They probably called her bossy #banbossy

There is a thread on /r/technology http://redditlog.com/snapshots/376981 with pretty much redpill comments. They don't believe her or are at least skeptic. Maybe that will turn around once another sub takes an interest.

Also in that thread: http://i.imgur.com/N6Poz2B.jpg A different take to the story.

[–]watersign[S] 14 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

haha, classic. Why anyone hires women these days is BEYOND me..most of them are exactly what this cunt is about..lying, manipulative, counterproductive.

[–]redpillshadow 19 points20 points21 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because they have to. In Europe quotas for women in board positions are popping up. Praise the dead weight.

Horvath’s departure puts a huge dent in GitHub's women-friendly reputation

And for PR. They want a women friendly image or at least fear the opposite, especially if your profits are based on ads. A big reason why reddit treats SRS the way they are treating them. Look anti-feminist and half your clients won't place ads anymore.

[–]watersign[S] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The leaders at Github must be hamstering hard at the moment. I feel for them.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Who tends to conduct the hiring process at most companies? The phone screens, choosing which applicants get passed on / dumped, the first interview, etc etc - it's all women in most major companies. Women and men who never got beyond these low powered HR positions, meaning they are most likely very BP.

And then, who tends to apply better in these circumstances? College graduates are 60% female, and the company is likely under pressure to hire women anyway. Women tend to do better at gamifying these social constructs, like college and whatnot, to produce better meaningless numbers (aka, she will have a bunch of "president of this, co-chair of that, dean's list) etc and other bullshit resume fluffers.

Which of course, you or I would promptly discard, but recall that the people giving her application a first glance are women. The cycle continues.

The only way you can work in a all male office is if you get into a hard-tech startup, like Wayze for example (a bunch of nerdy israeli guys, in 2 years produced a company Google bought for 2 billion). When a company goes big, it has to bring in the fluff. It happens 100% of the time, no matter how RP the CEO might be.

A fantastic read about this is "The Difference Between God and Larry Ellison: Larry Ellison doesn't think he's God." The gist is that LE is you're ultimate dickhole, egotistical CEO who makes Steve Jobs's infamous raging years look like a breeze. He does this out of a deep seeded need to maintain an efficient workplace. To combat the cancerous growth of HR, constant legal battles with rivals, press bullshit, and incompetents in his own company, he had to become a caricature of the opposite. To fight off the neutered female environment where progress was less important that security / protecting everyone's feelings, Ellison evolved to become the exact opposite of them.

I once had a female in HR quiz me about how timesharing and multitasking works for the Linux kernel, LOL.

She didn't even know what 'Linux' or 'kernel' is when I asked her to clarify on a question. Hell, she doesn't even know what the purpose of an operating system is.

The true wonders of affirmative action.

[–]1FloranHunter 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wonder if there's a single HR person anywhere that knows the answer.

[–]kratol5 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Wayze

Waze was started in 2008, acquired in 2013, so it's a 5 year timeline. I wish it was only 2 years. Only recent company I know of that approaches that timeline is Nest.

Money and status attracts fierce alpha females driven to secure those resources. These females are socially adept, smart, and know how to use their vagina to maximum effect.

The Silicon Valley Nerd Betas don't stand a chance.

I'm just wondering how long it'll take these women to destroy the entire industry in an attempt to siphon off all its wealth.

The only thing protecting these companies is keeping them engineer heavy. As soon as they let "marketers" and other useless staff in, everything will crumble.

[–]dsav2 33 points34 points35 points 12 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

I work in the software field. Since we can't hire women as programmers (since there is a huge shortage of them), we overcompensate by hiring a lot of women in HR/marketing .

It's crazy how the programmers work 3x as much, while these HR and marketing people are chatting about their love lives at work.

People in HR have no idea how lucky they have it. This is where companies stock up on affirmative action hires, since it's a job that anyone can do.

