I'm not gonna say that my opinion on this matter carries more weight because I'm black; I'm just gonna say that Reilly's feelings echo my own.

[–]AboveAFC26 points 13 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

Since you are black, I'd like your take on something if you have the time.

A few years ago, a black friend of mine from university blew my mind. We were discussing politics and things shifted to race issues. I was doing the standard "white guilt" thing of dancing around the issues of slavery, poverty, and education when he told me all of that was BS.

He told me he felt the issues of the black community were directly tied to slavery, but not in the way I thought. He told me he felt it was because every black man knew not to let them self become a slave to anyone, no matter how little it seems. He said he felt this feeling eventually came to include "slavery" to women. They held all the cards back in the day. They want to stay home and take care of babies all day and hang out with their friends while they send their man out to "slave away".

So he claims this is why black men began to "opt out" of marriage. If any woman tried to tie a man down, he bolted. He told me that that same thing is heading for the white man as women continue to raise in power, so I'd better watch out. He said it's just that "white guys" don't have a tradition of equating work with slavery, so we still keep "slaving away".

He claims the "powers that be" realize that black men were jumping out of the system, and he felt all the things like the "war on drugs" were implemented to punish them for doing whatever they feel like vs working for the traditional family unit and "society".

I had never heard this view before, and I must admit it blew my mind and was one of the large points on my way to "red pill" understanding. I would be very interested to hear your take on this theory or how you feel about being a "slave" to women. Is that really something black men think?

I've always thought black men tend to be more red pill. This friend's comments make me feel like this might be a side effect of gaining their freedom and despising slavery.

Thanks feminism/pseudo-intellectualism!

[–]SoullessVagrant7 points 13 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

It's an interesting viewpoint, but the idea of never becoming subservient to anyone never struck me as being race-specific.

[–]TheOneUpper 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm black and I find that viewpoint interesting as well. I also agree with everything O'Reilly said to the letter.

I, as well as most of my urban black friends, despise being subservient in any capacity. It is possible that, if you are not black, it never struck you as race specific because the issues that affect black people don't apply to you, most of all slavery.

[–]capitan_caverna 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

sire, be careful when making assumptions. just because the slavery that you were taught was about black folk, doesn't mean that all slavery was around black people. I'm here to tell you, men has been slave since men existed. black, white, yellow, purple and blue. they all have been slaves one time or another, to one race or another. it's just how the ancient world operated. it's not, and was not, a privilege of the black kind to be slave. it wasn't about color but about strength. in fact, white men didn't went inside Africa to slave black men as you seen to believe. strong, corrupt, black men, rounded and captured, weaker black men and sold to white men in the shores.

[–]AboveAFC1 point 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Thanks for the reply.

I know most everyone will balk at being subservient, but don't most people willingly let themselves serve their families?

Anyhow, his take was that since black men had be slaves, they are extra sensitive to being forced to work for anyone without getting something in return.

[–]scooter_reddit3 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Blew my fucking mind

[–]delta_hedge 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

hmm may be. may be.

my theory behind this is so far this (which i think is the better explanation for this phenomen):

testosterone is linked with aggressive, dominant behaviour.

blacks have more testosterone than whites, who have more testerone than asians.

therefore it is more natural for blacks to not take shit from their girls as whites do.

this theory also explains why in asian countries, the womens are one who is dictating the relationship.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I'll buy it. So black men were MGTOW. (Or rather NGTOW?) Nobody was throwing them a bone in society, they had nothing to go for, so consciously or subconsciously, they dropped out. Biologically, women tend toward hypergamy but if you're sitting on the bottom rung, they just ain't gonna go for you at all. They're fucked.

Hence: True Niggaz Don't Give a Fuck.

Conservatism does make a good argument for men creating a nuclear family to sustain their neighborhood. Without that nuclear family, both parents present male and female, the next generation of kids is completely fucked. Single women can't raise kids for shit.

And liberalism makes a good argument for birth control, condoms, planned parenthood and FREE abortions. It's not like the black community is without it's hamsters. Just think of all vapid blondes in the white community. Now think if they all got knocked up and all the alpha whites kept dodging parenthood. All bad. I knew some hamsters in the midwest that were on the low-end of the totem pole (no pun intended). They got pregnant but at least found a dude to be "dad." Both couples were poor and those white men looked like they were pretty much enslaved.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Where he loses me is the talk about selling drugs. Black offenders are sentenced to something like 60% more prison time than non-blacks for the same crime. You want to complain about the disintegration of the black family, start there.

