I've been on the brink of suicide many times before reading TRP. I still can taste the metal barrel of my gun.

Biggest problem with depression involves three components.

How you see yourself
How others see you
How you believe others see you

You manage to align those three views closely and all that depression/anxiety will fade.

I have a theory as to why so many people are unhappy at the moment in general.

Human's aren't really wired to be happy. There is no point where you become happy. If you could measure how much "happiness" objects and events give a person, you cannot say "a person is happy at 1200 happiness units" being "happy" is not an objective term, it is purely relative as to how you see yourself compared to those around you.

How often have you heard the phrase "I can't believe they are all so happy" from people who have travelled to 3rd world countries and interacted with the kids there?

My hunch is that stereotypical modern society person lives in a bubble which is constantly pinging off other people, and also at the same time about maximising "things" which give "happiness"

The trouble is that as one of the most underrated geniuses of our time, Borat said. "This my neighbour Azamet, I get step, he must get step, I get clock radio, he get clock radio, I get window, he gets a window, I get Ipod Nano, he can only afford Ipod mini. GREAT SUCCESS"

Because we are so "connected" and a "social generation" we are constantly being made aware of other people's lives. Facebook is a great example, you know what goes on in your own life, but you only see the public profile of other people. You are comparing your behind the scenes footage with someone elses highlight reel, and they are doing the same.

Modern society, and the modern person, is constantly being reminded that there are people that have more "things" then them in the hierarchy, which causes relative unhappiness.

We are wired to see ourselves in a hierarchy and react according to our own reality. This is why teenagers can get depressed enough and commit suicide about teenager problems, whilst you as an adult shake your head and laugh at those problems.

For that teenager, their problems are the worst problems they have ever known, because in their reality and frame of reference, they are the worst problems they have ever experienced.

"First world problems" are a legit problem, if your frame of reference is the first world.

I'm guessing most people since coming to TRP have become happier as a result of it.

I see 2 main reasons for this, the first, and more superficial reason is that is teaches/shows you that the majority of society or "blue pills" are in fact below you on the ladder, it essentially just moves the goalposts for a temporary relative increase in happiness.

The second, and longer lasting reason for TRP happiness is that it also teaches/directs you to make actual concrete changes in your life, "unplugging" a result of this is you stop watching other people's highlight reels as A) It's doesn't matter and B) You realise that they are in fact just highlight reels and you recognise them for what they are.

I would bet dollars to donuts OP that your story is not unique, and to be honest if I had not found this place I'd probably be where you are in a few years too.

Remember though that stoic does not mean ignoring your emotions, you cannot repress your emotions indefinitely, assuming your not clinically depressed though.

The big mistake here is that some point, you were taught that a woman completes you.

You complete you. The woman is merely an accessory.

What you should have been doing is spending time on improving yourself for all those years so that some would want you.

As men we have it hard, but as men, we can step up and handle it. The challenge is doing it every day andputtingdemotivation out of the picture because we can simply not afford the luxury to have it apply to us.

Whan you don't care, it doesn't matter and this apples especially to anxiety.

When the situation sucks ass, you are the one who lets you get angry and that makes it worse. Now the situation sucks and you are angry about it!

Learn not to care about things you can do nothing to change. That will help with the anger.

One thing that may have been getting you down is that deep down you were looking at things from a red pill view, but the world around you kept drumming the blue pill into you. Deep down you knew something was wrong, but you couldn't put your finger on it. That's what's so great about these great guys here. My personal experience with depression is that it stemmed from a recognition of the fact that you are essentially alone in this world and the inability to not only accept that fact but to embrace it as well. Once you understand that no one owes you anything, the accompanying realization is that you owe nothing to no one either. That frees you, and allows for a healthier state of mind. Ride on, brother.

It's said that people end their lives when the pain of hopeless suffering exceeds the will to live. I have been where you've been. I'm still there some days. Instead of suffering, attack the cause of it. Attack your fears and your weaknesses. Don't bite off more than you can chew. Choose one small thing to work on everyday. It will become a snowball effect over time. Lifting will burn off that mental energy that you would spend on worrying about things you can't change. It's hard to be depressed and anxious when you're physically exhausted from a workout and those endorphins are pumping through your system. Best of luck brother. Remember that you aren't alone.

After being on medications for my depression and anxiety and going off them cold turkey to see how I felt after a few months I can honestly say that there is something malfunctioning in my brain that prevents me from being 'normal'

My point is all the therapy, self help, lifting, exercise and Red Pill theory is only going to be effective if you are firing on all 4 cylinders.

I would succumb to mental health issues within 6 months without my pills. It's no way to live and better yourself. Fucking impossible.

Anxiety attacks and super depressed TRP definitely open my eyes in the right way and it's like you said NO ONE GIVES A FUCK ABOUT YOU, it's all about self interest but you know what? WE CARE.
