When I was single and dating apps hadn't been invented, we used in-person dating services. That's how my wife and I met. Shortly after I joined I was picked out by a girl who already had one kid and was pregnant with her second.
Obviously I didn't even consider meeting her. In fact, the best word to describe my reaction would be INCREDULITY.
That was in the 1980s... the difference was that such things provoked shock back then, whereas now it's considered normal.