[–]Politikon 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Yea I agree with you that he shouldn't so easily dismiss the non-violent incarceration rate that has been messing up the black family for decades. Also it's not just drug dealers that go to jail fyi. If you want more in-depth information on the incarceration problem in the US I suggest reading this book http://www.amazon.com/books/dp/1595586431.

Now, as another red pill black guy I really had to have an open mind when watching this video because in the past O'Reilly has made one too many inflammatory and crude statements toward the black community, but after watching this video I do have to admit that he makes some very valid points about the community's deep-seeded issues.

However, I would have liked for him to back up his statements with some sources. I'm also sure his assessment of the problem and the solution is a lot more complicated than he tried to make it out to be. True, the disintegration of the black family and the high rate of children being born out of wedlock play huge rolls in the issues plaguing certain black communities, but there are also other micro and macro issues at play here that we really have to delve into to get the full picture - at least in my opinion.

[–]scooter_reddit0 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Well agreed. Especially about the drug incarceration; there is blatant proof that the lengths of prison sentences are racist just like there is for O'Reilly's murder rate.

However, even the most proven facts need sources.

[–]capitan_caverna 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

off course it does. that is why he is where he is. he an expert in creating this kind of vague connection. he is not, nor does he know, the answer for anything. he is a demagogue. empty bag of words.

[–]Fsoprokon 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's the kind of cynicism that gets nothing done.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I definitely agree about fatherless families.

I disagree about the approach to drug policy. The violence and gangs would not exist if they were legal and regulated, and addiction treated like a disease rather than a crime.

[–]rbcrusaders[S] 13 points14 points15 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Fathers are needed in communities. Discipline and order are being tossed aside by feminisms 'don't need no man' philosophy. It's obvious that even though they push this idea that women are somehow better and men are useless, not having fathers hurts children and communities. They need a father for important reasons-discipline, order, respect, hard work and having a strong leader. As great at women are at certain things, they do not have these attributes (with exceptions of course.) Men are what make good communities, women do not have the necessary attributes and it seems like common sense and fairly obvious. However, gender politics gets in the way and instead we have a focus on feelings which gets us to the point we are at now. The communities are falling apart.

Feminists need to realize and realize QUICKLY that men are vital to a good society, toss aside their pride and failed beliefs and work towards making our society strong and great as it once was. With women in charge, we see chaos and weakness.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Having parents with a strong work ethic and a that can provide a good moral compass for their children is definitely essential. However, you would be wrong to think that parents of children that become criminals are either absent or set a bad example. Communities themselves have an enormous influence on children, and a bad community can easily offset good parenting regardless of the majority race/ethnicity of the community. Downvote this comment if you will, but it comes from personal experience.

Regardless of that, there's much more going on in this video than a discussion on the importance of fathers.

[–]SpinalArt 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Reilly touches on this point by pointing out that hollywood and entertainers are glorified while impressionable children are left to destroy themselves living out the lyrics. I think I speak for most of us men when I say we don't watch tv often because of the garbage that is on there. WE, as men, need to speak and act on that issue because ultimately it affects us. Feminism, media and the court system are all in the way of us men creating better COMMUNITIES for our families to grow in. People are throwing around the "popping a molly" phrase because it's cool. Theres part of your drug problem there.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think I speak for most of us men when I say we don't watch tv often because of the garbage that is on there.

Agreed. Those of us who were lucky enough to grow up in the 80s and early 90s weren't bombarded 24/7 with media through the internet and smartphones on top of television.

[–]1deltron80 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago* (16 children) | Copy Link

The destruction of the black family unit can't be entirely blamed on feminism, welfare, etc. The drug war has played a major part in warehousing black men that otherwise would've sought gainful employment if not for the artificial black market in drugs created by the government. O'Reilly not only doesn't see this, but calls for further crackdowns. Not helpful.

[–]watersign 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

somewhat true, but making filth like heroine and meth legal would not be a good idea

[–]soapjackal 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Filth Iike alcohol. Where twice as many abusers, per capita, die than heroin abusers do.

This is a social problem, legislation only helps the few at the expense of the many.

[–]TRP VanguardVZPurp 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People are going to abuse opioids and amphetamines regardless of the law. Heroin and meth are not particularly special, but are cheap to synthesize clandestinely - there are legal drugs that can be diverted from the market for the same or similar effects, but they cost more money.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

worked to solve drug problems in other nations.

