A lot of people seem to be wondering how the younger generation dates and meets people. I have heard people here claim Instagram was a popular tool for people to meet new people to date or hookup which surprised me because I have never heard anyone doing that despite being a millennial.

I recently asked my teen sister how people her age meet others, and she claimed that tiktok was the popular way. If you don’t know what tiktok is, it’s a video sharing app that allows you to upload short videos of yourself and like other people’s videos. The app is extremely popular and has 800 million active users, which over 40% of are between the ages 16-24.

My sister claims that people will upload videos of themselves, basically asking if anyone wants to be their gf or bf. Some of her friends( male and female) have done this and gotten private dms from people agreeing to go out with them. None of them followed through though.

This is an example of what I am talking about:

Tiktok wasn't a thing when I was a teen, so whole thing struck me as odd. If I was parent I would be extremely worried about my kid meeting up with somebody they meet on social media unless I properly vetted their identity. However, my sister says there is at least one case at her school of somebody meeting their bf off of tiktok.

Anyways, I posted this because I was curious if anyone heard of this phenomenon and if you would personally would use a social media site like tiktok to find a gf/bf or even hookup.
