I did it at 37, next to laser eye surgery its the best thing I ever did for myself. Sometimes I tell women, sometimes I don't. The one I have been fucking for two months knows, so did the previous five I was spinning. They were all child free except the last one, she has a kid and sure as fuck doesn't want more. They can have raunchy unprotected sex with me as long as they get tested and aren't fucking anyone else. At my age having a toddler around sucks ass. Don't have kids when your older than 30.

I had two kids with my first wife. She took them 1500 miles away, the state gave her 70%+ of my pay leaving me homeless in the military, I got to see them a total of 12 days over the next seven years. My credit was ruined, I can't get a passport, and my security clearance was revoked because of my finances, when the judge started me out six months in arrears and the house I owned was foreclosed.

I will never give a woman that much power over me again. My second divorce had no kids, she couldn't fuck me over like that so she and her boyfriend set me up on a felony vandalism charge. I'll take $3000 over $70,000+ any day. Kinda pissed me off going to jail and getting a record when I was mid forties, but sure as fuck no kids and child support ever again.

Solutions to get you a kid to raise: Freeze some of your sperm. Hire a surrogate to carry a child for you. Make sure you have a good lawyer to help you with the contract so that she cant keep the kid or try to get custody of the kid after it is delivered and that you wont be on the hook for child support if she renegs on the deal.

I got one about 6 years ago. Here's my take:

Find out how much it costs to freeze sperm and pay for artificial insemination. Compare to the cost and risks of a reversal. Further compare to the cost of child support. I say this because as a father of two, I thought I was done. Now I kind of wish I had the option.
I started experiencing occasional ED and loss of sex drive after the procedure. The doctors swear these are not side effects of the operation, but I have read similar stories.
Post-vasectomy, the temptation to forgo a condom is much higher. I have sweated a few test results, but luckily came out clean. Be warned.

Edit: Beyond that, I highly recommend it. If I were rich, I'd start a foundation to help more men put their reproduction back under their control, and help with the vasectomy bill would be job #1.

Isn't there an increased risk of testicular cancer? Also, what about your 'load' volume and velocity?

I understand that the majority of ejaculate is seminal fluid, from your seminal gland, not from the testicles, but it must have some effect.

So what happens to my little guys if they get locked up? do they just hang out in the sack and die? then what?

Sorry if these seem like dumb questions, but let be honest, everyone was thinking it.

I was about to get a vasectomy when a close friend got pregnant by her husband who had one years ago. They tested him and low and behold, he wasn't shooting blanks anymore...although it is rare it does happen that it stops working! I was floored by this news. To top it off, they had some infidelity issues in the past (she kissed another man and then told her husband about it and they "worked it out"), which then roared back to life after she got pregnant from her husband who has had a vasectomy! The doubt that was created over that alone is enough to fuck you up.

Then I heard the same story from another set of friends. No more blanks. Vasectomy didn't take. Seriously WTF is up with that...I thought they cut it or tied it in a knot!

I still want to get one because I am tired of condoms and the pull out and pray method, but this information certainly threw me off.

I am chiming in on this because I feel it is important. When my wife was pregnant with child number 4, I got a vasectomy. The procedure itself wasn't that bad, some discomfort, went home, used frozen peas on my junk for 3 days and went on with life. Afterwards, I had a LOT of discomfort on my right side and up into my abdomen from time to time, I also would get a really bad gassy feeling after sex off and on for the first year or so after my operation.

5 years later, my wife ends up pregnant again. Let me repeat that FIVE YEARS LATER. I called my urologist got seen again, turns out the guy who did my first one retired. The new doctor felt an anomaly on my right side, and said that he would need to do what is called a "Bilateral Vasectomy" which is still an outpatient procedure but you go completely under, the incision is bigger and it is more invasive/exploratory to insure that very large portions of the vans are removed.

So after that surgery, and the healing, no more discomfort on my right side and all is well.

As a side note, my wife's doctor told her when the subject came up that out of the roughly one thousand vasectomies he had performed, 3 to 7 of them failed.

If you get a vasectomy, just go all in and ask to get a bilateral. It may save you some hassle later on.

I'm having one in a year. Still got some minor surgeries pending in 2014.

Do it, and you won't regret it. Just make sure to reverse it after 9 or so years, because after 10 years it starts to become complicated to reverse it. By then, you'll be 45. If your view on the procedure changes, just don't re-reverse it.