[–]1deltron80 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So I assume you advocate making cancer and aids illegal as well. Good luck with that effort.

[–]SpinalArt -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Drugs and hustling is glorified in the hip hop world. Young impressionable children live out the lyrics and destroy themselves while the entertainers get rich. When there aren't parents around to tell them that this is wrong, those children will do drugs and participate in these reckless acts to fit in.

[–]1deltron80 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Right, and where do you think their fathers are? Prior to the drug war the black family unit was very strong. Prohibition was the direct cause of its destruction. Ending the drug war and removing the profit motive will only help. The destruction is pretty far gone though, I agree.

[–]SpinalArt 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There is no arguing that major injustices haven't been committed in the past. Many of its effects are still felt today and is the reason we have civil rights groups to guard against injustices from happening again.

[–]1deltron80 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The injustices are ongoing...the drug war is the new jim crow...best thing they've come up with yet

[–]-SoItGoes 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Black teens are less likely to use drugs than their white/hispanic counterparts but make up the majority of drug arrests, prosecutions and recieve much harsher sentences for equivalent crimes, by orders of magnitude. The drug laws were created specifically to target blacks, this after drugs were specifically introduced into these communities.

This is what is meant by institutional racism, and systems meant to destroy black communities and ESPECIALLY young black men. Fuck O'Reilly, his cherrypicking and abuse of statistics, propaganda. He pushes the 'personal responsibility' trope so heavily to mask and misdirect.

[–]Flapped -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Is this real life? I took a sociology general ed class at university this year that literally talked about this exact topic and I couldn't believe it. Do liberals like you ACTUALLY believe that the government is enacting modern Jim Crowe laws (in the form of drug laws) SPECIFICALLY to put blacks in jail?

Are you so desperate to find an excuse for the shithole that is the black community that you are claiming that government started the drug war just to imprison blacks? Do you think that the heavy amount of crime in heavily black communities might have to do not with the "Modern Jim Crowe" conspiracy, but with to unfair education, natural tendencies to violence, and the drug war in general? Do you know that in Atlanta, blacks are 54 percent of the population, but between 2011-2012, they were responsible for

100 percent of homicide

95 percent of rape

94 percent of robbery

84 percent of aggravated assault

93 percent of burglary

Source - http://www.atlantapd.org/uniformcrimereports.aspx

Now are some police members racist, and do some specifically target race? Of course, "Cop in the Hood" by Moskos (which I assume you have read, you sound like sociology major to me) gives a great insight to the police force in a ghetto community. Is O'Reilly wrong? Hell yes he is. He claimed education disparities have nothing to do with the shittiness of black culture, that is complete bullshit. Are drug wars to blame? I'd say so, but the fact that you actually subscribe to the fact that drug wars "were created specifically to target blacks" absolutely blows my mind.

[–]1deltron80 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Drug laws were only partially created to target blacks at first, but they evolved over time to become a great way to control the black population. Once a person gets caught in the system and has a "felony" charge, they are prohibited from ever legally working again. Not a good way to encourage responsibility.

[–]-SoItGoes 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also, barred from higher education loans, so largely barred from college.

[–]-SoItGoes 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Like I said, black teens use drugs at a lower rate than their white and Hispanic counterparts, but are the main demographic being arrested for it. A black teen charged with the same crime as a white is more likely to be convicted, more likely to be incarcerated. Until a few years ago, NY's Rockefeller Laws treated crack cocaine, the same fucking drug as powder cocaine, with punishments 100 times harsher - because blacks were most likely to use it. Are you disputing any of these things?

Stop and frisk was designed to target minorities and arrest them, even when it was acknowledged they didn't do anything. Are you disputing that? What about my other claim, that government intentionally allowed the distribution of drugs into minority communities?

you sound like a sociology major to me

Lol, whatever you need to tell yourself.

Stop and frisk specifically targets minorities

On a track played Thursday, Deputy Inspector Christopher McCormack was heard telling Serrano he needed to stop “the right people, the right time, the right location”. When asked what he believed McCormack meant Serrano told the court: “he meant blacks and Hispanics.” Later in the tape McCormack says: “I have no problem telling you this … male blacks. And I told you at roll call, and I have no problem [to] tell you this, male blacks 14 to 21.

The legal system targets minorities.

