The theory is that you should be a self-assured man that is going to have fun with or without the girl. It sounds like maybe you were a little nervous on your date so you stiffened up and the vibe went dry. I struggle with this if I'm with someone who is nervous or stand-off-ish (is that a word?) But the goal should be to loosen up, be somewhere you want to be (don't go for coffee if you don't like coffee) and think about how great your life is. If you can do that and be congruent, you should improve.

I'm having the same problem, I just dedicated the last couple of years to school, didn't even talk to my friends during the semester because I took engineering very seriously.

But now that I'm almost done I decided that I should start dating this summer. BUT I'M Boring. I can talk for hours about college, classes, professors.... I completely forgot how to have fun in a conversation.

In high school I would talk to anybody and joke around, I wasnt very smart then so I'd say whatever comes to mind. But now my words are measured because I know that everything you say has meaning.

Anyways, what are some tips to take the conversation to a more flirtatious level?

They key is to tease her & laugh about yourself. Teasing is self-explanatory, just do it with a smile and good intentions, so she knows you're not being rude. And make some jokes about yourself. Don't overdo it, but do it from time to time. It shows that you're okay with your self. I'm a small guy, so I do jokes exactly about that topic. That shows strength because she wonders that it doesn't bother me and thinks "oh wow, he accepted his flaws and actually portrays them to me, I wouldn't be able to do that."

You could have asked her about her. The goal is to get to know her better by asking open ended questions that can't be answered with a yes, no, maybe, fine, OK, etc etc.

Look this whole method is a little too complicated, the way some people practice it. And it still doesn't get at the heart of connecting. You can certainly ask people questions about family, occupation, recreation, and dreams. Those are good questions, and you'll learn about the other person. But you shouldn't be trying to get at ALL of these things in one conversation. If you're trying to do that, stop it because that sounds freaking exhausting. All you really need to do:

Actively listen. Listen to what they're saying; you shouldn't be planning out what you're going to say while they're talking. Just LISTEN.
Small talk is actually where you ought to be starting off. Like a simple, "How was your week?" is great. No matter how they answer, you have material to dig deeper into.
Aim to get at the motivations and emotions behind what she says.

You may find that the conversation leads off into family, occupation, recreation, and/or dreams, but you don't necessarily need to shoehorn these into the conversation. There are plenty of things to talk about that can lead to something meaningful.

What are you talking about here really? Are you saying that you stop paying attention to the world around you when you're around people? Are you saying that you fail to notice all the funny or interesting things going on around you? Or funny/interesting things that everyone is doing?

Could anyone provide any tips that work? Just some things that I'd think about to help me get in a right mood or provide me with good ideas. I'd be very grateful.

The world provides good ideas if you're not in your head. If you're paying attention well enough, there is SO much material to work with. Silly, interesting, strange things happening all around you.

It seems that you're making this more complicated than it is.
