Amy Schumer's 2015 "Trainwreck" -- thoughts?

I've really enjoyed her Comedy Central show and have thought some parts are brilliant. I take her act to be satire.

There are two main parts to her "Any Schumer" character.

One part is the physical - she make her appearance the butt of a lot of jokes and she's quite harsh on herself. Watch the Twelve Angry Men parody episode from a few weeks ago. It was literally a full half-hour of twelve men in a room debating whether she's attractive, and some of it was pretty brutally honest. It takes bravery to be willing to do that kind of comedy.

The other part of the Amy Schumer character is the persona - shallow, self-involved, dissolute. I've assumed this is all an act that's done to satirize a certain type of modern woman, but I know literally nothing about her apart from what I've seen on her show and specials, so maybe I've got that wrong.

The trailer didn't leave me wanting to see the movie. The early parts, before the guy-girl stuff begins, seemed more grotesque and less clever than what she typically does on her show. Then the whole satire aspect loses its teeth when the doctor guy has a romantic interest in her - how do you make fun of her character when the leading man is actually taking her seriously? And while the trailer doesn't go there, I assume that the latter part of the movie involves some fanciful stuff that allows them to somehow work out together, which seems like it will have her playing even further from what she's best at.

I can imagine Amy being great in comedy films, but being the lead in a RomCom just seems at odds with her style.

Of course the unattractive, unskilled, messy, lazy, slut with absolutely no redeemable traits gets her hot doctor husband at the end after sleeping with hundreds of men! Nothing unrealistic about that at all, nope!

If it wasn't taken seriously and we were meant to laugh at it - then not so bad. Unfortunately, this is the way many women nowadays think it's appropriate to act, and are cheering right alongside. But if women want to be tramps, let them. Not my problem. Just nod and smile when they complain how there's no good men left when they finally want to settle down.

also wanted to add: the part where theyre freaking out when he calls her is absolutely disgusting.

It's economics.

If the producers notice that men play video games or spend time with their non-crazy girlfriends, but not go to the movies, then they have to make movies for single women.

So this is a movie which agrees with the thoughts of these single women. "I'm fine!"

If this is a satire on everything wrong with women today - it might be making a great point and it might be hilarious...

I don't find Amy Schumer funny at all, even the skits she does for Comedy Central that are supposed to "be aimed at women" fall short; this one was especially cringe-worthy.

I saw this trailer a few weeks back while watching T.V. with my boyfriend, and he pointed out the only funny line in the entire trailer was made by a (most likely) side character, John Cena; and since I didn't laugh as much as he did, it must be a Boston thing that went over my head.

Ugh I used to strive for my life to be like hers and now I see that it really just was a train wreck. Aptly titled movie. All of its jokes have been done to death and I think it will do poorly in theaters. I think it's funny how even though the protagonist champions the way she lives, the movie is called "Train Wreck" and we all know she is going to fall in love at the end. So I guess her life style really wasn't working out for her?

This is hilarious because I just got invited to go see this with a friend and her group of friends. I'd never heard of Amy Schumer before and they were all going on about how funny she is. I watched the trailer and yup, not funny. She reminds me of Chelsea Handler.

I'm really tired of this fable in movies about how a woman can be as unappealing as possible but some great guy sees her "inner beauty" and brings it out to the surface. Where are the movies about male characters being disgusting and unappealing but an awesome woman comes by and sees him for his husband material? Oh right, they don't make movies like that...because it's ridiculous.

I think she's pretty funny, not always but a lot of the time.

I don't think slapstick/stand-up comedy is really meant to teach moral life and relationship lessons, it's not that serious it's just meant to be funny. You could easily pick apart male comedian's bits (jim gaffigan glorifies junk food and obesity is a major problem, etc.).

I think if you take comedy really seriously you probably just don't like or understand the genre. I like Melissa McCarthy too. I think she's pretty hilarious.

Now Lena Dunham, that's someone I take issue with because she presents herself (in interviews, etc.) as a serious writer who is the voice of a generation of women. She's also talentless, self-absorbed, and from a pampered ultra-rich background. She got everything by having family connections, never worked in the real world, and has the audacity to act as if she understands anything about real life.

Uggggggh please don't get me started. The trailer sickened me. I love how if you listen carefully you can tell that she's lying to herself about being happy. For one she's drunk all the time and if she was happy she wouldn't feel the need to yell at every one about how great her life is. And as for not wanting monogamy? Pfffffft until the end when the sports doctor comes around and hypergamy is unleashed. Train wreck indeed.

Amy Schumer is just awful, unfunny, and unattractive. She kind of falls in line with Lena Dunham in my opinion, a totally blue pill pair of unfunny Hollywood feminists who normalize being slutty, overweight, and rude to their men.
