I'm a fairly introverted guy, but am fairly socially competent as long as I'm in the right situations. With friends, especially one-on-one with people I know well, I'm great. I'm funny, interesting, insightful, etc. As long as I'm at ease and comfortable, I am exactly who I want to be.
I've worked really hard to lose weight and got into shape, got a new wardrobe, took some wicked pictures, and I am killing it with online dating. I have no problem getting dates with attractive women. But this is where my problems start. I can't, for the FUCKING LIFE OF ME, find a way to be comfortable, relaxed, and confident on a date. I'm a good looking guy, I've got my shit together, I have a lot of great qualities, but I come across as a shy, awkward, under-confident man-child on dates.
I went on a date last night with a fantastic girl. I psyched myself up on my car ride there: "fucking be yourself, you got this man, just relax and she will love who you really are". I get there feeling great. She sees me, smiles, and I hug her and we sit down to eat. Things start great, then she asks me to talk about myself, I stumble over my words a bit, then my confidence is gone just like that. I can't keep eye contact. I speak way too quickly. I can't finish sentences and just trail off. I stutter and mess up words. I stay safe, polite and don't attempt to polarize. Despite all the things I've learned and what I know to and not to do, I just revert to this boring, polite, awkward mess who definitely isn't getting laid tonight.
I'm a very analytical guy who's in his head a lot, but I fucking get seduction. I've read books and done research I know exactly what women are looking for in a man. I know what being confident and strong is, I know the qualities I need to project. I just can't put it into practice. And no matter how many dates I go on and how much exposure I'm getting, I'm not improving, and I just can't break out of this funk. I'm blowing it with so many great women, and it's really getting difficult to stay positive.
I'm hoping some people have been through something similar and have some advice on how to get through it. I keep thinking I should just give up on it for now, get into even better shape, buy some even nicer clothes, then women won't be able to resist me no matter how I act. I know that's not going to change things, though.
