unconsensual extraction of your sperm, in turn any other operation of their choosing as result of this precedent
unconsensual storage of your sperm
unconsensual impregnation of a woman with your sperm
unconsensual fatherhood
essentially rape by court order

Future prospects if this man survives:

this shit costing him a fuckton of money
having a child or multiple children the court will oblige him to provide for
even if he were to divorce and give up any custody, and despite only the woman wanting the child possibly against his consent, he will still be paying settlements and supports until he sits homeless on the street.

I've been saying for years that this is coming to us all. The push for men to not have legal ownership of their own sperm is quite old now.

About ten years ago, there were two or three cases in England in connection with this, where wives wanted to be able to control whether a man donated sperm [a man who does so is an idiot in my mind, but that's a different matter].

About five years before that, there was a case in the USA - Iowa I think(?) - where a dying man had his sperm extracted after he was able to give consent.

In Nigeria, and some other Muslim countries, the man's sperm (like most of him and what he does) belongs to his wife. Even in cases of post-separation, she can demand sperm from him while still his wife.

In many jurisdictions, if a man (mostly a husband) has sperm lodged anywhere, his ex-wife/partner can get access to that if she wants, which can make him liable for around $¼m. [If you have sperm stored anywhere, destroy it as soon as your relationship hits the rocks!] If the man dies, under the laws of bailment, stored sperm become part of his estate and can end up with entirely the wrong woman, who can thereby create a child which she can make a claim on the estate for the upkeep of.

And now this decision in India.

It's coming to a place near you. Already, at the United Nations there is discussion that refusing to get a female partner pregnant is a form of domestic abuse. You can imagine where that leads to: a man's sperm doesn't belong to him, even though he is financially liable for what results from it.

A lot of comments here without even reading the article.

The couple is happily married, and most likely trying for kids like most indian couples. Husband gets serious covid. Wife wants kid from husband. Court allows it.

While this crosses quite a few lines, it doesn't really seem that wrong considering they were already trying.

What you people don't understand is how important kids are to some people and a sense of family. This kid would most likely be the the heir of the family. This kid is what would keep the woman going on without her husband. This kid is her connection to her marital home in the absence of her husband. If she has this kid, she's unlikely to ever marry again.

In certain places, marriage and love still holds sanctity, and it isn't necessarily a men vs women situation.

Indian courts have made some really shitty decisions, and there are extremely sexist laws, no doubt about that, but I don't think this is one of them
