I've had these exact same thoughts before.

The First Amendment protects you from the government. But what happens when all companies collude to only support one form of speech, political correctness? Then it means that the government doesn't have to do anything to ruin your life for things that you say, you getting fired from jobs is enough.

This is an important issue, especially for this subreddit. The hatred you see from all other parts of Reddit is just a microcosm of the real world. If a feminist at your work found out that you visit TRP, so you think she will let it slide? Hell no. She is going to try to get your "misogynist" ass fired.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In time, we will build an alternative. If you are Mormon or Fundamentalist, you've likely been pissed off at the mainstream for a while, and largely ignore the media. So they built an alternative and support it

How many of us watch TV or depend on newspapers for our POV?

If a feminist at your work found out that you visit TRP, so you think she will let it slide? Hell no. She is going to try to get your "misogynist" ass fired.

It is only so long before the great public unveilings. Liberals did it to disqus commentators who questioned immigration policies in Sweden.

The hatred you see from all other parts of Reddit is just a microcosm of the real world.

Maybe, it depends which social circles you are in.

TRP ideas (excepting for PUA stuff) are very common in christian circles, especially more traditional ones.

I mean, in my real life I am surrounded by people who are so exceedingly different than the average redditor that it is shocking.

Then again, I don't hang around bored, ignorant highschool kids.

[–]Crazystarf 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do you think that Christianity in general might take a big hit later in the future? Since Christianity seems to be an antithesis to most of the beliefs that kids nowdays have, it's not going to be that surprising when future generations try and take it down for good.

[–]jmottram08 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Meh. It's been through worse.

Yes, this nation is leaving christian morality behind, but it has survived literally ten times as long as this nation has existed, and I believe that it will survive long after it's fall.

I mean, yes, practically speaking I would rather live in a place that valued judeo-christian morals... it would be easier on me and my family... but christians don't (shouldn't) view struggles as a bad thing.

[–]tedted8888 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

perhaps I have a skewed view of Christianity, but isn't Christianity bluepill? Doesn't Christianity promote dependence? Most practicing Christians I know will pray for change rather than take constructive steps towards a solution to their prayer. Self responsibility is redpill, putting responsiblity on god is bluepill.

[–]jmottram08 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not really.

What needs to be remembered is that american christianity is a very new invention that by and large believes what it wants to believe.

In terms of red pill values, christianity by and large agrees. I mean, not with the sleeping around part.

[–]EndTheCause 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What people tend to miss here is the personal liberty an individual carries around with them in America. Every person is entitled to their own opinion. We can read TRP theory, feminists can be feminists, etc. Everyone has their personal opinions and beliefs, and the greatest part about the USA is being able to enjoy those.

It gets out of hand, however, when people start attacking each other in attempts to "ostrichsize" or put someone down for disagreeing with them, or if someone threatens their cause. In this case, it's the feminist spending every ounce of energy trying to get you fired for your beliefs, because she believes you should be oppressed.

A great example of this was the debate over Arizona Senate bill 1062. Briefly summarized, it was proposed in light of a lawsuit from gay rights activists. The story goes something like, a same-sex couple getting married wanted their pictures taken at their wedding, and the first photographer they contacted for a quote refused (politely) to photograph the wedding because they didn't believe in gay marriage. One can assume that this is reasonable thinking: you can't force someone to do or support something because they don't believe in it, and the couple can continue searching for another photographer.

But that's not what happened. The couple sued the photographer for discrimination, won, and completely destroyed this person's business. Now, the small business owner is scared that at any moment, they could be forced to agree with something that, on their fundamental personal level, don't want to do, or risk getting sued to kingdom come. So lawmakers went out to protect business owners by giving them a right to politely decline business if they don't feel comfortable.

When the law came about, it was flamed as anti-gay rights, discriminatory, and outright atrocious. Rather than being seen as a "peace-keeper" between different parties of beliefs, it was framed as being outright discriminatory. It got shot down in AZ simply because it would've made us look bad. Gov. Brewer in her speech basically said it would hurt AZ's image too much, and such a law can't be passed. It wasn't even reasonably argued.

