At this point Im envious, I haven’t divorced yet just separated and the actual divorce has me feeling anxious but also it’ll be nice to feel truly free again.

Is this confirmed?

Sounds similar to me, I went through the stages of grief shock, bargaining, sadness/depression, and the one stage that I never fully embraced was anger and now I’m starting to feel okay about being angry. That doesn’t mean you have to do anything destructive or even publicize your anger outside your private moments or among trusted people. I guess I’m saying this because I feel like you need to embrace all these feelings completely before you can reach the final stage of acceptance which include…

It’s okay to take your time with healing yourself. Forgive yourself, forgive her, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be angry with what she did. Screw her dude, you’re a man and the world is yours now to live freely without walking on eggshells around her. Let her stupid bullshit go, she probably wasn’t perfect herself. You need to come through, if not for yourself then for those still in your corner or the rest of us men going through similar situations that need the inspiration.

Yeah, at the very least she’s trying to create a narrative so she can tell people in here life or future people how her ex was a abusive and she bravely escaped from the tyrannical oppressive patriarchy and became a strong and independent boss lady woman or whatever. Regardless though you need keep all of this in mind and understand that this is not someone rational or is interested in cooperating with you. They want a story to tell and would like for you to give them something to work with.

Self preservation; you’re a survivor. Your ancient ancestors didn’t go through god knows what for you to fold now. If you have to exist out of defiance, but just keep trucking along no matter how hard it gets.

Time to embrace the suck man and do good if not for yourself then for the people still in your circle who love you. You’re going to get through this and be an inspiration to other men who are put through the same shitty situation. Just keep fighting the good fight if not for yourself then others who need to see it done. It gets better with time, but it’s gradual progress.

Its so true, its crazy how they can turn it off and basically laugh at men when we’re basically having a mental breakdown because, most women don’t know the depths of a mans love for their family. We have a different way of showing affection, I would of taken a bullet for my wife, our two instincts as men is to protect and provide thats how we show love and the only thing we really need in return is respect. When women disrespect you in a profound way it’s over. Thats when you need to guard your…

My attorney wants 3k just to file, he just told me I should do it myself. Lol it’s mind boggling 15-20k for the wedding and potentially thousands in attorney fees I’m in the wrong business. I should become a officiant/divorce attorney and offer a bundle option for a discount

Because women would end up being the majority of the operators and gaslight men every time they call in. You already see it happening occasionally on this Reddit page, men trying to express themselves due to trauma caused by the opposite sex just for the occasional bitter female to jump in and traumatize them again for trying to discuss their feelings; and they wonder why we shutdown our feelings/emotions.

Listening to breakup motivational lectures on YouTube helps. I listen to it as background noise while getting ready or driving places. Or look up gym motivational videos on YouTube. Take supplements, especially ones that support your testosterone. Focus on your money, and forgive but don’t forget. Also give yourself some grace and self love. Us men have to stick together these days more now than ever.

Idk, some probably ranged from 3-4 or 5 days with travel it probably seemed a lot less. What can I say, there was years where we took more than one trip not to mention having to take time off for miscellaneous events. We met when I was 25 and I’m 32 now; through that period of time I only had so much money to spend on traveling while paying for everything else while trying to save to buy her a house and throw her a wedding, plus work only gives me so many days of PTO. I suppose I’m a failure and…

This is part of the reason I won’t pursue anything romantic. Healing takes time and effort, seriously though give yourself some grace. I’m here to say most of us have highs/lows and I don’t want you to be too disappointed by your low moments. This isn’t a movie where we say and do all the right things, your going to have your cringe moments and the important thing is to allow yourself to go through it until you recognize this isn’t where you want to be so you pick yourself up and keep going. Go see a therapist or something, sounds like your mentality is the problem. You’re not going to be happy all the time. Honestly man this whole “I’m not happy” so I’m getting a divorce is something I hear mainly from women leaving their husbands. No marriage of the past, present, or future could survive this standard. You even said shes your best friend and there is no issue, you’re about to create an issue and the more you wave this red flag the less she’s going to trust you. If there’s relation…

Seems like you experienced the summit followed by a fall from grace, from your perspective what is it that allows some marriages to succeed and the red flags that lead to their downfall?

I like that; simply by aiming up and down the right things for yourself will 9 times out of 10 lead to positive results and eventually it becomes habit forming to aim up and develop an abundance mindset. I know with my ex I was so concerned with serving her and doing damage control for the drama she would often introduce unnecessarily that it did negatively impact me and when she left I didn’t know what to do with myself, and I’m just starting to convince myself that self love and my happiness i…

Yeah in my family there’s marriages that have been through hell, but they all doubled down and stood strong, and I’m talking wars, deaths, etc. with my ex she said I didn’t take her on long enough vacations.

