He shouldn't have shown them his ID. He was doing nothing that required it, and we in the US have no requirement to show our ID except for very specific reason, of which watching your grand kids play on swing set in a public park does not qualify. Tell them your name, ask if you are under arrest, and when they say no, turn your back to them and go about your business.

If you are ever in a situation like this, I swear you will notice that they will do whatever they can to not answer the whether you are under arrest. At that moment, they know they have lost the upper hand of fear that they use to operate. When they say no, and you might have to force them by saying "answer yes or no", that is when you tell them in no uncertain terms to fuck off and leave you alone.

I wanted him to ask them how they'd like it if they were off duty and watching their kids, and a couple of guys imposingly stood over them and demanded ID because they were supposedly being suspicious.

Cops don't understand what this feels like because they've never been on the recieving end of it. They don't understand that every time they do this, another little piece of America's freedom dies.

I want to give this guy a high five. All confidence and indignation, talking to the cops like the regular guys they are, not letting them hide behind their uniform by calling them out on their lack of common sense and unnecessary escalation. It was a really refreshing change from most cop videos, with a nervous person trying to calmly stand up for themselves while the police bulldoze them and puff themselves up.

Obviously each cop is different, and perhaps these guys in this video are just not as egotistical as the cops in other videos. But I wonder if the no-nonsense, "you are just another guy and I know it" attitude the grandfather showed in this video cowed them more than a calm but nervous encounter. I'd like to think I could summon the courage to talk so bluntly with a cop in a situation like that... but probably not :(. So I will just admire this guy.

And quite right too. It stands to reason that the US must be simmering from coast to coast with barely repressed pedophilia, otherwise it wouldn't be such a commonly reported event. The woman that reported them probably had her reasons - no doubt she has male relatives and well knows how they will resort to pedophilia if not watched constantly. You can hear the repressed pedophilia in the voices in the video. Probably, the cops go around in a pair so they can keep a watch on each other - you can't be too careful, not in the US anyway.

And that "park". It might look like a park on Google Street View, but the guy's video reveals the dismal truth. Concrete blocks, oil drums, rubbish bins. What's in that oil drum? Something toxic, probably. And there's a great blue gas valve right next to the "recreation equipment" and no doubt the unsuspecting children play on it.

If you're so unfortunate as to find yourself in the US with your kids, make your way - slowly, don't attract attention - to the nearest international airport (where I believe you will undergo an official sexual assault; the US is that sort of a place) and leave.

I think the officers were pretty respectful, it became a pissing contest though when they realized he wasn't a pedophile. I would have engaged them in a conversation about profiling and how it's sad you can't watch your own grandkids in the park anymore without cunts calling the cops.

They would have got a lecture instead of me being hostile, I still wouldn't have shown them my ID. When that motherfucker said 'I say my name is Ali' I would have asked for an autograph.

You can't get too defensive just sit and explain in a calm rational manner why they are wrong and then ask them why they are responding to this call instead of policing the streets. I've been to Lompoc it's not a nice place. You try and fight the police with fire you are going to get burned. Just hang out, laugh and make fun of them. They can't do shit about it and if they start getting upset then you have the upper hand.

I don't blame the cops since any report of misdoings such as this can be taken really seriously. I do blame the person who reported it in to the police station. S/he I bet probably feels really good about themselves like they have done something right for society.

Its understandable if your kids are biracial but if its a white kid and your white a simple "I'm [xrelative]" should be fine. Theres no guarantee a woman may be a parent so why aren't women given a stern talking to ?

I agree that it's ridiculous that the cops were called on a guy who was watching his grand kids play, but the cops aren't the ones he should be mad at. They are just doing their job. They were told by dispatch that there was a suspicious guy in the park watching the kids. If the guy would have just given them his ID they would have determined that he was who he said he was and wasn't a registered sex offender and went on their way, but this idiot escalated the situation by refusing to show his ID. In my opinion the only harassment was this guy harassing the cops.

Just to reiterate, it's ridiculous that the police would be called on a guy innocently watching his grand kids play, but it is also ridiculous to blame this on the police who are doing there jobs and making sure the kids are safe.