My point is, this is exactly what the active feminist proposes. Rather than allowing two people to co-exist in a work place with different beliefs, feminism assumes that you must die in a fiery hell. Being "Mozilla'ed" for the sake of your beliefs is entirely reasonable, because people of different beliefs are allowed to believe different things, but it should not be done in a discriminatory or destructive manor. Just like how TRP does not look to destroy and flame feminism, but rather protect against the evils that come from it. Feminists get the pussy pass at destroying anything that comes against them, which is inherently wrong. They get to challenge status quo in their favor, like the whole rise of "rape culture" and the like. Instead, they should be politely separated and allowed to continue brainstorming (in favor of social advancement) instead of continuing a tyrannical raid.

TL;DR: Feminists stab their ideas into culture and scream "Discrimination!" when they don't get their way, while others have to separate their personal beliefs from life. In a better society, everyone should be entitled to their opinion without fear of oppression.

[–]AnotherLostCause 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That isn't really true though, the government has all sorts of rules and laws regarding the hiring and firing of employees. Suppose, for example, a female employee was fired for offensive feminist behavior. Do you suppose the talking heads and government would let that stand? I understand that TRP is about accepting the world as it is, but to suggest that the current employment market in anyway resembles one in a free society where one was responsible for their actions is a bit much.

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You know you could make a first amendment argument for paying women less just like you could make a first amendment argument to defend firing some dude who has unpopular opinions.

Of course only one of those is acceptable. I'm guessing if you're reading this you don't need any hints.

[–]1rape_is_bad_mkay 64 points65 points66 points 12 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

There is a term for that already: bluelisting

And it's fucked up that companies fall for it and hand these spoiled brats so much power. We laugh at them for trying it with #cancelcolbert, but in ordinary companies this stuff works.

[–]Clauderoughly 43 points44 points45 points 12 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Because beta bitches will cut their own throats (and other mens throats for that matter), to appease feminists

[–]Endorsed Contributorgekkozorz 36 points37 points38 points 12 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

This is the downward spiral which western society is sliding towards. It's female nature to test the boundaries of how unreasonable/crazy they can be before someone puts them in their place, eg shit tests. So SJW's like these people will keep making progressively more and more unreasonable demands, and betas will keep appeasing them.

The only thing that can end this insanity is the Great Collapse.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

People get picked off one by one, that's bad.

But if enough people were in that situation...productive, good hearted people who dared speak their mind, we would be better off. Public alternatives would form.

[–]jmottram08 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Public alternatives would form.

Not with things like the civil rights act of 1964 and the 14th still in place.

Can you imagine how fast a company that explicitly only hired men, and only men that held certain gender views would get sued into oblivion?

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Social codes run deeper than the law.

[–]jmottram08 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes, but companies and people get destroyed by the law.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And people who band together under common cause can more effectively curtail such trespasses. It isn't a perfect situation, but it will be better than random shit cannings and staying silent.

[–]Baridi 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

If it's a smaller company, nobody would notice. I remember a while back a computer repair service got in hot water over some "Gamer gurl" who didn't get hired on. Naturally, first reaction was: "I DIDN'T GET HIRED BECAUSE I HAVE A VAGINA." So she proceeded to sue. Luckily for the service company, they have an aptitude test to go along with the application.

The proceedings were like a lesson in public embarrassment. The test proved she was not only so incompetent with computers and she posed a possible risk to the company's reputation, but didn't know half the terminology of basic components. Then her lawyer tried half-assedly to argue that the test was some violation of civil rights or some shit, but it was over after the test was brought forth.

[–]jmottram08 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

And they still had to pay for the lawyer.

Yes, they were lucky they had a slam dunk case.

Even with that, they were still drug into a lawsuit.

And either way, you are essentially saying that the smaller companies can't grow beyond a noticeable size.

EDIT: I mean, I get it.... but it's a bandaid, not a solution.

[–]Hirudin 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Should be a loser-pays legal system.

[–]jmottram08 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Meh... it should be a "no lawyers" legal system.

[–]Modredpillschool 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is why it makes less sense to make women our equals politically. What's the old quote?

Once made equal to man, woman becomes his superior.

We have a predisposition to appease women, as a species, and once we make them our equals, they do become our superior. And without boundaries, what do they do? They fill the container they are in.

It's interesting how the idea of collapse is becoming more widespread. At first it was just fringe survivalists, preppers. Then postapocalyptic books gained popularity. Then zombie shows from Hollywood and TV. It seems the collective unconsciousness of western civilization realizes the unsustainability of what's going on, and expecting the collapse.