That’s now a big deal I realize, no family is perfect but with her family divorce was very casual amongst many other issues. Another thing is whats her relationship with her father; and what is her father like.

You need to ask yourself, “can I take her at her worst, does the rewards outweigh the risks?” If the answer is no then you need to separate in the most civil manner possible. If the answer is yes then the second question is whether you’re both willing and committed to working on yourself’s both individually and as a couple for the rest of your lives accepting the difficult lifelong challenge in exchange for the rewards that can come with it that won’t always be the most apparent.

I had to lean into a few people that I could truly trust with seeing my darker side and not judge. In addition I did go see a therapist and Ive been going for about a year and just now see some of the benefits, but there are alternatives such as online/zoom style therapy. Theres a lot of good YouTube videos or books/audiobooks like no more Mr. Nice guy. Do it all man, try a little bit of everything to help yourself out. I hope you can stay calm and stoic like your saying you will and your definitely capable of doing so, but I say this as a word of caution and that is emotions can just sneak up on you in these situations and will just consume your thoughts and responses which usually lead to more of a scattered or exaggerated reaction than we would intend in a picture perfect situation were we play it cool, say the right things, and find the closure we want. Something that I think is hard to except about this so…

Yeah dude, she worked and had a stressful job but didn’t make any real money. I worked and my job has its stressors sure but I personally think it’s not bad at all and I made more money and paid most of the bills; I saved more and I got her to start thinking that way a little but she still spent more. I think it’s hypergamy in a modern style. Think of this, marketing is a multi billion dollar industry and it’s heavily targeted demographic is children and women because men aren’t good for business really. So much advertising is subliminal and design to make you desire something unnecessary to feel complete and theres so much of this that it becomes unrealistic and when men can’t meet these expectations and especially when we start setting boundaries they start to wonder if they could fair bett…

If he’s not a sociopath and values marriage on a moral level then it’s more like treating a serious wound versus a quick fix. Do the typical read/listen to self help books, therapy/church, workout/diet, friends/family, travel, drink/yell/break shit (responsibly), plan, have good days and bad ones, go through stages of grief, I’ve also been told to talk to other women and I have not done that personally because I don’t think I can or want to handle another woman but I know why people recommend it…

If its there mom it might bring a different meaning. Luck is sorta elusive and up to the eye of the beholder but it could mess with someone’s head. Maybe hold onto it and if he gets married and you know he wouldn’t want the ring sell it and give him the money towards another ring.

Lol the “McMansion” I don’t understand women, and to hell with it I barely understand anything else… well maybe I understand women better than I want to admit but don’t want to be negative, anyway it’s nice to hear you standing some ground and its very reasonable to not want your children to visit you in a “dog house”

Man I will say this all sorta depends on the context behind her leaving you, but generally speaking this is not a movie where you confess your love and she is swoon and realizes shes wrong about everything and comes running back. When a woman makes her mind up theres no stopping her. If anything this message will make her feel like she still has you as a backup. If anything keep it short and simple. Do yourself a favor and take some time off for yourself and talk to people in your inner circle.

Kinda sad, ironically men are going to have to start turning down some of these advances and demand more respect from women to get into bed kinda like how women used to be. Lol wont happen in the day and age of guilt free sex without consequences versus prior to the many birth controls and std preventions when women needed to be careful about selecting a partner who they could trust to be a good man who wouldn’t runaround/abandon her and would provide/protect in exchange for her to nurture/love.

This is more about money than divorce, those guys are in entirely different league of finances they lose millions and turnaround sneeze and make millions it’s entirely different ball game. Im sure behind closed doors they suffer but PR is probably worth its own weight in gold. Plus so much of this is based on your state. Ultimately man its on us for not being idiots when it comes to our choices, like prenups should be normalized and if she has a problem with it bye bye

I’ll never understand men past a certain age that pursue taken women. I can understand maybe a younger age, but thats when fathers should teach their sons what to steer clear of. It’s like playing with fire and it lacks honor; though I know how persuasive and manipulative women can be. Sounds like you dodged a bullet, still going to be a challenging road ahead.

