So I'm at a Jazz club with HB8 on Sunday night. Standard 2nd date game with a girl I haven't F-closed. Everything is going well. Great conversation, when:

The music stops. The band takes a break. I'm sitting with HB8 at the bar enjoying our conversation. We're like 2 or 3 rounds of drinks in, I've paid for all of them. The lead singer of the band comes around with a bucket asking for donations. I brush him off with a brief, but polite "Not tonight man". So then he turns to my date and says "Really? What's up with your date?"

Inside i'm screaming "WHAT THE FUCK MAN - I'm paying $20/round for drinks in this club and you're going to hold me hostage for a few bucks by embarrassing me in front of my date?", but on the outside I brush it off and turn the other way. My date puts $2 into his bucket. ::facepalm::

In retrospect, I should have either just gave him $2 to go away when he first asked or I should have met his challenge by standing up, making direct eye contact, motioning with my hand to my date not to give him any money, and saying "I said NO" in a firm but polite tone.

What do you guys think? I think he was way out of line saying something to that to my date, but the reality of it is that he did make me look cheap and I handled it in a beta way by not speaking up and letting my date give him money.
