I trust she will be charged?
Wasting police time, libel, outright slander and lies, emotional damage, etc etc. Of course the judge will just hand-wave it away because she was 'having a hard time with her child' or some similar stupid bullshit.

But she's sorrrryyyyy!
"Your honor, I recognize the sincere pain and damage I caused to all of those men who I raped, tortured, murdered and ate. I was having a difficult time in my life reconciling my desire to eat people with my desire to be a good person.
Signed, Jeffrey Dahmer"
Would anybody seriously not be talking about charging him?

I hear what you're saying but that's just a liiiiiittle bit different
[–]FilmIsForever 25 points26 points27 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Obviously. But he's not equating a false rape accusation with the actions of a serial killer. He's making the point that in no other area of the law could an individual commit a malicious crime and get off scot-free.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I do recognize why is it different. There is a legitimate fear that prosecuting those who step forward and admit they lied about their rape claims would stop others who are lying about it from eventually admitting it - after the man has been convicted. This chick knew she had no leg to stand on or she wouldn't have dropped it in the first place.

Edit: I confused this article with another one. Deleted my comment because I'm not sure it applies. This situation is a bit more complex than the other one I thought I was responding to.

I don't see where she made a false report to police / law enforcement. Did she?
If not, then I think a civil suit is the appropriate course of action.

What a strong woman to have the courage to recant her lies. I mean that took sooo much guts to do that. i think thats punishment enough for her and we should all just forgive and forget s/

I can't be certain, but it looks like we may be looking at the resolution of that lawsuit.
[–]snr73 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She didn't. She spread the story online, using a pseudonym. She never pressed charges or sued Oberst or went to the police, but the story itself went viral and damaged Oberst's reputation. He took the correct step in these circumstances and sued her for libel. This retraction is the result of that suit. "Jail time" was never at issue for either of them.

No they didn't. He is suing her for $1mil though, and has stated he will donate the money to charities for domestic violence victims. This seems like pretty solid evidence to put forth in his case against her.

There's more utility in donating it to (implied) women (even though men are victimized too) because that way it leaves even less avenues for SJW/feminist hypocrites to counter attack him for the crime of defending himself.
Or TLDR version; as already said, PR.

His record label at the time dropped him when the accusations came out ('03). Took 11 years before coming clean.
I don't know how I found my way here, but it's worth noting that you're misinterpreting the numbers. The claims first surfaced in 2013 on xoJane, she was claiming that it happened in 2003(at a show that never actually happened). It didn't take 11 years to come clean, the accusation didn't happen til 2013. Before 2013 she was happily posting positive comments on facebook and other sites about him/the band. I think because he went all out and sued her she thankfully came clean. I can't imagine how shitty it would have been for him had it dragged out for over a decade.
There was a rumor that they dropped him after he filed suit in 2013, but it wasn't true. Confirmed by Conor and the label.
[–]Isaiah4verse1 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Wow. I hope it works out for him but I fear the case will be thrown out as they all do.

She's trying to excuse the attempt at ruining a person's life with the fact that her son was ill at the time? What a disgusting human being. We're supposed to feel sorry for you? I hope you die of cancer.
[–][deleted] 28 points29 points30 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
They always make these same excuses. It's probably a lie. I've seen women caught stealing who said the same thing and it's always been untrue. I've also seen them say they've had cancer, which was also a lie. Basically, they'll say anything to take the pressure off.
[–]BetterToBeFeared 14 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A woman once hit a family member's car in their childrens' school parking lot. She asked if she could pay out of pocket rather than have him collect through her insurance. He agreed since it was a fellow school parent. He then called her a week later as he hadn't received the money or heard from her and very politely (I was there during the call) asked when she when planning on paying. She replied:
"I have cancer and you are calling me at my house, chastising me! Please do not call me again!" and then promptly hung up.
Two hours later she called back "I'm sorry please don't tell anyone at the school I have cancer, it isn't true. I will deliver the money immediately." She must have realized that her ploy to get out of paying was very short-sighted and stupid and called back to protect her lying ass.
She ended up paying well over the repair price, and told us she really hoped we kept our mouths shut for the two hours she had us falsely believing she was terminally ill (of course we kept our mouths shut - we're dudes not gossipy females.)
Moral to the story:
Don't trust women you don't know - go through the proper channels (in this case insurance.)
Don't trust women.
If a woman says she has some kind of illness/affliction/family issue/etc. realize that it could very well be a lie if she thinks it will make people go easy on her or give her more attention.

