When a woman gets her drivers license, she should be asked a questionaire: "Are you equal to a man in every possible aspect?"

Those who select yes get entered into the SS.

Any abolition of the draft could just as easily be reversed, and would inevitably be reintroduced for men only. So equality should come first. And not just in America, but in other countries with conscription like Israel and Norway.

Actually I think we should start pushing for the equal rights amendment. Women would then have to register for SS and they'd lose all kinds of privileges they currently enjoy.

Do I think that SS should be abolished entirely? I don't know. I think that it sucks that people who don't want to fight have to, but when it comes down to it we all have a duty to defend the country that's given so much to us. Do I think women should have to be a part of it too? Probably, but their service should come in a different form than fighting in combat. Just my take on it.

Its been tried before, a full 31 years ago, the supreme court upheld selective service, that link goes to Wikipedia, which'll tell you the full story.

Although, it has been 31 years, I think there are more activists/people who care then back then, so it could happen...

It's been reviewed by the Supreme Court already, Rostker v. Goldberg finding that excluding women from the draft is constitutional because they are excluded from combat duty.

At President Clinton's request, the Department of Defense reviewed this issue in 1994. DoD noted that America's prior drafts were used to supply adequate numbers of Army ground combat troops. Because women are excluded by policy from front line combat positions, excluding them from the draft process remains justifiable in DoD's view. Although no conclusions were reached, DoD recognized that policies regarding women need to be reviewed periodically because the role of women in the military continues to expand.

The Selective Service System, if given the mission and additional funding, is capable of registering and drafting women with its existing infrastructure.

It seems that the only reason they cite that they haven't begun to require women to register is because women are legally barred from being on the front lines.

So -- would you also sue for women to be allowed on the front lines? Because some people in this thread seem to believe that we're not "genetically able" to serve directly on the battlefield because our gender.

NO WAY! I am not a sexist but I do not want women in battle/combat situations with me. They are genetically not designed to handle that type of stress and would turn out to be more of a burden then help on the battlefield. I've been around women in high pressure situations and clear headed decision making is about the farthest thing from what actually happens. The women who voluntarily serve can be held accountable but forcing women into these situations would most definitely lead to disaster. nope nope nope, may not be fair but it most definitely wouldn't be fair to our brothers in combat.

Long as the non combat exclusionary rule for combat jobs is still in effect. Women are not physically built to withstand that kind of punishment on their bodies like we are.

not to mention women dont have to go to jail for refusing... are allowed finacial aid.. drivers lisncesnes, goverment jobs.

its digusting and not only should women be forced into the selective service but they should have to pays some special tax to compensate us for the risk we have already takken for them
