This post is great, but just wanted to sneak in a little female perspective about the op's last point. I'm okay with and even enjoy being catcalled - in the daytime, when there are tons of people around, when I'm with my friends, when I'm sober. Catcall away. But you start doing that shit at night when I'm walking alone? I will not care how flattering or attractive you are, I will get immediately scared and I most definitely will not respond positively to you. Context is everything. And frankly, I'd be way more receptive to someone who understands that I'm gonna be freaked out in that situation.

I mean, I like your post, but it's a bit skewed it seems.

For example, you mention that you only started ignoring it after it happened a lot and you mention that women ignore it. You also mention cat calling being awesome and an ego boost.

I will share the experience I have on those topics and it's that I get ogled by both men and women. I just stand out apparently. I don't think I'm attractive exactly, but I stand out like a sore thumb wherever I go. My presence is known. I get cat called by men and women alike. I ignore all of it usually. Men usually whistle or say "hey baby!", etc. Women shout lewd things like, "Have my fuckin babies!" Or "You're so fuckin hot!" But most often, I get serenaded. Women sing to me a lot.

I have a general expression of ignoring these things like I'm completely oblivious to it. I walk around with an aloofness that attracts attention. It's not just men, it's women too.

I don't think it's about the way men act, I think it's how we act. I think it's how you acted during this time you spent around a larger population of people that showed you that they were attracted. You probably became more "attractive" as you gained that aloof ignorance to their interests.

I can't explain it entirely, but I believe it's entirely the way we act that draws people to us.

Thanks for this post OP.I too am a straight male,a bit long in the tooth,that being said I know I am far from an ugly old fart.

How do I know this?Just like you said.Gay men 'checking me out' or straight up asking me to go home with them.I find it very flattering to say the least.But for the love of me I don't know why gay men are attracted to me.