A return to anonymity for rape defendants as well as victims, and an urgent review of police procedures used to contact specialist doctors in rape cases, were yesterday called for...
Craig Charles clear of rape Saturday 04 March 1995

Anyone with even the slightest bit of reasoning ability could have called this a long time ago. Oberst is a rich, high status, good-looking musician. Women have to be throwing themselves at his feet all the time. He wouldn't have rape anyone, much less a chick who looks like fucking this:

I love it that her retraction includes the following line:
I made up those lies about him to get attention while I was going through a difficult period in my life and trying to cope with my son's illness.
"Man, I'm really going through some shit right now. You know what would brighten up my day a little? Getting a rockstar sent to prison so that I can get some internet validation."
I mean, look at this shit. Do women often become massive fans of a man after he rapes them?

I don't know, man. Just look at Chris Brown's fan base...
[–]iKill_eu 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well, they didn't all get raped by him.
Girls' fascination with dark triad motherfuckers is well known, but I don't think a lot of people who seriously got raped by someone would become a fan of their act afterwards.
[–]Drogoe13 points 12 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
What are the odds she's an ugly/fat bitch? Ugly inside, ugly outside. I haven't seen any photos but I'm going to bet I'm right.
Edit: oh colour me shocked! It's always the nasty fugs who nobody would want to rape who falsely shriek and oink about being raped--almost as if they get off on the attention and the idea that men would be so uncontrollably attracted to them that they'd rape them. Repulsive shits. It's an act of evil to falsely accuse a man of rape.

"I was going through a difficult period in my life and trying to cope with my son’s illness."
I don't give a shit that her son is/was sick. The apology would have seemed more sincere without the pity play in it.
[–]vough 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Agreed. When adding the pity play she's making herself the victim and putting blame on her son. She should have left him out of her apology and just openly admitted she was wrong.
Especially since we already know she is capable of lying about terrible things.

I just hope Oberst has the balls to use this opportunity to speak out against all the false rape accusations and raise the level of discourse so we can see this for the problem that it has become.
Girls shouldn't be taught that rape is an acceptable way to solve problems in their life, and they should face serious consequences.
I know he won't though. He'll issue a quick statement and try to ignore it.

Guys, I know I will be pilloried for this, but can you please stop and inhale?
First, for women in particular, having a child who is extremely ill can be mind bending. It's hard to understand, but my best friend's wife literally attacked me with a knife while her daughter was in the hopsital going through chemo and losing the battle. This was a completely sane woman who just plain wigged out because the stress and fear ate her up. I didn't let her kill me but I also understood that losing her daughter was driving her mad and she wasn't acting like the woman she really was. Sometimes we do things we're ashamed of, and that make no sense. Even the best of us have moments of crazy.
Second, despite your remarks about how ugly she is, she is a completely average looking mom. And I suspect that when Oberst was sucking face with her, she was quite cute. Women do lose their looks as they get older, and even more after they have children. And she is literally in the hospital in the first picture offered as proof that she is fugly. Can you imagine a worse image to use to depict a woman than her, worried sick about her kid, obviously trying to smile through her worry and stress, and under that crasptastik hospital lighting?
Third, she has at no time asked to be forgiven for what she did legally or finanically. She has admitted the truth, and apologized. While she did it under duress, this is about as honorable as an apology can get under the circumstances. She did claim 100% responsibilty and that her claims were 100% untrue. I recently apologized to a family member for something I did twenty-five years ago. Her email reply asked "Why now?" and all I could reply was that, despite it being very late, it was owed. Sometimes all you can do is the best you can do. She has implicitly asked for understanding, but not forgiveness for the trouble she caused him and others. There is a difference.
The ball's in Oberst's court now. He has every right to sue her, and will probably win in court if he does. I hope he does, and that he does indeed give the money to charity like he says he will. There really is no winner in this matter. A crazy person acted crazy, and an innocent man was injured. And there is little that can be done to improve relations between men and women by dragging this into a court of law. What is needed now is responsibilty and learning from their example form the rest of us if a purse is to be made out of this sow's ear.
The real losers in this are not the men posting in TRP. It is the women who have truly been raped who will now be a little more afraid that they won't be believed. And it is the other men who will be falsely accused because some woman will see this and see that Oberst, even though he didn't do it, and even though she has apologized, has been hurt badly. They will see it as a tool for vengeance that they can win with no matter the oputcome. And Oberst himself is, of course, the primary victim here. I doubt he cares one bit that TRP is using his case as a tool or weapon to support the TRP agenda, beyond wishing it wouldn't.
I agree with much that TRP says. But the nastiness towards women in this forum is, sadly, in need of reigning in. You have a habit of being angry and vindictive, which implies weakness on your part. Real men don't lash out at women who do this sort of thing. Real men simply handle women acting poorly with strength, character, and kindness. They treat women the same way they would treat a man who acted poorly, in fact. That's what makes them real men. Whining and pointing fingers and calling women ugly on the internet is hardly evidence of having learned the true lessons of TRP.