I got mine last year on what would have been my 7th anniversary. Best decision I ever made.

As a kid I always maintained I would never have children out of wedlock. I waited and had my two daughters after I was married. Not that that plan worked out but I still refuse to have children outside of marriage and I plan to never marry again so it was an easy decision.

Girlfriend loves not having to worry about pills or condoms or birth control of any kind and I love not having to worry about accidents.

I have zero desire to father children whatsoever I can't wait to get my shit snipped. I'd rather regret NOT having kids than spend 20+ years having to raise a child and resenting it the whole time.

My naturally RP dad got one 23 years after having the only kid. Since he's decided to put all his fatherly eggs in one basket he doesn't have a problem not ever having any more kids. Makes pulling the milfs alot safer.

I was curious when I got the news and chatted with him about it. The way he went about it was to weigh all the pros and cons, logical and emotional:

He's okay not having any more kids. He pulls whatever hot woman he wants (I've seen ages as low as 28 and as high as 51) He's utterly convinced he's found his unicorn. I've laughed but hey, it's his life. Even if he continues to sleep around (and even if his unicorn turns nasty) there is no possibility of paying for someone elses kid (a scare that prompted this decision.) Alimony sucks. I MIGHT want kids SOMEDAY, so I've decided to not get it (yet. If I ever make the final decision to not have kids I'll get snipped and before-hand save some sperm. That's always an option for you)

Obviously, never had kids, yours is a different situation. Good luck and I hope you make the best decision.

Had plates for most of my 20's and 30's, I'm a little behind the maturity curve, and when I hit 40 I said "Aint no fucking way I am raising a kid through my 40's and 50's"

No problem with the procedure 3 days of chillin' it and it was back to banging CONDOM FREE.

2nd best decision I ever made next to Laser Eye surgery like the other guy in this thread.

I have felt the same way since I was very young and never had any struggles with it, so I can't fully relate but FWIW here's my $0.02.

Got my vasectomy (laser scalpel) nearly 15 years ago. It was a relatively painless, "no big deal at all" procedure.

Consider this: which would be worse, to regret NOT having kids or to regret HAVING kids? I, personally, think the answer is quite obvious.

I think your evaluation of the current environment and conditions for procreation are spot-on. It's just not a good time and there are plenty of kids in the world.

The silver lining is: an abundance of sex strictly for pleasure. Elsewhere in the thread, it was suggested to not reveal your sterility, which I agree with. But not having kids frees you to get fit like none other, which will inevitably lead to a buffet of hump & dump.

I'm of the opinion that being sterile gives one a leg up on most guys because you can place yourself in alpha positions where others can't. For example, you can embrace your biological instinct to mass-procreate (even though you know the truth), look deep into women's eyes, and connect with them on that level. Tricky to pull off, but it seems women instinctively get quite turned on by it. You'll be a semen fountain.

My situation is a bit different than yours. I have no interest in having kids at all, so I got one when I was 22. It's a little too early to talk about regret, but the procedure itself was very easy.

In my personal experience it is a big load off your shoulders. Pun intended.

It takes away a lot of the nervousness about accidental pregnancy.

Also, it is fairly reversible. Mine was reversed after seven years and I was able to conceive after six months of healing, so it is reversible, just expect it to be possibly permanent. Rarely there are complications, I had a friend that had to have a testicle removed due to it not getting proper blood flow post surgery, but it's pretty rare from what I understand.

It is painful, really painful for a few days, but it goes away quickly. Reversal is even more painful, and higher risk for infection than the vasectomy since they are reconnecting, while during a vasectomy they cauterize the tissue. It's also weird having drainage tubes hanging out of your sack for three days.

The cost out of pocket without insurance was around $750, compared to 18 years of child support, I think it's a bargain. Reversal is much more expensive and is not covered by insurance.

Have a kid he's awesome. Got lucky and ex agreed to considerably less child support then she could of gotten. I've got best of both worlds still get to party and have fun and see my kid 3-4 days a week. Having a kid is quite rewarding and actually a lot of fun. If you're good to em and discipline properly they worship you. I'm not gonna lie the extra 250$ and 120 for his insurance would be nice. He's worth it though. 4.5 and I can tell it's going to just get more fun the older he gets. Not to mention as you get older and they become adults I think it will be fun and rewarding.
