1% of men who aren't subject to genital cutting decide to get cut. 10% of men subject to genital cutting wish they weren't cut.

As awareness grows over what's lost that 10% will grow.

If parents want a 1 in ten(and growing) chance that their sons will hate their guts and never want to speak to them again, that's their look out I suppose.

In other news, crack dealers think dealing crack is cool. Seriously, pediatricians make over 1 billion dollars annually from male circumcision. Why anyone would take their opinion seriously is beyond me. The AAP is not some independent, objective group, it is a bunch of bastards trying to fatten their wallets.

its report, released two months ago, does cite literature saying that the procedure can prevent urinary-tract infections, cancer of the penis and sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS.

When will people stop perpetuating these myths? Circumcision has no advantages whatsoever. All claims that it decreases the chance of contracting any STDs or infections have all been debunked.

I was circumcised at the age of 14 because my foreskin did not stretch. I had tried for years to stretch it, painfully, but it was to no avail. Given that the surgery would become more dangerous as I became older, I opted to have it done at a younger age.

In retrospect, my parents regret not having the procedure done earlier, but they did not want to do it only because they believed it would have brought unnecessary pain to me.

This is probably true for most other boys; it will be an unnecessary procedure. The penis is an easy thing to keep clean if a boy is taught to do it properly. I see no reason why a parent would feel compelled to cut off the foreskin.

If I had the option to have a foreskin again (that actually stretched), I would do it quickly and without hesitation.

Edit: This was a medically necessary procedure and it was non-cosmetic. Insurance company would have thrown a shoe if it wasn't.

Does cutting excess skin really count as amputation?

I think that's one of the biggest problems with circumcision in America, ignorance of what the foreskin really is.

Can someone bring me up to speed on this issue? I was circumcised as an infant and never thought anything of it. I don't remember it nor do I think it's had any traumatic type impact on my life. Why is it so detrimental?
