I opened a two set tonight (HB6 & HB5, it was a slow night...) with the 'Is kissing cheating' opener straight from 'The Game'.

HB6: Can I just ask, is that a pickup line from the book the game?

Me: Yes! It is.

HB6: Yes! I knew it!

Me: Well done. I'd like to get some feedback. How did I do?

HB6: You seemed a bit nervous

Me: Really? Why's that?

HB6: Well you were too polite; you said "Excuse me please, can I just get a female opinion on something quickly. You should have just said, "Hi guys. I want a female opinion on something".

Me: Ok, thanks for that, good night.

First time I've been called out after using canned openers from the game almost 100 times. I wasn't really bothered about being called out, and I think it will happen so infrequently that I don't need some sort of strategy to get over it when it happens. I'll just admit to it. Also, in this case, it was great that the girl knew what I was up to, so I could get some feedback.

I'm annoyed that I'm still coming off as nervous, I thought I'd pretty much got my opening down well and could hook a reasonable percentage of the time. It taints the whole set if they sense you're nervous when you're going in. They think something's off. I only hope this will improve with more practice. I used to stumble my words and everything, so I have improved. It's just I'd like to be better at it seeing as I've been doing this for four months now.

I think the comment about not asking so nicely when opening is good. I need to re learn the opener as:

"Hi guys [pause]. I want a female opinion on something [go into is kissing cheating]"

It's the nerves which are the big problem though. Annoying thing is, I don't care in the slightest how the girls react any more (not bothered about getting blown out, or in this case called out).