Yeah I agree with some of the comments here about you simping if you do that and if anything you can give your kids some money to but their mom something but it shouldn’t be a gesture from you on what is a romantic day. Man opening up a relationship doesn’t seem to ever work out in the end. It sounds exciting and fun, but I’ve never seen those relationships be free of drama/issues eventually. Sounds like she has underlying issues that are being exposed, and you deserve better. Take some time for yourself in the aftermath of all this do some soul searching/reflection. You’ll end up a better man because of it.

Just because you don’t entertain them doesn’t make you an ass, Im a bit of an introvert myself and don’t necessarily love small talk especially if I’m tired. Maybe you just wanted to chill and watch the game. Dude sounds like you desecrated multiple relationships, not just any relationships but marriage at that. For the sake of getting your rocks off, I know we often put the whole blame on the one in the relationship but lets be honest a man of honor and integrity doesn’t pursue promiscuous women who have made vows, not only that but smart men don’t do that shit because you don’t know what could happen like the most extreme scenario Ive heard of was a murder suicide situation. She’s not a good person don’t get tangled up in it; these things catch up to people and gets worse the longer they don’t get caught. That’s fair, I guess it stands out to me because of similar things my ex would say. She loves drama/chaos, it was entertaining for her. Im a very boring responsible guy who doesn’t meddle in others affairs and stays in my lane. I would say that everything people recommend within reason is worth a shot: therapy, church, gym, hobbies, friends/family, self appreciation/self love, etc. there’s no one size fits all solution so dabble in it all and see what cocktail of healing works. With that in mind know its not about getting over, under, or around this but getting through this process and it will take time and going through the five stages of grief. Prayers man!

Mutual friends pick sides quickly and just being honest with you people are more naturally inclined to victimize the woman and demonize the man. Now your friends/family that you brought into the relationship if solid relationships are going to stick with you and if they don’t they ain’t for you our at the very least not part of your inner circle. What I suggest is that you identify a manageable number of mutual friends you like to keep and that are easiest picking for you out of the batch and kn…

I think parents are the first examples of a relationship between two people in a child’s life and are the first examples of mother/father husband/wife. I know with my wife she was bounced around often and her parents had multiple partners and even children with multiple people. Whereas no one in my family divorced so I wonder if separation/divorce is more casual for those that have been exposed to it early on and they go through the emotional turmoil as a child.

Tell me I’m wrong, but hypergamy is a thing. I’m NOT saying you aren’t one hell of a man because I bet you have good qualities. Im just wondering if hypergamy is so instinctive for women in general that they always feel like they can/might do better?

I’ll be honest, I slept on the pull out sofa in the other room, drank every night, got dark in my head, faked normalcy, and had occasional emotional breakdowns that i tried to hide the best I could. Why not? Seriously any reason why it wouldn’t be more beneficial than anything negative? Also I want to add: prenup agreements ranging from simple to complex need to be more affordable and required by law for marriage. I also think that there should be free marriage counseling especially if there is kids involved but thats getting a little side tracked. The dna test and prenup being required would make me happy enough and would help avoid a lot of issues.

You’re holding on man, I think it’s a matter of what caused the divorce? Are you certain that you want her out of your life? If you’re on the fence then go if you’re not and you are certain that you never want to hear from again forever then what difference does it make

Evidence is very important here, if have a little bit of evidence or even see if a drug test can be requested: if you basically get some red flags raised it might not be enough for her to lose custody but enough for an investigation which could lead to other things

If there’s mutual friends or children involved keep it neutral almost professional but when there isn’t let that shit rip my man it’ll dull out overtime and start to feel like a broken record that needs to be stopped and replaced. If it ever feels like to much hate just remember that it’s important to not cast the devil in someone without also seeing the spirit of god, meaning she’s probably not pure evil or good just a very flawed and arrogant woman

I have similar thoughts man, I didn’t necessarily experience the lesbian thing (that I know of) but I’m pretty certain she left me partially because she wanted to act out a hoe phase like she was twenty again and Im not into that. I don’t think what I’m reading here is grounds for divorce. I think it sounds more normal than you think, definitely let her know respectfully let firmly that you won’t hear any unwarranted criticism of your parents and if she wants to do that over none serious concerns in regards to your parents she needs to do it somewhere else because its effects you poorly. So I would say weed just like alcohol is not something you can be intoxicated by and still be responsible for the care of a child. That’s legally speaking, so if she can prove to a judge that you’re high all the time even around the child the judge will probably want the sober person to be the guardian and if its bad enough maybe even require supervised visits or some kind of substance abuse treatment. I don’t know your habits, but if you’re worried about it then don’t do it in front of her and …

Damn she joined the Military at 36? Something to consider is that if you two are still married and she’s cheating on you it’s punishable by the uniform code of military justice. So that being said it’s fairly serious, the punishment could potentially be a dishonorable discharge or even confinement. Those may be on the more serious end of punishment but still I’d probably consider that potential.