[–]Endorsed Contributorgekkozorz 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not normally one to go into tinfoil hat clad conspiracy theories, but this is one that I absolutely believe. The current sexual economy is just too damn unsustainable. It's building up friction, and as many a mighty empire in any part of history has learned, build up enough friction and the system eventually implodes.

Stock up on ammo and canned goods while they're cheap.

The Adria Richards woman got fired too so she got what she deserved. I really hate professional victims like this woman.

She went off half-cocked. For what she's trying to do, you need more than a marginal joke.

So she "deserved" to lose because she's a bad player. There is no cosmic justice here.

bullied and badgered

I have this posted on the sidebar over at /r/darkenlightenment. Progressives engage in a lot of these sorts of witch hunts and they have been doing so for a long time. This problem could be solved if people stopped being pussies and told these whiners to fuck off.

[–]NoLongerSisyphus 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can't tell them to fuck off, cause feels.

This is actually a problem with Giving Zero Fucks.... If you give zero fucks, then you aren't going to make your opinion heard, which means the only thing board members, CEOs, politicians hear are those who feel they have been violated.

Half the battle is picking the right target. South Park, or Patrice O'Neal, are the last guys they want to mess with. They attack the wounded, who are already progressive.

[–]Mightyskunk 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

He used a term I've loved using since I left home ten years ago. "Professional victims". These are people who feel so held down, so subjugated that they cannot raise themselves up above their current level(Me ten years ago), and so they take down others instead.

I heard a rant by Adam Carolla once in which he described two kinds of people. They both see a beautiful car drive by. An Aston Martin, for example.

One says, "Good for that guy! It's good to see people doing so well! Hopefully one day I'll be there."

The other says, "Why the fuck does he get to have that and I drive a shitty old Pontiac Montana? Fuck him!"

I used to be that second person. I know the mind of the beta/loser/victim, because I spent the first twenty-two years of my life being that guy. In my case, it was totally environmental. I'd never known anything other than to be a victim, as everyone around me was a victim too.

Once I moved, and was around my wife's family and friends, I noticed not only a different dynamic, but also a shift in paradigms within myself.

What? You mean my life is mine? You mean to tell me that this whole time it's been ME keeping me down, and not some random uberforce? Well, then. Let's get working.

It irks me now when I see these SRS-types, especially in real life, because I know that all they need is to be separated from the herd, and they can be turned, as I was.

Too bad the herd is so fucking huge and xenophobic.

[–]vaker 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's great that you've turned. But don't project your ability to improve on everybody. A large portion of the herd is built that way and can't be helped.

[–]Mightyskunk 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You gotta break them to rebuild them. I've done a few over the years. Poor guys, you can't help but try, right?

The only thing I didn't like, is that while I do believe kids are spoiled and entitled, who the fuck made it this way?? People want "the best for their kids". But this is slipping into just give them anything and everything they want so they don't cry or whine or bother me.

[–]Ice-Z 22 points22 points22 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Decadence tends to break down the strength, will, and discipline of a people. If you have the time, this is mentioned in Dan Carlin's "Wrath of the Khans". Genghis Khan knew what made the Mongols powerful(their harsh life on the Steppe) and it's why he forbade his children to grow up outside of the Steppe. As you know, eventually his family disobeyed and thus the Mongolian people weakened. It happens to all prosperous societies in the end. It seems that human nature is a cycle where we struggle to achieve prosperity only to realize that prosperity is its own undoing.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

From tyranny to revolution, from revolution to liberty, from liberty to complacency, from complacency to dependence, and from dependence back to tyranny.

Every great civilization has followed this cycle, and the west is no different. I'd argue that America is hovering right around the "dependence" stage right about now.

[–]Ice-Z 8 points8 points8 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'd say we're entering the "dependence" stage at the moment but Europe is much farther along.

What created this was shitty baby-boomer generation parents who grew up in the lap of post-WWII luxury and excess in this country, and are now raising a generation of kids with the same mindset.

See, the baby boomers are really the first generation of Americans who grew up in this country without the specter of war, famine, or economic uncertainty hanging over their heads. In other words, they had no "real problems" like previous generations. Sure we had the Korean War, Vietnam, and the Gulf Wars since then, but those wars were fought without asking the American public to make any real sacrifice. As a matter of fact, in today's America, even people in "poverty" have an abundance of available food, a flat-screen TV on the wall, a Starbucks card on the keychain, and a car in the driveway.