[–]sorryimachampion 29 points29 points29 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Also worth noting that she was a designer not a developer. I work on a team with 8 guys, 3 girls... All the girls are designers

[–]bonekeeper 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I've been a professional programmer for the last 14 years and I'm yet to see a good female programmer personally. They exist, they are just so rare they are like digital unicorns.

[–]xandel434 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I personally know of one. I've been a programmer for about 4-5 years. She is an absolute beast coding. Even better than a lot of the guys I know. She is definitely a unicorn. Most female programmers I know can't code for shit and they get away with putting up bad/mediocre code that barely works. Amazes me.

[–]bonekeeper 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Heh. When I was like 16 years old, this co-worker of mine (who was around 23-24 years old at the time, if I had to guess) drove to my house in a Sunday to ask me for help with some simple CSS stuff she had to deliver the next day... and her fiance came with her, which now I can only assume was the fiance's idea of making sure she wasn't cheating or something like that. That was the first time I had a "programmer" female co-worker and it did left me with a long-lasting impression.

[–]bonekeeper 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just remembered another story - my older brother used to work at a "software factory" whose main client was the 3rd largest Brazilian telecom company at the time. He once showed me some code from a chick that worked there (at the telecom) - she didn't know how to make "negative IFs" like

if (!condition) { ... }

So her code was full of

if (condition) { // } else { ... }

ULTRA FACEPALM. She must have been pretty hot to get away with shit like this.

[–]5 Endorsed ContributorStayinghereforreal 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's crazy how the programmers work 3x as much, while these HR and marketing people are chatting about their love lives at work.

This is why you outsource the hell out of soft-management crap like that. Wherever possible, outsource the legal, HR, and other stuff that always attracts the liberal art undergraduate majors and simpering graduate degree programs like law, MBA-marketing/HR, etc.

[–][deleted] 12 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]bjorgein -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Easy there, he's just saying that soft-management jobs are more likely to be automated/outsourced due to the nature of work. Its pretty obvious that demand for human legal services is on the decline. Meanwhile demand for programmers/engineers has never been higher.

[–]suscitare 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is fucken outrageous.

[–]foghorn1920 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

There's no way bitches can destroy the tech industry. They can destroy individual tech companies, but the industry as a whole is good at surviving and recovering from failures.

For every company like Github bending over as feminists approach with strap-ons at the ready, there are a dozen small comapnies acutely aware of the toxicity of the cunts for business.

Engineers, solid marketing and sales people are the lifeblood of tech industry. Feminists are wearing out their welcome fast.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't forget outsourcing. This really is not a time for feminist friction in the software industry

[–]watersign[S] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think they can outright destroy it, most of these tech companies need developers and most developers, atleast the ones capable of doing high level work are NOT women.

It means sexually attractive and intelligent women using their superior social (hierarchy) skills (in comparison to most men) to play politics and use sexually disadvantaged men to extract undue resources from an organization.

Shit just happened with one of the founders of Google too.

[–]VaginalAssaultRifles 42 points43 points44 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points30 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Wow man, that's crazy. They banned it because of the octopus or bc of the word "meritocracy"?

[–]PolegarVermelho22 points 12 years ago* [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

Meritocracy [1]. That word is threating to their BS, as it implies that one can achieve things if he applies himself.

It's funny because writing code is some of the most meritocratic things that one can do: the computer doesn't care about your gender, sexual orientation, body fat or ugliness. Ship good code and that's it.

[1] http://readwrite.com/2014/01/24/github-meritocracy-rug

[–]SigmaMu 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

the computer doesn't care about your gender, sexual orientation, body fat or ugliness.

Reminds me of C+=. Whatever happened with that?

[–]PolegarVermelho5 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Unfortunately, Github banned the repo to avoid bullshit from the SJW.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Somebody is actually trying to implement it last I heard. It was excellent satire though.

[–]suscitare 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The notion of meritocracy is completely antithetical to feminism. That's why the rug had to be pulled.

