I've only been "asked" to give up my seat once, and it ended badly.....for my asker.

I had gotten on the bus after a leg day at my University's gym. My quads ached and I was going to go back to my room and pass out. A guy and his girlfriend walk up to me, and the guy goes, "Hey there's a lady, get up". I reply, "Sorry man, maxed sumo squats, I can barely stand." The guy grabs me by the shirt and says, "Let me help you, asshole". Someone in the back screams, "LET GO OF HIM" The guy loosens his grip, sort of looks away, and I headbutt him as hard as I can in the temple. He drops to the ground, and the bus stops. The driver tells the couple that if they need medical attention, he'll call an ambulance, but otherwise they had to leave the bus. They get off, and the driver tells me, "Good thing it wasn't a neck day". Turns out the driver was a semi pro bodybuilder.

Strangely enough, I witnessed the exact opposite to this the other day.

I was sitting on a crowded bus when someone got off and left an open seat. Standing closest was a man in his sixties and quite overweight; he did not look comfortable at all while standing.

He asked the next person, a teenage girl, if she wanted the seat but she declined. He asked the woman behind her, and she declined. And then he asked the woman behind her, and got his third "Thanks, but I am ok."

He never asked the men standing nearby, and refused to see that he was the person who should have taken the seat in the first place. But I was very glad to see that none of the women took advantage of his old school chivalry.

It's so stupid when men are expected to give up their seat just because a girl walks in; it is a perfect example of male disposability. But that is assuming the woman is not elderly, disabled, or pregnant (same goes for a man). If they are any of those, then they should be offered a seat (but not just be the men on the bus, by anyone). The only time I've given up my seat to a woman of the same age and ability as me is when she was too short to comfortably hold the rails above her.

Just goes to show how far the MRM has to go when women still expect us to go to the back of the bus, and if we don't a thousand angry harpies and white knights will descend upon us, shouting, "that's not cool, brah".

Is your friend a 70-year old lady, pregnant, or carrying an infant?

Because she would kind of have a point in those cases, just as if she were an elderly man, disabled, etc.

This, like any act of "chivalry," is something that is commendable to do. However, this does certainly not mean every male has to give up his seat, pay for dinner, etc. at every opportunity.

Just like a woman cleaning up after a man, making him dinner, etc. is a very nice thing to do, but not something she is obligated to do.

once again this is actually my favorite day when some asshole women pulls this bullshit directed at me(though it is incredibly rare where i live). as everyone here i'm nice enough to let a disabled or otherwise impaired person have my seat if they look like they need it. the thing is i have a disability myself(well at least i count like i have some people get mad when you call it a disability). it's just not clear when you see me so i have a little card that says it for me. and more than once have i used my little card to not only laugh in their face a single time i have managed to take a seat from one such woman when she in the end guilty triped a young man to leave his seat. he seamed to think it was funny that she got exactly 2 minutes in the seat after 10 minutes of fighting for it.

UGHHHH I'm a girl and it annoys the FUCK out of me when women do this, making the rest of us look bad. I DO NOT expect a man to give up a seat for me, open a door for me, pull out my chair, pay for me, etc. That is chivalry and as far as i'm concerned, chivalry is sexist because it makes men do shit that women aren't expected to do. I just...ugh I can't even with these women, stop making other women who aren't assholes like you look bad.