So now these baby boomers and the kids they raise have to "create problems", and manufacture things to be pissed off about in order to validate some sort of "struggle". This is why we hear bitching about glass ceilings, "rape culture", patriarchy, "inequality among the sexes", workplace "gender dynamics", and all of this other shit. So now with all of this abundance and welfare in America, women have all sorts of free time to whine and complain about perceived affronts, and with a court system and society of White Knights eager to appease them, they gain traction and are able to affect the lives of innocent, productive members of society.

tl;dr - there are no feminists in a war zone.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even mighty Rome turned on itself after it had vanquished its foes.

So now these baby boomers and the kids they raise have to "create problems", and manufacture things to be pissed off about in order to validate some sort of "struggle".

I think the media is to blame for whipping people into a froth as well. I believe it was New Right posting board "My Posting Career" who named the phrase Here's why that's a problem the most millennial phrase.

[–]_and_a_PhD 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

A combination of factors.

1) More kids, especially millenials, were raised by single mothers and who have grand parents that were single mothers.

2) "Helicopter" parents that protect their kids from failing producing large quantities of beta males. I'm not sure why this parenting culture arose, but after the 80s and early 90s I noticed a sharp rise in "helicopter" parents tightly linked to an increase in feminism. In the early 90s a lot of this was focused on females, but now has spread to males. I suspect part of the answer has been coming from the same forces that push so many kids into college, even if this is not right for them. The economy has changed, even though you can make good money fixing cars or building furniture for a living, they are not respected professions. Everyone is expected to attend Harvard, get a job on wall street and make lots of money. When they can't get into Harvard, they end up at their local state school pursuing degrees in finance related areas that will little hope of making the kind of money a Harvard grad would. Many of these men ended up in the mortgage and related financial industries and just took a massive hit in their employment prospects. Instead, men especially, should find what they are good at, become the best they can be at it, and make lots of money doing it whether it requires college or not.

The last point is critical. A lot of boys/men especially are pushed into college and told to get degrees in "business" or "communications" when they have no interest in these topics. College is a good time to chase women and have a lot of fun. These degrees are extremely generic and really do not teach all men what they need to be successful. However, a lot of these men would be better served doing what they like and building a business out of it, instead of training themselves to be salary slaves and hence permanent betafication of a large swatch of men. Even worse, these men get pinned down by a women and a child shortly after graduation entrenching this culture and promoted passing is down to the next generation. A lot of the men mowed down by the financial mess of 2008 fit this profile to a "T".

Not to say that men should not pursue academic interests. I did this, but this is what interests me, and I get paid a lot to do it especially in my consulting business. But not everyone is interested in what I do. And to be honest, someone would easily build a plumbing business int a highly profitable business in the time it took me (being underpaid) to obtain my degrees. You make a good point I hadn't really realized. We are gaining more and more generations of men who only know female influence in their lives. Men who are sons of two generations of single mothers. Raised not knowing their fathers OR grandfathers. Raised only with pleasing females in mind and then plunged into an education system dominate by women. What chance does a boy have? He's fucked from the get-go to be blue pill. I mean...I can't even imagine not having my fathers and grandfathers influence in my life.

[–]Meatclap 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That was my life in a nutshell. My grandmother believed men were wallets and the system was there to support women. She knew it was destructive and unfair, she even acknowledged this frequently, but she openly supported this. She openly supported that a woman could, and really should, take a man to the cleaners and help herself to everything she wanted because she was a women, and it was, again, man's purpose to serve until they die.

Mt mother raised me without a father, citing that he was abusive to her. Ironically she would up with a boyfriend that was abusive toward me, so it was better all around since she didn't have to be lonely and I got to be the punching bag.

For my part I've wound up with possessive doting women, many of them emotionally unstable and abusive. It took a lot of experience to learn how to just walk away, even when I didn't want to because being lonely is still one of the worse things I can feel. In relationships I swing hardcore into longing or indifference, i run hot or cold, not warm. This is a problem as it draws women that crave intensity, and these women often have serious issues.

Experience was key, and my time spent dating single mothers, divorced women, party girls, even a few wholesome church girls has taught me a lot. The sad part is many of them are given to games, but many of them will actually admit to hating the game for it's lack of depth and that it makes predictable churlish "whores" of them. A few outgrow these qualities but by then it's too late and there is not rekindling anything with me.

