Until now I never really believed that these people were real. After correcting a feminist's point, she replies that Evidence doesn't matter and calls the Moderators.

when women "gaze" at men? not so much.

[–]fengpi 44 points45 points46 points 9 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

So "looked-at", then.

Every day, 100% of women are raped by men's eyeballs. 100%! You don't see that number very often in science.

[–]v574v 19 points20 points21 points 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

It's also based on perception - so you don't actually need to be looking at them they just have to think you are - like the obstruction who stood in the path between my children and I the other day when I picked them up at the mall.

[–]fengpi 18 points19 points20 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

See, that's why men shouldn't be allowed to have eyes.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

They should remove them at birth along with the foreskins. Having no eyes prevents conjunctivitis, glaucoma, macular degeneration etc after all, and nobody will miss eyesight they've never had. Blended human eyes can almost certainly be used as an ingredient for hand lotion or similar too.

[–]majortom22 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You forgot the babies' testicles -those need to be removed too

[–]-Nonou- 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, you see, even 10 year old boys can leave their rape victims pregnant while performing their daily rape schedule. We can't afford to take this risk.

[–]fengpi 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And the tongue- get rid of that vile mansplaining right at the source.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Why not just remove the foreskin and fuse that skin over the eyes?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think you are correctly prioritizing the beauty product opportunities here. Also removing any male organs that enable production of natural moisture is the socially acceptable - at least in the US - and therefore optimum solution.

[–]fengpi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Two birds with one stone. I like it. See, we need more creative thinking like that.

Men's skulls: should they be turned into drinking cups? Or crushed-up into chips to be used as aggregate to fill-in potholes?

Sir, I applaud you.

[–]Protomankind 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Eyes are a form of oppression.

Like all the times they pull their sweaters closed over their chest when I am just looking past their ugly faces

[–]Triskerai 25 points26 points27 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Drunk girls feel my abs and butt at a beach party without my consent. Society's take: "females owning their sexuality" and "fempowerment".

Me looking at a sign and a girl walks in front of it inadvertently drawing my gaze for a second. Society's take: "sexual harassment" "objectification" "end the male gaze".

[–]asillyduck_ 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

they should be arrested for hate crimes.

[–]asillyduck_ 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

though personally I think treason. You can't incite hate against (half) of a countries population, because once you can talk about it terms of the total population it IS an attack on that country and its infrastructure both meta and literal.

[–]Lupinfujiko 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What an irretrievably stupid article.

They placed an app on women's phones to literally remind them to "report" sexual objectification - which is obviously the dumbest method of data-collection of all-time.

Then they talk about objectification like it's unique only to females. Right. Like the trash collector, or firefighter, or soldier is never treated as an object. No, that never happens.

Or sexual objectification. Women never sexually objectify men! Never! There aren't calendars of firefighters and male model actors. Men never get objectified! It never happens! /s

Then the article talks about mental health. It hurts their mental health!! We must be careful not to look at females for their mental health!!

Never mind the male suicide rate. Never mind the vast multitudes of men leaving universities and not entering into traditional relationships. Never mind men being forced into back-breaking manual labour in which they eventually die.

No, let's forget about those things. We only need to worry how women feel!! Especially how women feel when we tell them what to feel!! That guy looking at you? No, it's not because he likes you and finds it beautiful, it's because of the patriarchy!! Aaaaahhhhh men everywhere! Patriarchy everywhere!! How dare men look at us! How dare they talk to us! How dare they coinhabit the planet with our superior gender!!

My goodness man. My goodness. The world has gone full retard. Complete full retard. Feminism has become the poster child for asinine stupidity on full unabashed display on the internet.

[–]fengpi 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

See, you only ask women a question. Then, use their answers as a basis of comparison against men- whom you DON'T ask. 100-to-0!

[–]djc_tech 15 points16 points17 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That's assuming men are looking at the women and thinking of sex. I look at women...sometimes it's because they're pretty, sometimes it's because they're wearing something that caught my eye and wonder if my wife would like it, sometimes I might think I now them, sometimes they're ugly and you can't stop looking at ugly for some reason...

There is a multitude of reasons and to think that every time a man looks at you they're thinking about sex shows you think to highly of yourself and you're so egocentric you're truly oblivious to the world around you. Get over yourselves...

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My favorite is when I had a mother jogging accuse me of "staring at her and sexually objectifying her." I'm like: "bitch, I was checking out your double stroller because my wife and I are looking for one and I have never seen that model before."

"oh........."

[–]Cronyx 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You don't even need to go that far with justification. If you're in public, you're broadcasting your image "in the clear" over the analog transmission of visible light, and any sensors within range, like say for example the directional antennas in the front of our skull, the good old mark one eyeball, are within their right to parse that signal.

[–]Rethgil 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No way that's not possible. Men aren't capable of anything other than rape thoughts. Feminist studies tell me so.

