Wow. How can she even compare this subreddit to spacedicks and the jailbait subreddits? Lumping them together is not fair. Most of those she mentions aren't my scene, but you guys have some good dialogue here. I don't have to agree with everything that is said to learn something. As a female, I think it is prudent to read men's rights and feminism to make informed choices about a subject. I can control "my anger" in either subreddit, lol. That is how educated free-thinking human beings do it. Keep the dialogue going guys. You deserve the right to air your grievances and ideas for making your world better.

I think her point, clumisly stated with regards to mens rights and anti religious subreddits etc. is that these movements, or subreddits, are populated by very opinionated people. Everyone has a right to their opinion but in these subreddits especially these opinions are at times stated in a rather trollish fashion, or are on the extremes. One could argue that if she doesn't want to be offended she shouldn't open say, space dicks, which is fair..but, as to her point about mens rights.

I'm relatively new to the idea, and came here to learn, I lurk and sometimes comment. A fair amount of the more dedicated commenters here hold opinions I don't always agree with, but they state them in a way that makes it easy to understand at least where they are coming from. That is not always the case for all such commenters here and sadly, these more extreme comments, and opinions here, these are the comments and opinions that stand out to those new to the movement and the subreddit. I know that I was at first taken a bit aback at some of the ideas expressed here in /mensrights, but have since that first brush, learned more about the movement and learned to identify these ideas as the extremes. (which is something that is hard to do in the beginning)

I think, that mensrights has an extra hard time because the ideas of a mens rights moevement is still new, and as with most new movements, it is (from my understanding) still learning what it wants to be, and how it wants to express itself. A lot of the people here have obviously been very hurt along the way, and are understandable frustrated by the situations in which they find themselves. The extremes and the frustrations of such growing pains of such a group are understandable. My perhaps overly long winded post, is that if you are standing on the outside looking in, perhaps unaware of the mens rights movement as I once was, it's easy to only see the extremes, and not the core of more logical, reasonable arguments. As the movement grows, I think this core will become more clear to the outside world, and that it will be harder to class mens rights as a "hate group" or whatever else ridiculous that it is now called.

In all honesty, MensRights/SRS won't be taken seriously until they can expunge the hate. No one can agree with hate and since people in both subreddits can freely hate on members of the opposite no progress will be made towards true gender equality. We're past a point where "we're" fighting "our" fight for equality and "they're" fighting "their" fight. We're all fighting each other's fight. We're all trying to be equal in a society that doesn't understand the meaning of the term.

Either we stand together, united, or we fuck it up for each other with this he said she said bullshit. It's not about men vs women. It's not about trying to be a masculine figure in a world that views masculinity as archaic. It's about being able to be who you are. It's about being able to be gay, straight, bi, man, woman, whatever. If you think that (wo)men should get special treatment, you're part of the problem.

It's probably because many people assume that Men's Rights is about a bunch of douchebags who feel entitled to all sorts of stuff, not the least of which is plenty of booty.

Not many people realise that there are a bit more complicated issues like false rape accusations, all men being pedophiles by default, parenting issues when parents are divorced and so on.

Serious comment here and not a troll - I see a lot of anger in this subreddit towards the "stranger danger" mentality that makes people fear that all men are pedos and should not be around kids. Yet... that thread with the 15 year old girl... it sure did not take long for a bunch of guys to start talking about having forced anal sex with her, abducting her, making her bleed and cry. They knew she was 15, and it wasn't even a porn subreddit but atheism!! Did you see how many upvotes the sexual comments had?? I feel like the anonymity of the internet and threads like that show that there are bad men out there who will hurt kids/girls. These guys just don't say it out loud in real life because its not anonymous. I'm all for gender equality, but based on what I've seen, not just what I've been told there are so many guys with pedophillic and mysoginistic urges that I'd be afraid to let any guy near my kids for fear that his "civil" behaviour is a veneer over some really nasty predatory desires. Honestly, I wish I knew how to resolve this. I'm preparing for downvotes, and honestly don't care, but some genuine insight would be much welcomed. The reason I bring this up is because I'm studying social services counseling so that I can help victims of child sexual abuse and this particular concern nags at me. I'd like to be as objective as I can on the subject.

I like /r/MensRights. I discovered this sub randomly - literally, by pressing the random sub button. It has opened my eyes to a lot of issues that men face like child support/custody, circumcision, a justice system that often seems quite biased against men in family court and sexual assault cases, etc. Lots of opinionated people here, which is fine, but there are also a lot of absolutists who make a big hooplah over relatively minor issues (e.g., why do men have to pay on the first date).

That said there is a small but sometimes loud minority in this community that bashes women. It might not seem as apparent to people who frequent this sub a lot, but a woman or feminist might see these instances through a filter that makes them seem like they occur more often than they do (a confirmation bias of sorts).
