Im the same as you, tried both and understand what you mean. I think you need elements of both. Nice but assertive. You are nice but not needy, assertive and to the point to show intention (so u don't get friendzoned) without being too pushy and demanding. You need to find a balance

Your problem is not your looks! Your problem is that you are young and socially inexperienced, that's why its so hard for you to be authentic. That's normal. With growing life experience you will develop a well rounded personality, that also has its edges. But yourself out there and go for what you want.

Like you said, you can’t be mean cuz that just makes girls think you an asshole (not the good kind)

You too nice, you will be seen as a friend.

You awkward, girls see you as socially inept.

What about being you? I’m tired of this Reddit and it’s stupid questions. Seduction isn’t about doing certain type of things or being something for getting something in return. That’s why men are so logical and see this as: I do this and then I’ll get this. Seduction is about feeling, is about making someone feel things they didn’t felt before. Just be however you want. There's no standard for attitude based on how we look.

Also, don't adopt a personality just because you think it will make others like you more. As you've seen, it can have the opposite effect/result.

Try being more transparent. People already more or less know that everyone who comes up to you probably wants something from you.

The personality type that you naturally are is the best. If you play a persona, you can never develop the same amount of confidence in a false persona, rather than your actual persona. Because if you are playing a fake character, you will be doomed to be self conscious.

If you are completely yourself and react the way you want to react to everything, then when something doesn’t go your way, you don’t think “what could I have done for things to have gone my way” you will think “I can only be myself so if it wasn’t meant to be it wasn’t meant to be.” That sort of mindset will give you the confidence you could never get from pretending to act a certain way.

You said it yourself, there are multiple personas which women gravitate to. It doesn’t really matter which one, it’s the underlying confidence that is the reason. So just be who you really are and develop confidence in yourself.

I know this slightly above average white guy who always seems to be with a girl. He seems to win by doing... Nothing.

Not trying to impress anyone. Not singing at a singing bar. Not dancing. Just sitting there, doing his own thing, content with himself. Allowing a comfortable distance until it's time for him to dance or take the girl near him by the hand.

He did speak Spanish to the Latina girl that sat next to him, which definitely helped, but I've also seen him pull a white chick that he did little more than play darts with.

I've seen this before, it's basically the opposite of "lean in." Just two degrees north of flat affect.