My mother taught me to be kind to women, showed me to give exception to women, that equality and forgiveness were key. I don't know what my father would have taught me, probably not to eat shit, probably not to flinch but to stand my ground. Despite his abusive ways I know he was like this, but I didn't get that until I was well past 30.

I look to men that were raised with fathers as being fortunate to have not grown up embedded in the feminist lie, but men that didn't have a strong male influence in their childhood can overcome. The deck is stacked against us, it is a tougher road we travel, but eventually some of us learn.

I suppose my hot and cold nature meant that either I totally agreed with my mother or totally rejected her ways. Suppose it's clear which path I've chosen.

[–]_and_a_PhD 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even worse are the males that are a product of single mothers as they essentially perpetuate the problem.

[–]likechoklit4choklit 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Parents are too permissive. The rebellions of the 1960s were broadcast and inner-family strife was considered a bad thing. Parents sought to curtail rebellion against their rules by making too many compromises. Also, we no longer flush the nest, so there is little self training on how the world actually works, and it affects peoples out look. This is a chart that best sums up how to parent effectively, and you can see that parents are just giving too much damn support without qualifying it. High support AND high accountability.

It also works on girlfriends, but that is besides the point.

[–]_and_a_PhD 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would agree with this. If a kid screws up in class, it is the teachers fault, not the kids fault. If I screwed up in school, got a bad grade, etc. you can bet that there would be hell to pay when I got home.

I got a C on a math test in 2nd grade after I told my parents I didn't have anything to study for that week so I could go and hang out with friends since it was spring after a long winter. I still remember it, because my punishment was that I had to till the garden, and work compost into the soil by hand with a shovel without using the gas powered tiller. There was a late spring freeze/snow and my parents made me still go out and work the frozen soil so we could get our garden put in. You bet that I never lied about school work every again to them.

If my parents did that today they would probably be arrested for child abuse, but the point was clear. If I wasn't going to spend my time studying to better myself, then I needed to spend that time contributing to my portion of the families living expenses. Food isn't free and I could either study and be a straight A student so I could have a successful future, or I could put in the hard labor for keeping our summer garden to feed the family all by myself.

I love how he points out the oncoming storm of entitled children that are being raised right now. My wife and I have worked for everything that we have. We paid for our own vehicles, our home, and every other thing we own. I paid for all of my own college bills and my wife has worked ever since she turned 16.

He brother, who is only 4 years younger than her, is a far different story. His parents gave him a truck because he demanded it and are now helping to pay his college loan. He feels entitled to these things under the bullshit "You're my parents, that's your job" mentality. There's only a difference of 8 years between he and I and it makes me shudder to think about the kids that are coming behind him. This country will drown under the waves of these kids narcissistic demands.

I feel sorry for you brother; stay strong and remember to maintain your frame of mind. You have to prove that you are a better provider and that your kids are first and foremost in your life. It sucks that you have to fight such an uphill battle just to maintain a little manhood in a feminist court system.

That's what the RP is here for; a good place to vent some of your pent up feelings to a like minded audience without fear of backlash from friends who might betray you to the soon to be Ex-wife. You need to be able to talk about these things, just be careful who you take into confidence. I watched a good friend get stabbed in the back by a Beta White Knight who testified some about a moment of anger that he had at a local bar. Just be safe.

I'm 25. My parents bitch about this exact same thing all the time (not about me specifically, but the entitlement generation in general). It aggrivates me, because their generation created it by raising their kids that way. Why are you bitching about your kids being entitled when you made them that way? Its like never potty training a dog, then when it turns 10 and poops on the floor for the 100 millionth time you flip out and rub its nose in it. It doesn't know any different because you never taught it.

I was with you up until calling Gen X and Millenials the most spoiled generation in history. That title can only go to the Boomers.

[–]_and_a_PhD 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The boomers are spoiled, but no where near as bad as the millenials.

The problem with the boomers is their "fuck you I've got mine" attitude. I have never seen such a generation fuck the younger generations as badly as the boomers have and currently are doing.

However, the millenials have both an entitled attitude, have never failed at anything, expect a trophy for showing up, and have a "fuck you I have mine" attitude as well.

[–]BroseppeVerdi 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

While I agree with a lot of what this guy says... IIRC, Brendan Eich voluntarily resigned, and so did some of Mozilla's Board of Directors. It irks me that this guy demonizes Mozilla when the company at large was as much a victim as Eich was. Everything else he said was pretty spot on, but Eich wasn't fired, he was pressured into quitting partly by people below him and partly by people outside the company.