[–]watersign[S] 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

i read about this a few months ago. fucking insane

[–]libglip 18 points19 points20 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They claim "meritocracy" is a cover for that eeevil white cisgendered male privilege, since all people are Exactly The Same(TM). There was a court case: Griggs v. Duke Power, which abolished merit tests for employment, on the grounds that if some group didn't perform as well as some other, it was because somebody hated on them when they were little. Doesn't matter whether they can actually meet the job requirements, you have to give it to them anyway. And so it continues....

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And down the drain western society goes. Very similar to an abusive bitch of a wife, this is what happens when you let SJWers walk all over you.

[–]monsieurhire2 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

On the one hand, "Christ, what assholes." On the other hand, shame on the men at github for caving and giving into that bullshit. If the men would just stand up for themselves and for their convictions, they wouldn't encourage this kind of idiotic behavior. They can claim that a meritocracy is code for white male empowerment all they want; that doesn't make it so. If that IS the case, then it is not a meritocracy. What kind of meritocracy gives a tinker's fuck about gender or skin color? It cares about quality of work! If it doesn't, then it is obviously NOT a meritocracy. How hard is that to understand?

Oh, and if we don't have a meritocracy in this country, how the fuck do all these women keep making contributions to the academic and scientific communities? Wouldn't the men just dismiss their work outright for being the product of hysterical women? How did Horvath even get into the Github organization in the first place? Merit!

[–]suscitare 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How did Horvath even get into the Github organization in the first place? Merit!

Doubt it. More likely tokenism.

[–]monsieurhire2 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Even if that's true, there were probably many aspiring tokens, but they selected her.

[–]pro_skub 20 points21 points22 points 12 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I just read it in the biggest community of asshats of internet, namely HN.

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7405325

To my surprise the comments are not so white knighty as I expected from them. But those guys are clueless nonetheless with their "we don't know what happened, bla bla bla"

Now, regarding that woman, she seems to have an overinflated ego. Here are some red alarms:

http://recode.net/2014/03/15/prominent-github-engineer-julie-ann-horvath-quits-claiming-gender-based-harassment/

  • From the article, she was doing a lot of work to promote feminism in IT.

  • Twitter account. Of course. Because people cannot live without knowing your opinion on things.

  • A series of hyperbolic and attention whoric tweets. Because that's the best way to deal with problems. Shitting publicly on the other party.

  • Twitter background profile pic with a bad joke about her, that's also some kind of sexual innuendo.

  • Also from her twitter intro: "Breaks builds, hearts." Yawn.

[–]cgreenlander 21 points22 points23 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I am a true hacker: I was a manager in Silicon Valley for ages.

Hacker news is interesting when they talk about nerd stuff. I read it every day.

But when a topic like this comes up, every white night in the world comes out of the woodwork.

It's predictable like clockwork. Those guys are all making $100K+ in Silicon Valley but they can't understand why nobody wants to date them.

...just as the red pill theory would predict lol

[–]PolegarVermelho14 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Those guys are all making $100K+ in Silicon Valley but they can't understand why nobody wants to date them.

No worries, they're going to fly post-wall NYC women to SV. http://sfist.com/2014/03/04/new_startup_wants_to_create_sf-nyc.php

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Those guys are all making $100K+ in Silicon Valley but they can't understand why nobody wants to date them.

Man, I'd kill to make that much. The cocky/confident game would bleed outta me so much alone being I made that much.

I'm just a po'boy with all this fucking knowledge with very little ways to utilize it cuz....life ain't fuckin' cheap

If making 100k a year doesn't make you at least feel artificially alpha...then wtf will ?

[–]pjcelis 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's still a job. You should think bigger. Get away from selling your time for money and own something repeatable / scalable. I have more respect for a guy owning 3 laundry shops making $60K in dividends than the Google slave making $200K.

But maybe I am just weird.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You should think bigger.

I like the way you think.

But maybe I am just weird.

No, you have an entrepreneurial spirit.

[–]bobbyontario 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Being a salary man is a stepping stone to bigger things. If you can land in a hub city for your industry, that's an optimal place to be for a few years while you build up your network from a pool of world class of people. Might as well shoot to maximize your salary to become debt free faster (student loans), and build wealth by investing the cash you're oozing.

