Tinder has been described as a “hook-up app” — but new research suggests that it is not particularly effective at facilitating one-night stands. The study, published in Evolutionary Psychological Science, indicates that Tinder is not causing an increase in short-term sexual encounters.

In the study, the researchers surveyed 269 Norwegian university students [only heterosexual, both male and female] who were former or current Tinder users regarding their experiences using the dating app.

Only 54 participants (20%) reported engaging in one-night stands following Tinder use and the majority of them had only experienced this once.

Of the entire sample, 80% did not achieve any sexual encounter thanks to Tinder and 13% achieved only one. Only 3% achieved two sexual encounters and 4% achieved more than two.

Using data from their new study, the researchers calculated that it took about 57 matches on average for a user to have one meeting with a potential partner.

Other sources say that only about half of the Tinder users ever met anyone in-person via Tinder.

This conflicts with the claim of "Chad" getting easy matches and hookups on Tinder, or that most women on Tinder are willing to hookup with "Chad".

(I also looked up some self-reported numbers for Grindr, for contrast. The numbers are much higher. Women don't hookup with "Chad" at anywhere near the rates that gay men hookup with each other. Also, it proves that "Tinder is just Grindr for straight people" is complete nonsense.)
