It would depend on how much your financial situation allows and what she's used to. I'd probably allow for not quite twice what you now spend on entertainment and adjust from there. This is assuming you intend to take a dominant/leadership role in the relationship.

That seems a bit low for NYC.

If you've gone exclusive with the typical NYC transplant working a professional job -
- regular meals. (12 times a month)
- nice meals - appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 alcoholic drinks, dessert. (3-5 times a month) - movies and events.
- her events.
- necessary travel/vacations.

Plus you need to actually be in the gym and socializing more to hedge against female fickleness.

And this is at the opportunity cost of working on your job.

1500 doesn't seem to be enough. That's 375 a week, and you can easily spend that on meals and drinks.

Lol that's significantly more than I've ever spent in a month on stuff with my partner. You could make do on 500-750 at least.

We split costs on most stuff, but if I do pay for her, it's usually no more than 150-200/month. She has her own money and those are more like romantic well-thought out gestures.

You've gotten some joke answers. I understand that its become a thing for some girls without a lot going on to get guys to pay for dates when they are not interested.

That's why first dates should be very inexpensive. You live in New York, so I would do this. First date is coffee, so budget 20$. She should offer to split or pay unless she is really into you and somewhat traditional.

I've always been pretty sex role traditional, I'll explain how simplistically I gauge who pays what and what I've expected on a date.

If I dont like you I'm paying for my own coffee and exiting politely sideways.

If I'm ambivalent but I need to know more, I offer to split the bill and hand you cash that will cover my part of the tip. This is not a bad place to be if your also vetting for a partnership.

Second date a tourist thing and street food. If it's going well I would half-heartedly ask to pay, but succumb and show I'm grateful when he pays. This is the PDA phase. Budget 60$ for New York? Not sure what a hotdog, and maybe moving somewhere more intimate (like a cafe) would cost there.

Third date should include either one of your family or friends or a glimpse into your lifes. My husband took me to a Saturday afternoon Jazz jam . I told his mom 3 weeks later that it was the moment I knew I loved him.

4,5,6,7,8.. We were a couple of days a week together. I thought he liked Sex and the City for its entire run, true story. It was just a cheap date.

Your in New York. If your income is limited and both of you have your heads on straight you know your local joints. Indian, Ethiopian, Portuguese, Vietnamese, etc joints. Dinner once a week or so 60$.

I'd budget for serious dating in New York including pub nights with friend 200$ a week.
