The ONLY benefit of marriage is providing a stable family for your children. Don't get married unless YOU want kids, and choose your wife based on how good of a mother she will be to them. Other than that, there is no reason or benefit for marriage.

Marriage was originally 'invented' to minimize competitive violence over women among the men within the tribe. Tribes that adapted marriage grew stronger because they were more cohesive, eventually becoming whole societies.

The implied promise of marriage is that all men get (at least) one woman and his paternity is 'guaranteed'. This builds trust in the social contract. Without that trust you have chaos. This is why marriage is tied so closely with religion and morality and is considered a pillar of civilization.

It's also why religion, morality and the law have traditionally been the realm of men, not women. It was men who had to come together, strong and weak alike, to agree on the rules.

There is somewhat more benefit in Asia, but it would be difficult for you to achieve the rewards unless you actually live there long term. Partially arranged marriages are frequent there. I have friends who have had arranged marriages, and they have worked out very well. You do have a bit of choice, its more like matchmaking by your family. If you are a guy with a strong career often parents with a lone daughter don't want the family business to disappear so they want to find a man that could potentially take it over.

I am probably going to go for that kind of arrangement, but I lived in Asia for 10 years and have connections that can arrange that kind of setup.

If I stay in Europe, my best bet is to get a girl knocked up and work from there, but there will be no marriage.

Marriage is having one partner for the rest of your life under a marriage contract.

What happens if you take out marriage and just have a life partner?

You can be with someone for the rest of your life without getting married. You can have kids without getting married. Sure you'll lose out on some perks like tax incentives and others, but you also won't be burdened with a contract. And yes, there are places in North America where you can have a partner without getting married, and upon splitting up, no one has to pay anyone anything. No spousal support, no division of assets.

The point of marriage is for a woman to get her legalized slave. If you are a man who marries a woman that will be you. You will be at her mercy to do what she wants you do to when she wants you do to it. Otherwise she can call the police telling them she doesn't feel "safe" and have your ass thrown out of your own house and not allowed to go back. She can and 2/3 chance will divorce you, steal half your shit, enslave you for the best part of your life to pay for kids that might not even be yours, get alimony, cheat on you, sit on her ass all day while not working, cleaning or putting out, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Marriage, in its conception, was, much like chivalry, the ultimate declaration of sexism. It said, "You are inferior to me in every way, and can not hold estate or fortune because of it. To make up for this, I'll give you my resources and social status and you will give me children, nurture those children, and grant me sex on demand."

Marriage has always been a business, but nowadays men are getting nothing out of it. Women have turned it into a one sided business and the world has convinced men that this is ok, that we're supposed to suffer while our women get everything they wanted.

The tax benefits are not necessarily a plus side of marriage, have you looked at the tax brackets? Dual income, no kids (DINK) can land you in a much higher tax bracket than if you were single. You may not always be in the DINK category, but it doesn't become a benefit until you have kids.

More and more people are waking up to the fact that marriage is obsolete. That is why marriage is at it's lowest numbers in history.

Why marriage? Well the last remaining hold outs in the world will be the religious people. In the future marriage will be considered a quaint little institution from a long ago era.

My only reason is kids. I wouldn't have kids out of wedlock. I'm still not decided on kids. Though she would love them, she has a few more years to go before she's proven herself worthy of having my kids.

If you find a woman that makes your life easier, makes you a better person, and would be a good mother to children, assuming you want children, you may want to lock her down.

As shallow or strange I will sound, I want a husband. I don't want to be 50 yrs old calling the man my boyfriend or partner or significant other.

I am not religious, and think that anyone should be able to marry, not just man and woman. There is really no reason for me to want to get married except for the little girl in me who dreamed of growing old with the man she loves. I've pictured that as my "husband" and that is the ultimate reason I want to get married.

I don't want a big wedding. I'm going to Vegas, drive thru wedding with Elvis's, in my fav pair of jeans. 2 good friends with me and maybe hit up McDonalds after! Once I'm with the one I'l grow old with that is.

To each their own. Be kind to one another. If it doesn't matter to you whether you get married but it does to your significant other, why not just tie the knot?
