Let's say you got a girl's number, you still don't know her very well, and you're setting up the first date. I've traditionally just done drinks at a lounge / wine bar and that's it, for the simple reason that I don't know if I'll actually like her. As a confident man who is doing the selecting, I don't feel I should be investing too much into her at this point and I shouldn't be going out of my way to impress. I reserve more effort that for a 2nd date, by which time I know we get along.

I'm wondering if I'm missing out though. Have people experimented with more active 1st dates? How did it go, what did you do? Was it worth it? Could really use some data here.