It might seem like a pretty minor point, but it's an important one. Mozilla is not the bad guy here.

[–]AgentSmith27 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't see a problem with what happened at Mozilla. The only reason it had any effect is because people started to boycott Mozilla, and it created enough bad press that Mozilla took action.

People may not agree with the ideology behind the boycott and protest, but it doesn't really matter. Boycotts and "voting with your wallet" is literally the only power you have.

I'd say that people need to understand this concept more. If you don't like the choices of a business who provides you with something, by collectively choosing to not use it, you will make a difference. It works in the opposite direction too. If you support what a business is doing, then use their products!

So stop whining like little girls, and just exercise your power. The majority usually wins... and if you don't think that is true, then get off your ass and do something next time so your "vote" counts.

[–]DumpyLips 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

wait why is the responsibility falling on one "brat"? I thought people were just generally upset with what this mozilla character said and thats why they fired him?

[–]Mr_Andry -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're exactly right. His example is absurd. It was a huge amount of pressure for different reasons from many different people that got that guy fired. Not just one person "reporting" him.

[–]Canadian_Infidel 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I need to know how to make this happen.

[–]HolyhackjackSF 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thought this was cringepics for a second.

[–]Mr_Andry -4 points-3 points-2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I couldn't even watch this whole video. It's based on an absurd premise. So I admit I am only responding to the first portion.

Mozilla as an organization has a moral philosophy. It makes no sense to have a leader of that organization who does not share that philosophy. That's it. End of story.

In general I agree that a person's actions outside of work should not be relevant during their work life. But if it's directly applicable to their job then there's no reason for it not to be a factor. For example if somebody who works for M.A.D.D. gets a DUI, then it would make sense to fire them, if the employer chose to do so. They clearly don't personally believe in the philosophy of their employer, so how could they be trusted to do their best work?

And this sort of thing is magnified to a tremendous agree when it comes to leadership. Let's remember that the man was NOT fired when he made the donation, because he was not CEO at that time. The public pressure only had an effect when he actually became CEO.

Let's also not forget that even before the public pressure to oust him even started, three people resigned from the board of directors because they thought he was completely wrong for the CEO position. So the whole private life vs public life is not even the whole story.

If I understand correctly, these people are not making false accusations. While it may leave a bitter taste in one's mouth, I don't believe filing a complaint is wrong. It is up to the company's discretion whether or not they act on it. Honestly, if I discovered a bonafide Neo-Nazi working in my company, I would probably get rid of him.

[–]1Gavlan_Wheel 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, if I discovered a bonafide Neo-Nazi working in my company, I would probably get rid of him.

This is called "no allies to the right" and why a feminist would think it would be grounds for firing you for visiting TRP.

[–]AADisi 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If it doesn't affect your work, why would you fire him? Firing for political beliefs is either ok or not ok. Statements like yours imply that you think it is ok. You are directly at odds with the OP.

[–]hipst 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Neo-Nazi is apparently being used as a way of saying "anti-Jewish" or intolerant of cultural pluralism.

I agree, anyone being singled out by dint of their ethnic group is very bad. Cultural pluralism is great, but not at the cost of accepting political correctness.

Try to have more precision in what statement is being made.

[–]Pharmakoza -4 points-3 points-2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I was referring to card-carrying Neo-Nazis, whose social and political views I am almost completely at odds with and cannot see myself associating with in any way. I would get rid of such a man not only because I wouldn't want such a person representing my company, but also because I would not want to financially support them.

You may disagree with Mozilla's decision to fire this man, but it is still their right to choose what kind of people they want in their company. Additionally, I maintain that there is nothing immoral about filing a complaint that does not contain any kind of false accusation.

[–]Nemester 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If that was applied equally, then I would agree with you. But in practice it is not. Christian companies aren't allowed to discriminate against atheistic gays. If we are going to allow companies to do this sort of discrimination, then it needs to be universally applied. There can't be any protected or privileged groups. Companies shouldn't have to work towards any sort of equal representation of their workforce.

If we are going to have protected groups, then such protections should not just be the groups favored by leftists. Everyone should have access to those protections.

[–]vaker 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]hipst 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's fair. An organization should be at liberty to associate or not associate with any person within the bounds of their bylaws.

