Female here, and I prefer to pay half the bill. And if he won't let me, I like to alternate. He pays one date, I pay the next. It gets super expensive and there is no reason that you should expect to be in a relationship (or on a date, which should be even more expected) and not cover at least half. Isn't a relationship about sharing responsibilities and lives? So much for feminism with this one. "We can open the door ourselves - but you better pay our bill."

Both the men and women in that article sound horrible. What kind of man expects his girlfriend to pay half of 5-star hotel bills if she doesn't make as much. You either spend less money on travel or pay for both.

The women who are complaining totally deserve these shallow men, though, because it's disgustingly obvious they're dating them for their money. If it was for love they wouldn't have all these ridiculous concerns about not being able to afford weekly beauty treatments anymore.

I can't believe any reporter would write this kind of article in a serious tone. Maybe it's satire? They do also claim men want their partners to look like Sarah Jessica Parker...

It's a whole cultural screwup. If people are dating for 'the right reasons' (to found a long lasting relationship and start a family etc) then money isn't a half/half thing.

It's a complete double standard - if you pay all you're a mysognyistic feminist crushing dinosaur bastard, if you only pay half you're cheap, and if you don't pay then you're worse... They cannot both have their cake and eat it.

This reads like the inverted version of another standard trope that's going around - "women are being too difficult and men are walking away".

There's no actual evidence in there apart from cherry picked anecdotes.

Everyone involved sounds dreadful; it seems that their only method of relating to their fellow human beings consists of spending lots of money.

Finally, I wasn't aware of any guy anywhere who wanted his partner to look like Sarah Jessica Parker.

My SO and I pay for things together, individually and half/half, depending on what we feel like or who has the cash at the time. We don't keep tabs.

When I was first dating and living with my parents, they always gave me extra money to cover my meal, just in case I felt pressured to have sex with someone I didn't want because he claimed that "I paid for your meal, you owe me". But it never happened.

Turns out, most people are generally nice.

I would just like to add, there are a lot of women out there that split the bill and aren't all trying to use their gender as a means to get free meals. My girlfriend and I have always split meal costs, except like on birthdays and special occasions.

Kind of upsetting that a large number still subscribe to that belief though, glad I never had to deal with someone like that.
