TL;DR: This post is a reaction and analysis of a text I just received from my ex. It's a great example of the mental gymnastics women do in order to absolve themselves of any guilt.

Post: I broke up with this girl about 2 months ago. We dated for about 9 months, and I though she had some good qualities to her but ultimately her bad side won through and that was the end of it.

We broke up because she decided that going to the bar with her friends while I was out of town was acceptable. I just started a new graduate assistant position, and I was traveling quite a bit as part of it. She was a senior in college and wanted to "really enjoy the end of her college career". I didn't think much of it, after all I had enormous new responsibilities in front of me.

One night she texts me. "I'm so drunk right now". I'm confused, I'm not even at home much less out with her. Turns out she felt that going out with her friends to the dingiest, dirtiest hookup bar in town was okay while I was away. I broke up with her. I explained why, made it quite clear, and she was unrepentant. That was the end of it.

about a week ago she started texting me out of the blue. I gave short answers. This continued through the rest of the week. Today, some small comment sets her off and she goes into it with the title message. "Are you just done with us?"

I'm thinking wait a second, you're the one who felt that going to the bar was more important than whatever we had. I was in the hardest part of my new position when you did this. I won't bore you with the details, but she just didn't understand. "That was the past" she said. "I though we what we had was more important". "Maybe someday in the future we could find it again". Blah blah blah. The mental gymnastics were amazing. She couldn't even realize that she'd done something wrong by losing me, her female brain wouldn't allow it.

The bottom line is, never underestimate the hamster. She went so far as to try to paint me as the asshole in this situation, at which point I simply quit responding. My phones lit up a few times since then but frankly my dad and I are watching baseball and I really don't give a shit what she has to say. Let this be yet another testament to the power of the hamster and how women, in their own minds, are never allowed to be wrong.