Something to start you off:

The review of recent studies that follows examines the effect of race on sentencing, differentiating between capital (subject to the death penalty) cases and non-capital cases. The sections addressing non-capital cases are heavily indebted to Cassia Spohn’s 2000 survey of the relevant studies produced for the National Institute of Justice.1 In the realm of non-capital cases, the studies deliver mixed results. While a majority of the studies report racially discriminatory sentencing outcomes, the evidence indicates that these outcomes are not uniform or extensive. The more incisive findings in non-capital cases are the result of interactive analysis. The key findings in this regard include: • Young, black and Latino males (especially if unemployed) are subject to particularly harsh sentencing compared to other offender populations; • Black and Latino defendants are disadvantaged compared to whites with regard to legal-process related factors such as the “trial penalty,” sentence reductions for substantial assistance, criminal history, pretrial detention, and type of attorney; • Black defendants convicted of harming white victims suffer harsher penalties than blacks who commit crimes against other blacks or white defendants who harm whites; • Black and Latino defendants tend to be sentenced more severely than comparably situated white defendants for less serious crimes, especially drug and property crimes. Studies that examine death-penalty cases have generally found that: • In the vast majority of cases, if the murder victim is white, the defendant is more likely to receive a death sentence; • In a few jurisdictions, notably the federal system, minority defendants (especially blacks) are more likely to receive a death sentence.

Once again, O'Reilly uses misdirection, half-truths and strawmen arguments to deflect blame.

The top comment talks mostly how more discipline won't work.

I can sympathize with that somewhat.

But what does work is in tact households where father's serve as authority figures (among other things), the increased discipline being a very important part of that mix.

[–]MakeEmSayUhhh 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't often enjoy content from O'Reilly or his show, but this was definitely an exception.

I'm gonna give the guy who wrote what went on the TelePrompter the credit there.

Good info, drug incentivization was so close to being awesome if fox news could talk about what prohibition actually does (stossel might), structure is incredibly important in adolescent devolpment.

I watched this two days ago and thought it was redpill as fuck.

Bill is a traditionalist, like me. And I share his views. Traditionalists aren't afraid to poi t out that women make wretched creatures of themselves by trying to parody male virtues.

I want to disagree, but I can't and y'know, Black African immigrants who have a very strong family culture and a culture of achievement and drive are one of the most successful groups in America.

I'm glad to see that he's fired up about the issue. When people say Republicans are racist... I don't even know how to respond to people that shut their eyes that tight about the opposing viewpoint.

EDIT: Spelling.

[–]rbcrusaders[S] 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

anyone who calls this message racist without thinking about it does more to harm blacks than bill does

[–]Fsoprokon 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It can seem condescending, but when there's a problem, it needs to be dealt with. White people took the blame for racism because they hindered the black community from integrating into society. Now white guilt has led to these problems. This is predominately a white culture, so it can be difficult to adjust to, but that's no excuse.

Either you contribute to society, or you find a way that helps others contribute.

End of discussion.

I really don't know what to do with this level of flat out ignorance. Fact is, most people aren't racist. Most people don't have this deep abiding hatred of other races. They may be wary of them, they may feel they need protection from them so they band together on the differences they have from, say, the inner ghetto youth, as if they exemplify what being black is.

They do this, though, because they can't put their feelings into words. So they express a negative emotion as hate, because hate is comfortable, it's understandable, it's black and white. They don't have to think about the issue anymore. But ask most what they really feel and they would say they don't actually hate other races. This applies to all races.

What you're seeing here in Bill's speech is a father type relationship to black people. Yes, it can be offensive, if you want it to be. Echoes of the past? Yes, perhaps. Bill, though, doesn't hate black people. He considers their children, well, CHILDREN. He made no distinction between my children or his children, as they are all... children.

Bill, and a lot of leading conservatives, do actually want to help black people, and have absolutely no problem, whatsoever, with working with or being friends with a black person. They're very paternal, though, which is fine. Sometimes you have to take somebody by the hand. I would only hope our black neighbors, human beings, would do the same for us were we, of any race, to stumble.

It's strange I find myself agreeing with anything O'Reilly says but this is it right here. This is the truth.

I'm not home right now, so I can't research the issue, but his point about the destruction of the black family is interesting to me.

The questions I would pose would be something like "Are black families in more disarray now than in the past?"

The next question would be "Are crime statistics more heavily dominated by African Americans than they were in the past?"

