I'm opposed to having a draft but if we have to have it (and we do) women should definitely be included. And I'm a mother of daughters and have a granddaughter who would be subject to a future draft. It's just not right that only men be conscripted.

This happens every few years; it's nothing new. Democrats propose it, knowing it'll be killed by Republicans; then Republicans kill it. The Democrats want to be seen making legal strides towards equality, but aren't willing to actually do it; the Republicans want to be seen as defending traditional values, and (in this case) actually DO.

Curiously enough, the one recent(ish) attempt to get rid of the SS altogether was made by Fred Upton (who became my least favorite member of Congress after Jesse Helms retired), an avowed Republican. Naturally, it went nowhere and died.

(I am against the draft as well, but I see the utility in making the draft gender neutral because it isn’t 1776 anymore and there is an abundance of women to replace the people lost in war instead of back then when the global population was probably less than 10 percent of what it is today)

Ideally, the draft would be abolished. What tends to tick me off is that anti-conscriptionists (apart from us) are only really visible when women are threatened with possibly having to register.

This is just virtue signaling political theatre which is typical politician behavior but is especially prolific and extreme with Democrats. But they aren't virtue signaling to help men, it's to show off their bizarre "Feminist equality" where they pretend to advance equality but really just advance feminism/gynocentrism and call it equality. I prefer open honesty then these manipulations which aren't intended to put women on the frontlines in equal ways to men, it's just part of them building the narrative that they are for equality without actually being for equality. Registering to fight on the front lines and registering to do administrative work are not the same thing.

If you males recall when you got on line and signed up for Selective Service, there is a line to check gender. Male or female. So it is already in place for females to be required to sign up. Trans males get a pass for now. Got to have the right chromosomes to qualify as a meat sheild Expendable gender. Sorry Trans women no pass for you guys.

Democrats just pull a publicity stunt. They had the senate control before on many occasions, they could've passed this law, they never even mentioned it during that time - but they made sure to remove restrictions for women to choose whether they want to serve in a small list of restricted military positions. Democrats just pull a publicity stunt so they don't have to defend MEN from being part of obligatory draft, much less to deal with that issue.

Solution for obligatory military draft is to disband it completely - democrats had and will likely have the chance(s) to do that in the future. After all, they introduced obligatory draft for men, despite over 1000 men got KILLED, dozens of thousands were convicted on multi-year sentences and arguably over one million were either prosecuted or chased around the country as they actively avoided being drafted for Vietnam War. These things are the real reason why obligatory military draft was abandoned, but Jimmy Carter saw no issue with heinously reintroducing it, even though he knew he wouldn't be able to enforce it at that moment... but they played the long-term card, once it stops being such a hot contested topic they'll find some idiots to support that expendable male policy yet again.

I will just remind you all that Vietnam War also saw ridiculous age limit lowering for draft solely to send off 18 y/o boys to the front lines, thousands of miles away from US soil, to serve as meat shield while daddy's sons got a free pass. It's well-known that only a few were drafted of among students and graduates from Harvard, Stanford and other prestigious universities stacked with sons of elites and just about all of them did it solely for political or stunt reasons and they saw no battlefield at all.

You can rest assured that neither Bill Clinton, George Bush or anyone in high politics ever saw the battlefield - one notable exception being John McCain, but he's a huge exception and his family is a military family after all. Another, often pointed out exception, is Al Gore - but only until you see more details why he went, how long did he stay and of course if you try to look into any "military operations" he did there.

He enlisted because his father's political position (and his own future) was directly affected by NOT enlisting. But there's more. He actively served as part of that heinous campaign to draft other men and supported policies to hunt them down, beat them up, impress them, or even get them killed in protests - all for his father's re-election, but he never either believed in it and his daddy already had made sure his son won't be endangered there either:

His orders to be sent to Vietnam were "held up" for some time and the Gore family suspected that this was due to a fear by the Nixon administration that if something happened to him, his father would gain sympathy votes.[28] He was finally shipped to Vietnam on January 2, 1971, after his father had lost his seat in the Senate during the 1970 Senate election, becoming one "of only about a dozen of the 1,115 Harvard graduates in the Class of '69 who went to Vietnam".[28][32][33] Gore was stationed with the 20th Engineer Brigade in Biên Hòa and was a journalist with The Castle Courier.[34] He received an honorable discharge from the Army in May 1971.

Of his time in the Army, Gore later stated, "I didn't do the most, or run the gravest danger. But I was proud to wear my country's uniform."

See what happened to his "military career". He went in January and returned in May. A few months over there, working as a journalist in a bunker way behind any front lines, you can basically guess what kind of articles he wrote while he was there, mainly to encourage guys to keep on fighting or to occasionally support penalizing traitors. He basically enlisted and joined military propaganda, but then he made a political U-turn upon coming home, solely because the audience was so much anti-war anyways. Also please notice the discrepancy, like 1% of students Harvard students were drafted at most and you can bet they also had the same "military combat" like Al Gore, as long as their parents were as influential as his.

If you think that rich people weren't doing their best to avoid getting drafted or that their "pardons" were legitimate, look no further than the last election candidates like Joe Biden or Donald Trump. ANOTHER MUST READ:

In short, both Donald Trump and Joe Biden actively avoided draft, Biden avoided the draft 5 times and Trump avoided it 4 times until they finally found a way for long-term excuse and would get excused even if Soviets landed on US soil.

TO CONCLUDE ALL THIS, THERE'S NO REASON TO CHEER FOR OBLIGATORY MILITARY DRAFT, IT SHOULD BE OUTLAWED AND IF SOMEONE WANTS TO GO, IT SHOULD BE BASED THEIR OWN FREE WILL, NOT UNDER DURESS.

Historically if you were unwilling to fight you would indeed end up as a slave. Our freedoms such as they are do not come for nothing.
As to gender - either everyone or noone.
Also - everyone with a BMI over 30 should have to serve till it is back to normal.

The draft is only slavery when people are allowed to opt out for things like college or flat feet. IMO the draft isn't necessarily a bad thing. If there were a direct and prolonged attack against the US I don't think people should just be able to sit it out and keep their citizenship. I don't agree on using the draft for situations like Vietnam