I don’t see how it would be beneficial, marriage is a sacred union and bond. It’s not only a physical or emotional connection but traditionally it’s supposed to be a spiritual connection as well. My wife pulled the whole “I love you but I’m not in love with you” but that’s when we both should have worked together and instead she distanced herself. Also both spouses need to recognize that you’re not always going to be in a honeymoon phase. For a woman to want to cheat is often a thought out thing…

Your going to have to find a woman who is the same as you religiously, better chance of it working out. Its true, women are a lot more alluring to young men when they’re still young, pretty, and undamaged from the modern age. Theres a time and place for vulnerability, but if you find yourself in a hellish situation such as war or in the middle of a crisis you’ll benefit from being hardened up and deal with enough of these situations your character will be shaped by such external circumstances. Maybe we should just accept that some people are meant to be more emotionally vulnerable than others and that those differences combined can make for a well balanced society.

Chivalrous men are the makes of a gentleman, something that used to be the goal for every young man in western civilization in return they were highly regarded for being such and given respect. Chivalry is oppressive when it goes from being a well respected gentleman to being a simp. It’s up to older male role models to teach their sons the difference so they don’t suffer from the “nice guy syndrome” later on and get taken advantage of.

Your daughter can become an RN through a two year program at a community college while living at home. Sorry man, but kids are sold to much on the “college experience”. I work with people who have four year degrees and high school diplomas all making the same income. The college experience is an expensive social experience, which is important but there’s cheaper ways to replicate a social experience such as community college to get her RN and then she can decide after two years if she wants to c…

This sub has truly helped me, it’s nice to have a group of men who feel free to talk openly and honestly without judgement. Occasionally I think you’ll get a pissed off ex or soon to be ex on here that gets offended by the raw insight to how men feel and think when faced with divorce but you sorta have to ignore them and focus on your brothers. There’s great advice on here too, a lot of experience and guys who really want to help and pay it forward. Seems like society often frowns on male only g…

Sorry to hear this man, one thing I can relate to is social media. I’ve definitely been hooked on social media more so since my wife left because I’m a mess and seeking answers so it’s an okay resource. But there’s some absolutely terrible rabbit holes on the internet and the algorithms are designed to show you what you want to see/hear to keep you scrolling effectively creating a personalized echo chamber. Also everything is heavily edited and cinematic to the extent that it doesn’t matter if w…

You’re going to need to find a circle of people to talk to about this stuff, friends/family/therapist/pastor or some variation but I would avoid confiding in mutual friends and family members. Something i came to realize is that no one understands this type of stuff than other men who have gone through it, I had no perspective or understanding before my wife left me but now I see people who have been through divorce in a completely different light. So if you have a close friend or family member …

If it wasn’t personal then I wouldn’t go out of my way, because what the hell are you going to do run around exposing all the cheaters of the world, but if I had the convenient opportunity too I would stranger or not. Now if it’s personal like how I feel your situation is and you had an easy way to tell her I absolutely would in a very delicate/sensitive way. There’s a lot of reasons to do this some are malevolent in the terms of revenge or karma. But the righteous intent that I believe outweigh…

Id find out when shes moving out for sure and then you have a date at least. Maybe even tell her how you feel about her dating in your current situation and see if she’ll be willing work something out. If shes openly dating someone else then her happiness and also her sorrow is no longer your responsibility, your new responsibility is to recover and then live your best life for you no one else.

Long walks, therapy, supplements, talk to a small circle of people you can trust especially if they’ve been in similar situations, bought some edc fidget stuff, time, videos of stand up comedy about divorce, etc. I also did unhealthy habits, but the goal is to avoid that stuff but i also wouldn’t beat yourself up about it either just know that you mainly need to find something healthy for yourself as the goal. Time does help dull out some of the emotion. You’ll need to develop a dozen ways to he…

Yeah, I got to take some time for self improvement and some reflection before I go out finding another girl. Only problem is I have a distrust for women now even if a girl is being nice to me or smiles at me I immediately think they’re just faking it and eventually they will turn.

I swear this is where I’m heading, I don’t want to care anymore. I put a lot of blame on the current culture, so fuck it let’s all just focus on ourselves. I put way too much energy into my relationship now its time for me to not give a shit.

