Idk any successful professionals, young or old, that spend all night playing video games. I'm not saying it's impossible, and it's probably mostly corelation, but still a valid point. [–]blister33324 points25 points26 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy LinkThis is a great summary. I’d also strongly recommend volunteering. It’s extremely rewarding and allows you to connect with people you might not otherwise meet [–]SaladThunder9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy LinkAgreed. I eat lunch with a patient at a mental health clinic once a week. Gratitude goes a long way. [–]blister3338 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy LinkThat’s awesome. You don’t have to do a ton either, once a week/month is better than nothing. Given how much trp preaches individuality, sometimes we get really caught up in improving ourselves when others need help too. [–]SaladThunder0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkI have been a co-dependent most of my life. Volunteering helps get that unhealthy urge to "fix" people out of my system. [–]Rich77u-2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkPlus karma always comes back to get you, good or bad. [–]hello_im_phil9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy LinkHow do you do all this effectively when your mind is weighed down by life/emotions/oneitis? I'm trying to do these things to a degree, and work harder and more effectively at work, but most of the time it just feels like my brain is taken up by distractions and thoughts of a girl, and it makes everything more dull and difficult, because it's really not want I want to be doing. [–]Endorsed ContributorReddJive16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy LinkMen think too much. We brood. Stop doing that. And the only way to stop doing that is to add more physical tasks. If you are not fully exhausted by the end of the day you aren't doing enough. You are allowing way too many errant thoughts. You have too much time on your hands to deal with emotional issues. This is a luxury. Time is your only really currency and you are squandering it on trivial issues. [–]pridebrah2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link If you are not fully exhausted by the end of the day you aren't doing enough. There is so much truth to this. I truly didn't know how much more drive and work I had left to give inside of me until I was put in situations where I had to really grind from morning til night. What a coincidence that my chronic insomnia issues magically cured themselves. Always be working on something. It's what we do as men. [–]hello_im_phil2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy LinkHow much of that is adding more and balancing things like sleep? Cause I could cut down on sleep and that would make me exhausted. [–]FriezaFrame 1 points1 points1 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy LinkSleep and lifting are the two biggest things you should be doing right now. Lack of sleep leads to more brooding. One of the first things a mental professional does is fix your sleep patterns. Sleep is also vital for your gains in lifting. This is when your body recovers. Get your body on a set sleeping schedule ASAP. [–]Rich77u1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkLifting is awesome and I used to lifting purely with no cardio but a lot of expert lifters do recommend at least an hour of cardio each week. but otherwise you're right on the money. [–]pridebrah4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkWork hard 16 hours a day. Sleep hard 8 hours a day. Don't skimp on the sleep. [–]Shredderick420-1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkMan, this hits the spot. Its so hard to get not distracted and subconsciously i am always leaning towards instant gratification/the shortcut etc [–]Rich77u1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkStop thinking and become more one-track minded. Everytime you do something ask yourself "Is this making me better?" My current goal is to get a career and improve my health. Every time I buy a meal, or waste time on reddit I ask myself "Is this helping my achieve one of my goals?" [–]Mike_34873 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy LinkExcellent summary. IMO food can go into your time category as well. Spend the time to figure out what kind of food works best for you, the best kind of eating strategy for your body type (keto, intermittent fasting, high caloric, etc...). Spend the time it takes to pick out shit at Whole Foods or Mothers Market that works for your body. Spend the time it takes to cook a healthy meal. Eating healthy is important boys - - and it takes time to figure out and execute. [–]Comeandseemeforonce0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy LinkWhat's a high caloric strategy? [–]CreatineKinase1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkAssuming he’s referring to “hard gainers” who have a higher TDEE and thus need more calories to put on mass Just an educated guess tho [–]Skrew112 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy LinkAny ideas about new skills to acquire in the free time? [–]yolotrip4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago* (7 children) | Copy LinkLearning a language is a fantastic one, builds confidence and makes you stand out from the crowd should a situation ever arise... for example I was as a restaurant with some friends and the moment they heard me nonchalantly speaking french with the owner they all saw me in this new light it was weird. But yes learn a language one that interests you, French for culture and whatever, portuguese for brazilian girls... but i also found in learning new languages i had actually been building my native English language skills, plus you do learn a lot of history and culture and interesting people, makes for some great stories. I recommend Duolingo to start, it is Free and absolutely amazing the doors that can open with just an hour a day 15 min here 20 min there etc. you get the point. Good luck! Or as i just learned in Portuguese, Boa Sorte! [–]Skrew110 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy LinkEnglish is not my native language...I live in Eastern Europe, any suggestions of useful languages? [–]yolotrip1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy LinkIf you are European and plan on staying there i would Recommend German, and possibly even Russian.... if you plan on leaving Europe I Recommend Spanish (or Portuguese if you go to Brazil) Beyond those languages the only other real world useful language i can think of is French. Now of course Korean, Japanese, Chinese all important but have zero interest to me, perhaps to you they do. [–]Skrew110 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy LinkSince I am from Romania, Spanish and Italian would be #1 choices, but I am thinking German would be more practical, career-wise. [–]yolotrip1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy LinkYea Italian is beautiful but it is really useless other than to show off you know your foods or to impress your date lol. Spanish in Europe i am not sure of its importance there but if you learned Spanish most of Central and South America could open up to you. I honestly cannot think of a language in Europe other than English and German, perhaps French that has the most importance. So it seems your interested in Italian and Spanish... Learn Spanish first it will be more helpful throughout your life and in your free time after learning Spanish treat yourself to learning