Associate their name with a famous person RIGHT away.

"Hey, I'm Alice." Alice in Wonderland "Whats up? I'm Mark." Mark Walburg "Hi, I'm Megan." Megan Fox "Yo, I'm Akbar." Well, shit.. I should remember that one.

Make a point to say someone's name 3 times during the first conversation you have with with them and it'll be far more likely to stick. An easy way to do it for me is to talk about how nobody ever remembers names on the first try, you can even bring up the 3-times rules as a point if you can't think of another excuse to say that person's name.

Ie; What's your name? Jessica. Nice to meet you Jessica.

Make up funky nicknames for them.

Focus on their names during the introduction.
Repeat the names in your head a couple times early on
Use the names occasionally early on
Don't be afraid to ask for the name again. Most people are bad at names so they'll understand and often they'll even be grateful you said something because they forgot your name too.

Repeat the name to yourself a few times after you hear it.

I used to write down names on my phone after I left a group. Still doing that sometimes when I feel I'm having a bad name day.

Also, asking for the name again works great for re-opening.

I associate their name with someone I know (famous, or just a friend I know) or their quirks. My friend voice record his conversation so that might help. He also grab their phone and text himself, "Hey there handsome. This is Derpitta [name here]".

I do the phone trick where I get their phone # and ask them for their full name so I can put it in my contact list. What's your full name? And they usually give the first and last name.

i'm just honest with them. i tell them right off the bat that i'm terrible with names. they usually sympathize and it almost becomes a game for the people i meet throughout the night. it makes some girls hell bent on making sure i remember their names.

facebook! sounds like these people you should know are somewhat in your social circle. if they already know you, you can ask them to add you to facebook, or just go up with your handy smart phone fb app and add them on the spot. Ask them how to spell their name as you type.

now their photo and name will show up on your fb wall every time they post something.

i have a habit of asking a girl her name and blank out for a second. then never know her name the whole conversation... when i number close the asking how to spell her name has never back fired. if their name is really easy to spell like Mia. i say something like good, "just making sure there were crazy y's instead of i's."

Give them pet names. "You look a little like my aunt Gertrude. I'm going to call you Gertie." Usually they will repeat their name until you get it, or you will learn to associate "Gertie" with her real name. And if you still forget her real name, you won't forget Gertie.

I am horrible at remembering names. My strategy is to call them all "Honey." The advantage is that you never call them the wrong name. The disadvantage is that this makes it impossible to look up their name in your phone.

Add them on Facebook. For some reason it helps reading someone's name on the screen in order to memorize it.

I've said this many times before, but IMO, you might as well forget her name, assuming you can follow it with good shit.

I'm terrible with names, so in some cases, I'll purposely guess the wrong name. In other cases, I'll try to guess right, but I'll still be wrong. It all depends on how you follow it up. In some cases, it's better to sincerely apologize and let her know you didn't mean anything bad by it. In other cases, you turn it into a tease. In others, you seriously just forgot her name and basically say "Sorry, I forgot your name." In most of those situations, it'll actually build her attraction, because she wants you to remember her name. Think of the various times where someone's forgotten your name -- were you simply offended and then refused to talk to the person, or did you try at least a little bit to make them remember your name next time? If you're anything like me, you were itching for that validation, so you didn't simply blow off the person. In fact, in many cases, you probably acted more friendly with them. It works the same way with girls.

There's been many times where I pretend to forget her name, and I'll start by calling her "Joe" or something similar, then when she corrects me, I'll start calling her Susan (which still isn't anywhere close to her actual name), and that leads to some banter, which is always good.

There will always be some situations where forgetting her name counts as a point against you, but for the large majority of those situations, you can still turn it into something positive -- and IMO, those situations are generally better than if you simply remember her name, assuming you know how to play them.

(1) make sure you hear it and repeat it. (2) i use an alliterative technique: Likable Liam; Smart Sam, Gregarious George - much more likely to remember this.
