Too many men are fluid with their designation of women. The vagaries of romantic involvement often cloud men's perception of their status to a woman and, more importantly, her status to them.

The one metric you can always be dependent upon to clarify where you stand with a woman is sex. Is she regularly spreading her legs for you at minimal cost to you? Do you have sex on a per-want basis or a per-when she wants to give it basis?

Sex is the rudder of the relationship. If you're having none, then her designation--allowing for relationships that you've chosen to be platonic or beneficial in other ways-- is non-existent.

Remember this: at the most primal level, the purpose of all male-female interaction is to have sex and procreate, or, to facilitate in the rearing of offspring. Don't hamster it, don't rationalise. If there is no sex, there is nothing.