Italian. Pro tip, if you learn Portuguese you’ll be able to Understand Spanish and Italian, unfortunately doesn’t work very well then other way around. I guess they call Spanish the poor mans Portuguese for a reason lmao, just lightening up the mood a bit :) [–]Skrew110 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy LinkNot really interested in Spanish and Italian, but they are related to my native language (Latin origin), and most of the foreign investors here are from Spain of Italy. [–]yolotrip1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy LinkIf you aren’t sure, spend a day or so looking over potential jobs you want to do, or potential places you want to live, study a little history and culture, perhaps a language you never even thought of being an option ends up being the one that excites you the most. DO NOT learn languages solely to further your career, that in and of itself will become a bore and like a job to you. Don’t want to get bored, or frustrated and give up choose a language you love and want to speak and listen to the music, feel it. You will know the right one when the time is right The good thing is the more languages you learn the more easy it becomes to learn others. So who knows 5 years from now you may speak 3 new languages if you practice 2 hours a day spread out of course for sanity and do not forget to completely immerse yourself in the culture and in music, change your phones, computers language settings, post-it notes sticked to what things are called in your chosen language to build muscle memory, and MOST importantly speak it as much as possible with a native if you can find one, seems daunting and embarrassing but in time you will surprise yourself, i know i sure did. [–]Fapisluv1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkGerman is a very good language to learn, even on a basic speaking level. French is good too if your country is in the EU. [–]dick-fury2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkI find audible a great alternative to Kindle. Most books are really well narrated and is perfect while traveling or when performing mindless repetitive daily chores. [–]abhishek91291 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkThis is an awesome post. I do all those things.... And it all coming from another TRP guy just makes it even more special. Cheers!!!! [–]oklivred 1 points1 points1 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy LinkAny tips on learning to design user interfaces? [–]d0lphinsex0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy LinkLook up on Udemy then torrent it (or pay it). [–]UnstoppableMelody1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkI think there may be a difference between "want" and "want to do". If you pick an activity from above, do you want it or do you want to do it? Might be interesting to see them synchronized, for lack of a better term. [–]NoMoreMrNiceGuy95 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkAnother great post on this sub. Thanks, OP. [–]Rabbit-Punch0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkLIFT READ MEDITATE. WORK ON YOURSELF [–]lukasben1010 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkBy far the best post ever submitted here. A big personal thanks. [–]JinxedSphinx0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkWhat version of Meditations did you read? I see their are multiple versions online and was wondering if it mattered which edition I got. [–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy LinkHow do recommend getting started with meditating and mindfullness? [–]DeadPisces0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkAwesome post! Amazing how many of my younger and middle-aged co-workers/friends who are married make comments about how lucky I am to have the time to work-out, disc golf, hike, etc. whenever I want. I'll gently remind them that it's about choices and discipline. I also agree and cannot stress enough how important good sleep hygiene is to overall health and mood. Most folks I know choose to waste so much time then complain about not living the life they want. [–]fartingaround0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkI actually started reading the Marcus Aurelius Meditations recently, what a coincidence [–]TRPmc1170 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link+1 for Kindle app on the phone. A lot of people don't even realize it exists. Been reading on my phone for years and I finish books a lot faster when I always have one available for a lunchtime reading session, bathroom breaks, etc. [–]skillsmcgee10 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link I find meditation to be the ultimate source of frame correction. It’s an opportunity for self reflection, acceptance, and change. How can you accomplish self reflection, acceptance, and change when you're supposed to empty your mind during meditation? What's the difference between your kind of meditation, and brooding with your eyes closed? [–]GarytheGreat123 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkThis post is pretty much a great summary of the Red Pill tenets [–]DaftOdyssey-4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy LinkRegarding books, I already read books from studying for classes. But for self improvement books, could I just listen to audiobooks while I'm working out? [–]Ryujehong60 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy LinkI’m in sales and read books about human nature and influencing persuading negotiation story telling you name it. These books tend to be rather dry to sit down and read, I read philosophy but listen to audiobooks. Check out How to win friends and influence people, Influence the psychology of persuasion and all the red pill books like 48 Laws. I even recommend you listen to sales books or at least The Charisma Myth. Or read Drive, a memoir, etc. [–]redblueninja 1 points1 points1 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy LinkNever split the difference is a great book too [–]darkgojira0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkAudiobooks are great, I have a long commute and go thru most of my books on the road or during flights. I highly recommend them if you feel you have trouble finding time to read. They are just as informative as sitting down and reading, as long as you give it your attention. If your mind wanders of from time to time, just hit the 30sec rewind, just like rereading a paragraph you skimmed. However listening to audiobooks while working out may be too tough to focus. I've tried it and have ended up listening to the same chapter again because I forgot what was going on. I've found that listening during chores, commuting, or walking is much easier to pay attention. [–]zattraction-2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy LinkWhat a shit workout that'd be [–]DaftOdyssey0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy LinkI mean I really don't have much time left as I also work full time. Or should I just use some of my weekend time to read instead of during the weekdays? [–]zattraction1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy LinkI guess it depends on how important reading is for you. You have 24hours every day that you decide to allocate to different things. If reading can't make it in for now, that's fine, but don't ruin the two hours you spend at the gym by having your mind somewhere else. Focus on your workout or you will be pretty much wasting your time at the gym! Browse all authors © TheRedArchive 2026. All rights reserved.created by /u/dream-hunter