[–]pjcelis 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The problem with this strategy is twofold.

First, most of those "world class people" will fade out in middle management somewhere and that's it. Yes, you'll meet people who always got good grades, perform well, etc but as long as they are in the employee game, they are just trying to be a better slave. It's like that MBA joke "are we all just excellent sheep?"

Second, yes you can invest your extra salary but it won't do more than 10% ROI. (If you average 15% or more in public markets over a long time, money management should be your job.) On the other hand, in the micro cap world that is entrepreneurship plenty of opportunities exist to make return on equity in the 20-30% range, if you build an organisation to support it. Can be as simple as taking $20K of savings to open a pizza kiosk, see if the numbers work and repeat of few times before franchising the brand. So the guy at $60K dividends from 3 laundry shops is much closer to repeating his business to a million in dividends than the Google engineer at $200K is to get to a million in salary. Plus, the Google guy will have to consistently show up at the office at 9AM or earlier for the rest of his life...

[–]watersign[S] 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Whats it like working with these guys? Im in training to be an ABAP programmer (SAP consultant) and nearly all of my co-workers are betas to the max. I really like computers and want to move into a development type of role but it seems like alot of computer programmers are just straight faggots. Ive worked with developers in the past at other jobs but that was the only job ive had to work with programmers directly.

[–]xandel434 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are a lot of red pill programmers. Sure the majority of programmers don't even know how to dress let alone talk to women but you'll be impressed with how many alphas are coders/hackers. Source: I've been a programmer for 4-5 years.

[–]PolegarVermelho15 points 12 years ago* [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

She isn't a even a fucking developer.

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7405368

Some guys on HN are calling against all this BS, but, unfortunately, the vast majority of the "alpha programmers" that hang there seems to be White Knights.

[–]pro_skub 21 points22 points23 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

From HN:

"That's unbelievable. I never would have guessed feminists would be actively fighting against meritocracy."

It took me a few seconds to realise he wasn't being sarcastic.

[–]1FloranHunter 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is an absolute delight when I ignore its effects and only consider how fantastic a PR job they've done. Somehow the women's lobby managed to convince almost everyone that it's the people's lobby. Fantastic job.

[–]xiko 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is great. Now he has to reevaluate what he thinks of it.

[–]bh3244 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hacker news is more liberal than reddit and is filled with white knight faggots. i suggest you never waste any thought cycles on that shithole.

[–]fruitofmyloom 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

It's easy here to say "haha" and "women r dumb, lol." I'll try and provide a different, short analysis. The key bits to keep in mind here:

  1. They acquiesced to the female imperative with the removal of the rug.
  2. They "encouraged women" to join their industry with women-only programs. I believe they created some sort of special lecture series for women only.
  3. They paid special attention to the women employed there. See the email where the manager asked the developer "How are the women at Github?" She replied in typical snarky fashion. Not a team player. I wouldn't want to work with her.

These are facts. By all accounts, this is "progressive". Women should love this right?

This particular developer was involved on all 3 of these events. Let's look at these through the eyes of TRP.

  1. Shit test
  2. Pedestalization
  3. Pedestalization

What happens when you work to appease women? That's right, you incur their wrath for the slightest misstep.

What is likely to have happened? They treated her like they would treat any other man:

  1. Critical
  2. Performance-based
  3. Ignored for promotions even if she deserved them

This is the result.

This woman has basically guaranteed that she will never be hired anywhere again.

If we go by just her account, which is all we have, I can say the following:

  1. She may have been bullied by an omega (greenshirt)
  2. Something with the founder's wife who is not an employee (founder needs to keep his wife in line if true.)

It still doesn't change that Github asked for this by kowtowing to the feminazis in the first place. Repeat after me: give a bitch an inch, and she'll take a mile.

That's the other bit: this woman was a feminist. She purposely makes herself sensitive to every little slight that could possibly be conceived as oppression. So who the fuck knows.

I just know that I will never hire a feminist or a SJW.