From what I've read and learned, I have a hunch that things have always been this bad for black families and black America in general. It doesn't make sense for there to have been a generally prosperous time for black people in America and then for that prosperity to be slowly dismantled. I think things have always been this bad.

"Slavery has no effect on the present, get over it." This shit is racist and gross. Black children are born out of wedlock and black adults commit more crime because they are born INTO poverty, it isn't the other way around.

WTF is this doing here.

[–]JohnGalt316 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

you know there are more white people born INTO poverty in the US than black people right?

redpill is seeing how the world truly is ... that applies to race as well as gender

It really is a snake eating its own tail kind of situation, but feminism doesn't allow African American women to take responsibility for opening up their legs to the worst thug trash. They get treated like Saints for doing nothing, but being stupid enough to let some hood trash blow a load inside them. I OTOH get the pleasure of being included into the crowd that isn't doing shit for themselves and being browbeaten to death by simps like Steve Harvey and the joke that is the Black church to step up and be a man. Man up and help black women who manage to be the only race of women in the USA that are bigger than the men...

Then they turn around and have the audacity to be upset that "lames" like me start looking around for women of other races since any smart man is not gonna put up with the "I don't need a man" mentality and constantly having a woman challenge his authority because since she probably comes from a single parent home she probably got it browbeaten into her by her mother to not bend her will to a man, and the shit cycle continues.

Tupac eloquently breaks it all down here for you guys

Reading this thread, I was thinking about how our culture has framed children as some sort of "penalty" that men have to deal with. That coupled with the war on drugs, discriminatory sentencing, and glorification of single mothers with nearly no accountability and I just can't imagine what could be done. Change biases in the legal system and social norms in poor areas?

Great takedown of leftoid culture.

If you're on the right, you harden your heart. If you're on the left you soften your head.

I prefer a hard heart. Nature is pretty hard, and agrees.

lol gotta love oversimplified dualism.

[–]Senior Contributorwhiskey_bearfist 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

yep. i have also heard it said as:

if you aren't more left leaning as a young person, you have no heart if you aren't more right leaning as an older person, you have no brain

i dont really agree that it is that simple, but that transition has definitely occurred in me.

FYI, the original quote:

-"Not to be a republican at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head." Francois Guizot (1787-1874)

I find that those who prefer more absolutist, black and white worldviews tend to go through such drastic changes in ideology compared to those who have an appreciation for more nuanced thinking.

The simple and undeniable fact of the matter is this: if a particular community has few opportunities to advance in this society, there will be an anti-social cultural reaction to that fact "Thug life", in this case, and you can trace that back as far back as you care to look. That deficit of rights and opportunity will get filled with something negative and it will persist. The only way to shift that paradigm is universally, as a culture, re-evaluate what success is, and how it should, be defined.

The world worships money and materialism, it's the stick by which we measure all of humanity and it became religion and has spread like a virus throughout the world. It's the source of all human suffering. We don't measure a man by his efforts, his abilities, his good deeds, his integrity, his love as a parent or husband, we measure him by what resources he can acquire and provide, no matter what lengths, or depths, he has to go to achieve it - abilities and skill be damned, if ruthlessness and criminality will suffice. Period. That is the universal religion and until we destroy that false belief system and start measuring ourselves by something infinitely more useful and valuable, this shit ain't going to get any better for anyone. Call me a naive idealist if you like, but this shit ain't working out, and if you haven't come to that conclusion on your own yet, rest assured, it's only a matter of time.

That's not very "red pill", I know. The "red pill" is undeniably utilitarian, effective, efficient, but it does nothing to make the world suck less, it just makes a shitty world easily navigable.

The rest of these idiots should really stay out of political philosophy and stick to picking up women.

O Riley is completely wrong. The African American community is getting shafted by the ongoing drug war, not by some past injustice. The injustice is here and now. Look at the African american incarceration rate. Its so bad that that many black homes are fatherless leading to poorly raised children.

[–]mdhpp 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I disagree it is about the families. He is right. I grew up in these neighbourhoods and there was never any fathers around. This lead to kids getting in gangs and getting into trouble.

The drug problem is a symptom but the broken family is the illness.

[–]NrwhlBcnSmrt-ttck 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The reason there are no fathers is not at all unrelated to past and current injustices.

[–]mdhpp 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The main reason there are no fathers has more to do with laziness and lack of shame within the black community. A lot of my friends fathers were not in jail. They just couldn't be bothered.
