I implore the men of this board to remove "neg", "negging" and all variations thereof from their vocabulary.

I go out in Manhattan several nights a week, visiting everything from the lowliest dive bars to the most star-studded clubs and lounges. At all of these places, the neg has gone too far.

I don't think all of these guys have read PUA-style writing. Certainly a few have done so, and others may be imitating those who did. Other men may not be familiar with the term "negging" but have simply turned to a similar practice out of a desire to come off as confident and dominant.

This fails 99% of the time. Girls and women are confused by why guys (who are going out of their way to approach them in the first place) are pelting them with insults and mean-spirited teasing. I realize teasing and flirting are closely connected, but the teasing has to originate with playful and harmless intent. When in doubt as to whether a comment is a tease or an insult, hold back. It's better to escalate physically and in fact she'll be more forgiving in this respect. It makes sense for a guy to want to feel her up. It doesn't make sense for him to insult her.

In the end I think negging is self-handicapping and comes from a place of insecurity. You can tell yourself "I never wanted her anyway" or "I was just messing with her to amuse myself." The neg becomes another means of shirking personal responsibility.