Female in computer science here. Nothing really constructive to say except that stuff like this pisses me off on an extremely personal level. I have worked so hard to gain the respect of my male peers, only for other women in the software industry to do embarrassing crap like this.

Whenever a story of something like "school gets more girls into computer science" circulates, everyone wants my opinion about it and assumes that I am going to be a huge fan. But it's usually something stupid like, "We created an easier intro class for girls and then they stopped dropping out." It makes me worry that people will assume that I only got my degree/job due to lowered standards.

Basically, these types of women make it harder for the few women that actually want to earn their own way in the software industry. Good job, feminism!

/rant

Edit: I finally was able to find one particular story that infuriates me the most:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/03/science/giving-women-the-access-code.html

To reduce the intimidation factor, the course was divided into two sections — “gold,” for those with no prior experience, and “black” for everyone else. Java, a notoriously opaque programming language, was replaced by a more accessible language called Python. And the focus of the course changed to computational approaches to solving problems across science.

In other words, they made an easier intro class for women and kept the normal intro class for men.

Computer Science is being dumbed down across the board. Some people are even graduating now, without having a good grasp of pointers.

C used to be the lingua franca, and now we have a bunch of web hipsters who only program in Javascript.

Nice to see a woman in Computer Science here. By the way, no one will think that you got your degree because you're a female.

Software design is one of the few jobs that is a meritocracy. People will know very quickly from reading your source code on how good you are. It's not something that people can bullshit in, and if you're good it will be immediately obvious and no one can doubt you.

[–]ejtnjin7 points 12 years ago [recovered] (8 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I am getting my masters now and I can see that the "youngsters" have much less expected of them compared to when I was an undergrad. Every time I hear of a school switching from C or Java to Python, I want to cry a little.

You're right, it is hard/impossible to fake code writing. But unfortunately I have seen a lot of pathetic female programmers who survive only because they get others to do the work for them (either getting a beta to do their work or repeatedly visiting the office of the professor until he gives the answers). I know only one other female who was not guilty of this. And somehow these crappy female programmers manage to get really good internship or job opportunities, so "you only got this because you're a girl" rings true for them.

What advantage is java giving over python? Python is much more concise and almost as powerful. It's poor teaching to get students in the habit of ignoring code they don't understand because helloworld.java necessitates writing "public static void main".

C though is necessary. I'd actually recommend assembly language instead of C because memory layout and pointers is much more obvious.

[–]ejtnjin 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I typed stuff I didn't understand in the beginning and I never felt my learning was hampered. Eventually we learned enough that they could explain "public static void main". I think this is a stupid example of why Python is superior for beginners. Python is pretty loose about types, it has no constants, concept of public vs private, etc. Kids can learn a bunch of Python and think they are master programmers and then they have to learn that most other languages require a lot more of them.

[–]1FloranHunter -3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Most of those concepts you mention aren't particularly useful. Seeing as you mention java and C and not lisp, I'm thinking we won't agree no matter how long we argue.

[–]ejtnjin 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I was talking about languages used in intro level courses. I wasn't listing every language I know. What schools use Lisp for their intro level courses? Better question, what market share does Lisp have?

[–]1FloranHunter -3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are just combative as shit.

I mention lisp because it's the oppose of java in many ways. If you like verbosity and programming in the very specific way java requires then you very likely don't like lisp. Vice-versa as well. Whether you're in the Turing or Church camp isn't that important in the end of the day but it means we won't agree on particulars like language choice or programming style.

[–]Jmacdee 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

C is closer to how the machine will execute the code. Understanding how C flows provides an understanding of how it will actually run post-compilation. It's worth knowing

[–]1FloranHunter 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm arguing against java, not C. C is an excellent language to learn early (though I'd actually recommend assembly).

[–]thatfatpolishdude 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Damn youngsters! Real Programmers only use assembly! Down with managed languages!

[–]1FloranHunter 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Python's an excellent introductory language but you're right, a person HAS to learn C or something roughly equivalent to gain the necessary breadth to actually understand computation.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The next level class should introduce a proper language closer to the hardware (like C) and move on from there

[–]pro_skub 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Java, notoriously opaque? Are you kidding. Who wrote that?