And all the same, we can then shame them and boycott them for their transgression of our respected norms.

Oh, shit, that's what Feminist cunts do. That's a hard one to reconcile.

[–]likechoklit4choklit -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Shame, exile, and excommunication are vital social strategies that exist in every culture. Humans are a collection of self interested creatures that meet their survival needs by working together to alter their immediate environment towards easiness of procuring biological necessities. Seeing as the root of behavior lies in self interest, external mechanisms needed to be engineered to bring behavior in line for cooperative goals. Shame and exile do exactly that. It's the fucking basis of our prison system. There is nothing feminist about using shame or exile as character building strategies.

Tl:DR - Shame, exile, boycotts etc. are tools, there is nothing negative in using them. It is unwise to associate tools with ideology and to refuse to use them on that principle.

Comparing natzism with communism.

First, it's Nazism. It's not Natzi like Yahtzee, no matter how many people say it.

Communism has caused much more destruction on the planet than just one world war. When the communist party comes into power, they have this habit of committing massacres against their own population. For a modern example, look at China. How much democracy is there in China? None. How many people were killed so that the CPC could come into power? Many.

Oh I know, there has never been a true communist party! They all did it wrong! No true Scotsman indeed.

So yes, he should compare communism and Nazism. Like the other person who replied to you said, they are two sides of the same coin. But one side was defeated in a world war and the other still has a lot of power to this day.

[–]the_Milkweed 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

If you knew anything about marxist communism you would know that it has not been implemented. So your retort of 'no true scotsman' is irrelevant. We are speaking of two separate definitions of the one word.

[–]hipst 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

National Socialism/Fascism and Communism are two sides of the same coin. They all compel service to some larger entity at the exclusion of all else, AKA collectivism. National Socialism (Naziism) and Fascism do this via control of large corporations, so it's effectively communism by proxy. By this definition, the US has been fascist for at least 60 years. Just try being a refrigerator manufacturer when "Uncle Sam" wants you and yours making artillery pieces and ammo. Do you think that an income tax on wages could survive under anything other than a collectivist regime?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not even close to fascism.

National Socialism had an emphasis on community, family and tradtional lifestyles. it focused on the German volk and their cultish ethos and legends. Mussolini evoked the greatness of Rome. Both stood in stark contrast to modernism.

Today, America's ethos is radical individualism, pursuit of equality and a complete Marxist take on social issues. (Have you ever talked to a Redditor about a social ill? It always comes down to "Poverty!" and class.) There would be no tranny brony diversity consumerist vomit culture in a fascist nation. Private military interests take precedent over the state, and the same companies making bombs also make fridges.

Instead, you'd probably see a praising of the founders, a drumming up the American mythos, wisdom of the ancients type deal...

[–]otiswild 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nazism == "National" Socialism

Communism == "International" Socialism

Though Stalin backslid from the Leninist dream of a proselytizing communist revolution to "Socialism in One Country" even before the rise of his contemporaries Hitler and Mussolini (who was, in fact, a socialist prior to falling out with the Italian mainstream of socialists, which preferred neutrality in WWI.).

This issue confuses me. On one hand. It shouldn't matter what you say on your own time. As long as you do a good job at work and don't express your opinions while on the job. Than your employer shouldn't care about what you say or what your political stance is. But on the other hand, the first amendment rights only means that the government can't strip away your freedom of speech. And it wouldn't be fair to takeaway the companies rights to employe who they like and protect their imagine from the media.

I feel so tore on this issue. Cause you can literally argue it both ways. But in my personal opinion. I do agree with him. Their needs to be a law that can protect people, from being fired for things that they did on their own time. Unless you work in the entertainment industry, where your image/brand is your asset. Than it's not fair for people to have to live their life in fear, worrying that they might get fired just because of what they said on facebook, or who they donated to, or whatever political side they're on.

This is one reason why I don't tell people that I love MRA groups.

[–]COVERartistLOL 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, that's stupid. It actually pisses me off that some teachers have been fired just because of their past history in porn. They're trying to move on from their past and do something better. But yet people and employers won't let them? But back on topic. If a teacher wants to post internet pins of herself. Than fine. Why should anyone care, it's not affecting your life. And if you're worried about your kids seeing it, than don't let your kids on the internet. As long shes not doing pins in school, or showing the students them in class. Than who cares? Nobody should be fired for what they do on their own time. as long as it's not illegal.
