lazy and had no ambition. She was working full time with overtime to support herself the guy and their son while he could never hold down and job and he eventually just stopped working. He wouldn’t even adequately help out with their son. It as always her, her family(after they reconnected), the bfs mom and sometimes me taking care of the kid. As crass as she’d be with her nagging and complaints when she was frustrated though, that to me didn’t warrant him beating her up.

K- Her bf was just and emotionally distant bum and cheater. Maybe he had a scarcity mindset or something but while he was dating her he’d still hit on and shoot his shot with hundreds of girls hoping one would take him up on his offer. It worked once or twice but didn’t go too far. Tbh it seems like they both stayed with each other because they both felt they couldn’t find better. Her flaw is that she keeps forgiving him for his cheating.

C- Her flaw is that she gave her bf the whole farm for free. Hoping he’d marry her but it’s not happening. She shot herself in the foot. They both work full time. However, she’s the only one that cooks, cleans and takes care of the kids. He’s the type of dude who you have to beg to “babysit” his own children.

Me- with that one ex he was really verbally abusive,manipulative and hypocritical. I was the one putting in most of the work in the relationship too. I made sure the sex was really good for him and implemented feedback. I always paid for both of us when we went on dates. I was always the one who went to go see him, or meet up with him. I was emotionally supportive and made him feel comfortable to be vulnerable about his past and his issues with his family. When he opened up to me I naively thought it would be ok to open up to him too, but whenever we’d get into disagreements about something he’d throw the stuff I told him back in my face to try and make me angry or cry because he didn’t like the fact that I’d just be quiet and calm if he started going off. He successfully got me to cry one time after a really stressful and stupid fight and he was so happy about this while he was consoling me. This disturbed the hell out of me and subconsciously I realized I needed to leave because I slowly started putting space in between us and making up excuses to try and avoid hanging out and talking to him. Eventually I did leave which prompted and angry vindictive tirade from him. This relationship also made me realize I needed to curb my doormat nice girl tendencies.

What all this has also made me realize is that when going for a “low value” guy you run the risk of being subjected to his wrath for all the women that “wronged him”. Piggybacking off your car example there’s also people out there who’ll mistreat their heat up car because a “little” damage and wear and tear won’t matter anyway since the car is already “sh*tty and can take it”. You can also be used as a self-esteem booster for them to work on getting the girls they really want while you’re just there as a fall back plan. I worry because I now know that by dating them you’re providing them that opportunity to try.

How many of what men? The ones I approached?

I honestly don’t think I am out of all my friends only one is in a relationship with a “desirable” guy. She’s practically his “mom” but she likes being dominant so it works for them I guess.

You can get to better than where you are though. My parents were born and raised in a third world country. They could’ve used the circumstances of their birth and youth to justify being stagnant. After all they weren’t born in a wealthy country full of opportunity so why try if other people are going to have better for half the effort? Thankfully they didn’t think like this(my mom at least) and they leveled up. They’re both middle class in a first world country now. My mom is upper middle class after she divorced my dad and remarried a man that makes as much as her. Even if you won’t achieve perfection you can still achieve better.
