Gents, she landed a job paying her 65k/year. we could be debt free in a year, probably less than that. Am I wrong for wanting to suck it up and stay married until we are debt free? i’m thinking it’ll be easier for both of us finically going through the divorce debt free… thoughts?

Texas will be a good place to get divorced. You can negotiate just about anything you want with your X. If you can get 50/50 parenting time and you can even pay reduced child support based on the difference of what each would pay if one was awarded more parenting time.

Yes! A divorce will be more fair in any other state possible than California, New Jersey, or Massachusetts.

So yes! Get divorced in Texas!

Texas will require that she either get a job, or get an imputed income based on her abilities, but set to a minimum of "minimum wage 40 hours".

California will say, "awww. You're so mean! Forcing her to try to get a job! She's too sick to work, even if she doesn't qualify for disability. You have the ability to work 2 jobs to support her, so she doesn't have to work."

Texas is wayyyyyyy better for you. Alimony (spousal support) is very limited here. Child Support goes right off the calculator. You just plug in your monthly gross income, health care monthly cost, and dental care monthly cost. Just google texas family law child support calculator

Just about anywhere is better than California. But it's a matter of degree, unlikely to be some massive win.