Probably the most similar story to mine on here all the way down to still having some hope. Personally I just want a clear and cut sign for me to know that it’s over. But idk if I’ll ever get it, and at some point I need to end it for everyone’s sake. I swear this generation of women are different than what we witnessed with our parents and grandparents.

Im pretty sure there would be to s of fraud, i know when I was in the military a lot of people would marry just for the extra money and options for family housing in exchange the other person got health/dental insurance or some sort of deal. What would keep someone from divorcing and getting the insurance money and still remaining together, an insurance can’t keep people from having a relationship romantically or friendship. Im just playing devils advocate and thats the first thing I could think…

I realized that it doesn’t help me and really just gives her fuel to her fire. Even after I realized that I relapsed a couple times, but the idea of not giving her that emotional power over me helps. You almost have to be stoic towards women while separating.

Maybe with a good prenup and if there was a religious reason for it not just a social media post/status. But who knows because really my faith in women and generally the world today has been severely shaken and I’ll probably never trust anyone again.

You’re probably going to get a variety of answers and what Ive come to find is you have to do a little bit of everything until you find the right mixture of help that seems to work for you. Seems like the most trending suggestion I have seen is some kind of exercise, which I myself need to start doing. But if you’re looking for a quick release I suggest calling someone you trust and can be open with limited judgements, this could be a therapist or family member/friend. Id suggest having a few pe…

I almost wonder if she is going through something like depression, I know with my own depression its hard to focus or be motivated to do anything besides work. Im assuming that your reference for counseling is for couples counseling, but maybe you both should consider individual counseling irregardless of what’s happening between you two. If she still doesn’t want to go, you should consider it for yourself it takes a few sessions before you feel comfortable opening up to a stranger face to face …

Man I know how you feel, this stuff is almost shocking. You hear about it happening and know that it’s possible but think “maybe we’re the exception” and then when it happens you’re just not prepared mentally or emotionally unless you’re the one leaving. Im going through all the stages of grief, there’s no easy way through it but people seem to find a way.

Once I get through my stuff, I’m going to just focus on myself and having friends for at least a couple years. I can’t imagine having a relationship, It’s time for self love. Hard to think about being selfish but I’m starting to feel like I deserve it everyone else is and I spent years kissing her ass while neglecting myself and other relationships and she ended up leaving me.

Man I completely agree with this, like I do fine with money and I had some aces up my sleeve but she wanted it all, like a big house in the most expensive area and multiple week long vacation throughout the year and everything in between and shes pissed at me because I mention how we need to budget for this or sacrifice to obtain that. It’s enough to make me feel crazy like I’m the evil oppressor for not being able to provide everything she wants on a silver platter.

I go back in between angry sad and sometimes I feel some bliss. Sad because I’m lonely and miss some of the good times. Angry because what she did to me and the bad memories. Bliss comes from the fact that maybe I’m better off and that I learned somethings from this situation about myself and women that might help me in the future. I’ve failed at plenty of things or more so not take initiative for opportunities that have presented themselves, well it makes me upset but i don’t regret my mistakes…

You’re being humble man (good trait), keep working on yourself. When I was in my twenties I just wanted physically attractive women, I now realize in my early thirties a good woman is so much more than the physical part. Don’t get me wrong physical appearance is still important but also just one element among probably a hundred different qualities. You will be much happier in the long run if you keep that in mind.

The fact that you are looking for validation here among a bunch of (lets face it) pissed off males due to our experiences with females is an indicator that you’re conflicted by your impulses and morals. There are things that you can’t control, simple as that. She left you and thats out of your control, she said to herself that she didn’t want to be a wife to you for whatever dumb reasons. Thats hard to understand, but you need to understand you did your best while being true to who you are and she wanted something different. I mean your days are your days, if she’s serious about her religion and having your kids raised within faith maybe there’s a compromise like take the kids to a Easter sermon or do something that teaches the true meaning behind Christian holidays like easter or Christmas. You don’t have to necessarily be a believer to understand the meaning and history behind the culture and its practices. That is if you guys are committed to raising the kids that way. I’ve never observed a relationship without problems, vice versa I haven’t observed relationships that don’t show joy. I just went through something similar and it’s lonely and sorta embarrassing but you have to adjust and avoid being cynical about others. Somethings are just out of our control and in hindsight maybe there’s a more compatible person out there and this time you’ll be looking from logic and experience versus (if you were anything like me) lust and excitement

I can’t say I’m facing the same financial issues as you and I’m sorry.