[–]ejtnjin2 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Someone who doesn't know anything about programming.

[–]bobbyontario 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm a man who's had several programming jobs, and at each one I have to earn the respect of my peers. Social proof rules apply. The culture is one that is extremely dismissive, yes, but earning respect is the first step for every person who enters a new group of programmers. The story of the lowered requirements is sad and probably contributed to her being rejected by the group.

[–]ejtnjin 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right, a few of us women who are willing to put forth that effort. The rest, unfortunately, reinforce the stereotype and cause a lot of trouble.

[–]grelknar 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]pjcelis 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Github won because they kept pushing out features at record pace when git started growing in adoption a few years ago.

What happened here is that feminists always target the massively profitable companies such as Github first.

[–]Modified_Hackware 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Horvath wasn't very specific about her reasons for leaving GitHub. In her comments on Twitter, Horvath implied that she quit her job because of "aggressive behavior" that was disguised as "professional feedback."

Translated:

Your code is fucking garbage and is not up to scratch stop talking to feminists and deliver the product.

Result:

I got bullied because I am a woman.

Well yeah, if you equate being a woman to being unable to deliver product. Knuckle down and work under pressure like the rest of us? No.

Cry about it on social media? Standard.

The plot thickens -- turns out she had a spat with the owners' wife

http://techcrunch.com/2014/03/15/julie-ann-horvath-describes-sexism-and-intimidation-behind-her-github-exit/

Looks like a typical "women entering a productive male space and fucking everything up when their feels hamster out of control" situation to me.

Two women, one of whom I work with and adore, and a friend of hers were hula hooping to some music. I didn’t have a problem with this. What I did have a problem with is the line of men sitting on one bench facing the hoopers and gawking at them. It looked like something out of a strip club. When I brought this up to male coworkers, they didn’t see a problem with it. But for me it felt unsafe and to be honest, really embarrassing. That was the moment I decided to finally leave GitHub.

Translation: I'm too frigid to elicit such male attention, therefore other women who can are creating hostile work environments.

Then there's the technology subreddit thread. http://redditlog.com/snapshots/377833

Some of these comments are making me gag.

While tech is one of the last great bastions of misogyny

[–]puah8r 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I was a computer major in college. All the attractive girls I know are working at companies like Facebook, Google, Apple. I know there is no way they are more talented then the guys there and that is an objective fact. For example one girl I know got a D in calculus and had to repeat the class. My friend's wife who is working on a phd has interned at Google and Microsoft and Apple and basically doors open to her anywhere she wants. Desperate beta nerds will look over any faults a girl has who can write a line of code and looks attractive, and the threshold for attractiveness is pretty low. Throw in affirmative action and quotas into the mix then being a women who can code basically guarantees them a job in any high profile company.

[–]watersign[S] 14 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

its going to be funny when a company that makes software for something that actually matters (like flight software or some sort of medical diagnostic tool) ships some shitty code and someone dies or gets seriously hurt has to pay because of this feminist bullshit.

In my experience few women are willing to put in the hours required, and even fewer are willing to sit in front of a screen all day with minimal human interaction. None of the women with whom I went to college lasted five years as an engineer or programmer. They all moved into management or sales.

[–]watersign[S] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. i'm in training to be a SAP consultant and one of the main things they want are people who are willing to travel and work...most women aren't willing to "work"

[–]suscitare 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

female programmers are layered under males who essentially check their work.

Thereby wasting valuable time and effort that could be directed to more valuable activities like developing more features.

Woman gets pressure at work, names it harassment (she specifically stated it was not sexual harassment). Regardless, this is somehow a "women's issue" and the techno-mediasphere explodes. Were it a guy, he would be publicly called a whiner.

The biggest contribution of women to technology nowadays is sexual or non-sexual harassment scandals. As a group, it does a disservice to them (and paints all of IT as sexist).

[–]watersign[S] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
