I like how the article is meant to criticize women who are not feminists, or do not conform to a radical feminist view even if they call themselves a feminist, yet it makes a very strong point that a woman can be successful, can be a good role model for young women, and all while rejecting the label and ideals of "feminism".

It doesn't matter what people call themselves. This obsession with labels is silly. It matters what they do. Serial killers don't walk around calling themselves serial killers. My limited understanding is that O'Connor was a moderate conservative. So no, she probably did not uphold a lot of feminist viewpoints.

So I found out she's being misquoted. Or at least being awfully paraphrased. Here's what she actually said from the New York Times itself.

Do you call yourself a feminist?

I never did. I care very much about women and their progress. I didn’t go march in the streets, but when I was in the Arizona Legislature, one of the things that I did was to examine every single statute in the state of Arizona to pick out the ones that discriminated against women and get them changed.

Just because she doesn't call herself a feminist doesn't mean she isn't one.

I always think back , being in my 30s and a child of the 80s i grew up with Thatcher as a prime minister , now this is a woman who got no special consideration, womens only shortlists or any such bollocks, she got it because she earned it and was good enough .

Though I can't say I've ever enjoyed any movie or tv show she's done, I was quite pleased with Sarah Jessica Parker's answer. Absurd that she would actually be derided for identifying as a humanist rather than a feminist.

I find the article amusing.

Obviously feminist author finds successful women who aren't feminists, chooses to criticize them instead of wondering why this kind of thing is becoming more and more common. Surprisingly, psychology provides a reasonable answer. Belief that internal factors influence success has always been a predictor of personal success.

When ever a Supreme Court justice releases a statement it is serious and important.

She doesn't call her self means she is but doesn't use the label.

So if you are something but won't use the label, your being dishonest.

The very definition of a feminist.