[–]RubixCubeDonut 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've stared at a couple of women's chests before. Hard as fuck to read the funny joke on the shirt when huge knockers distort the shape so much.

[–]destythebesty 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's absolute bullshit...

[–]thwml 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

And how does one measure "objectification by the male gaze" exactly?

[–]SaiHottari 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Does it have a penis and eyeballs? It's objectifying a poor defenseless woman.

Does she feel like someone might have maybe, somehow looked at her? She's being objectified!

[–]fengpi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If the dude isn't handsome enough, it's objectification.

[–]thwml 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

So I'm guessing that Dr. Gina Tingles was employed as a research consultant.

[–]fengpi 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Her brilliant work has formed much of the foundation of this field and her influence will continue to echo-on well into the 21st century.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It could be done but the 'research' conducted by the ABC here is absolute garbage. I was a research psychologist. This is shit.

The only conclusion which can be made on the basis of their 'research' is that women reported feeling that they had been subjected to objectifying gaze. No more. To draw the conclusion they do would require an entirely different methodology.

Ergo this article lies and breaches ABC policy.

http://www.abc.net.au/contact/complain.htm

To actually measure objectifying gaze you would need to (discreetly) video record people and objectively measure what their faces do.

Set up an attractive woman in a public place that's under video surveillance. Every time someone looks at her, capture that. Have those bits of tape scored for 'objectifying gaze'. Also show the same scorers bits of tape when people weren't looking at the woman or anything in particular, to test for false positives.

Repeat with an attractive man.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Literally raping them with their eyes

[–]Hirudin 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I wonder how feminists can simultaneously believe that women are oppressed while also believing that it is entirely reasonable to demand that their "oppressors" not have the right to even gaze upon them in public.

[–]fengpi 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because "freedom" is for them to dress in lingerie in full public view, not for you to turn your eyeballs somewhere. Unless you're rich and hunky.

[–]HiredMind 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What’s up, beautiful?

They're expanding the criteria for "objectification", too.

It used to be that "Nice tits" was objectification. Now it's when a man calls a woman beautiful.

They get pissed off when you don't notice their new hairstyle, and then get pissed off when you complement them on it.

And then they get pissed off when you call this behavior irrational.

[–]Rethgil 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They get pissed off at least once a month-but femiscience PROVES that's due to misogyny. Definitely NOT due to their feelz affecting their perceptions.

[–]CommanderZx2 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The most common form was the objectifying gaze (making up 55% of objectifying experiences).

So what you're saying is that 45% of women can turn invisible to avoid being seen by other people.

[–]Rethgil 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

These people not only hurt men in their actions; they are eroding academia. An aim of feminism is also to tear down scientific methods, and its clear from studies like this they hope to do it bit by bit, hoping we won't notice.

[–]ZimbaZumba 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

A classic "define a word in a manner the respondents would not, without telling them" survey. I thought surveys done by universities had to go through ethics committees first?

[–]Thorpolice 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Umm... I bet when someone who looks like Brad Pitt gazes at them they don't report it. When someone who looks like me on the other hand...

[–]fengpi 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wait wait- "self-objectifying" = worrying how you look to others?

Ahaahahaha! I self-objectified this morning when I got out of bed and cringed at the mirror! Is there a similar phenomenon when I worry about my breath after eating garlic? Ahaahahaha... Pathetic...

[–]ThePigmanAgain 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

LOL! One of them is still just a student.

http://www.melbournemoralpsychologylab.com/content/elise-holland

Actually, looks like the other one is too...

Edit. I removed the link as it could be seen as doxxing.

She also likes to refer to herself in the third person...

"I plan to examine the relationship between masculine norms, objectification, and gendered violence for her Ph.D. thesis."

But here's where it gets scary...

"I hope that this research may one day assist in developing policy and interventions for victims of gendered violence."

So, basically, this is the doing of a couple of millennial girls, not mature women.

[–]fengpi 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

the transformation of an individual into a thing for another’s sexual use.

And this transmutation occurs by looking at the individual. This transformation that takes place... is it painful? Does it leave lasting scars? Is it permanent? Or does it end when the eyeball looks elsewhere? Are blind men safe, then? Or can they similarly transform an individual by their senses of hearing and smelling? This transmutation can surely take place over Skype as well, but what about over a regular phone line? Or a telegraph? Is electricity required for tele-objectification? If not, can that also happen via snail mail or through carrier pigeon? Are fat, ugly women less likely to be hurt by this objectification? If so, is that not an example of fat/ugly privilege? So many questions...

[–]EduBA 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And what happened with that old English proverb "A cat may look at a king". Is my gaze the cause for Jane's ignorance of Pythagorean Theorem?

[–]dentastic101 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So space out for 5 mins looking into the middle distance and sexually assault 3 feminists. Busy day.
